It has all come down to this one final episode on “American Idol” By the end of the night eight Grace Kinstler, Chayce Beckham, or Willie Spence will be crowned the newest Idol.

But first, a night of celebration and all star performances with Macklemore and Lewis getting the night of music started off and is joined by the finalists.

With the winner still up for the vote…the judges select a song for each of the finalists to perform.

First up is Grace Kinstler with “All By Myself” originally performed and written by Eric Carmen. Katy said that she picked the song for Grace because of its power and vulnerability. Luke called the performance amazing. Lionel said that Grace is a storyteller with a great voice.

The judges chose a Ray Charles song for Willie Spence with “Georgia on My Mind”. Willie told mentor Bobby Bones that he almost quit after his grandfather died. Willie noted that he had to do a soundcheck on the same day as the funeral. Willie brought the judges to their feet. Luke said that he can smell magnolia, Spanish moss, and peaches. Ryan and Luke are also from Georgia. Luke noted that Willie has delivered with every performance. Lionel said that Willie is a religious experience; adding that it was a great performance. Katy said that she needed her hankie; adding that the sky is the limit for Willie.

Closing out round one, Chayece Beckham sang The Beatles hit “Blackbird” and brought the judges to their feet. Lionel said that Chayce has an identifiable voice. Katy said that they chose the song because it is a small mighty song. Luke told Chayce that he has earned a bass fishing date.

Ryan Seacrest announces that the voting is very close.

In round two the singers make the home town heroes trip.

First up Idol travels back to Illinois and Grace’s home of Crystal Lake. For her hometown round performance Grace sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Katy noted that the voting is very close; telling fans that if they don’t vote then they can’t complain. Luke said that he wanted to stand on the desk. Lionel said that Grace has outdone herself and gave an amazing performance.
When Willie Spence went back home to Douglas, Georgia, he didn’t get just a day, he got a whole week dedicated to him. It was a very emotional reunion for Willie and his mom. He performed before a stadium filled with fans. For his hometown dedication song her performed the Sam Cooke song “A Change is Gonna Come”. Luke noted that they have heard the song on the show a few times before but never like that. Lionel noted that people look at Willie with pride and inspiration. A tearful Katy said that they are so proud of Willie; adding that it melted her heart to see Willie with his mom. Willie’s mom is in the audience. Katy gives a tearful Willie a tissue.

Chayce Beckham returns to Apple Valley for his hometown visit. The town planted an apple tree in Chayce’s honour. Chayce sang the Chris Stapleton song “Fire Away”. Lionel called the song a great choice for his voice. Katy noted that sometimes God has to turn up the volume to make sure you are listening…and Chayce is listening. Luke noted that it is a big deal to see the change since they first met him.

Idol alum Mickey Guyton returns with Alyssa Rae for a performance of “Black Like Me”.

In the first results of the night…

Willie Spence and Chayce Beckham will compete for the title of the next “Ameircan Idol”. Host Ryan Seacrest said that the vote is very close.

Graham Defranco returns to give Ryan a hand introducing Fall Out Boy with “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark”. Some of the finalists from the season join Fall Out Boy on stage.

Ten time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall Famer Chaka Khan takes the stage to perform a medley of her hits and gets a little help from some of the Idol singers.

For the first time this season, Ryan, Katy, Luke, and Lionel all had a group hug. The judges were not allowed to hug any of the singers this season due to Covid protocols.

UK “X Factor” winner Leona Lewis takes the stage with finalist Willie Spence for a performance of “You Are the Reason”.

Multi Grammy Award winning artist Sheryl Crow takes the stage with Graham Defranco for a performance of a medley of her songs.

After the judges eliminated him, the outrage nearly broke Twitter. Murphy returns to the Idol stage for a performance of a medley of his original music.

Judge Luke Bryan takes the stage with Casey Bishop for a performance on the stage at Whiskey-a-Go-Go and then on the Idol stage with the Bon Jovi hit “Livin’ on a Prayer”.

Judge Lionel Richie takes the stage with some of the finalists for a performance of his song “One World”.

Chayce Beckham takes the stage for a performance of Ed Sheeran’s “Afterglow”. Katy noted that there isn’t anything left to say; adding that he is living his dream. Luke noted that Chayce has a bright future. Lionel said congratulations and welcome to your career; adding that he has an amazing future.

Willie Spence returns for one final performance with “Stand Up” from “Harriet” by Cynthia Erivo. The judges were on their feet during the performance. Luke said that they love the voice and where it comes from…God and a soul within. Lionel said thank you; adding that his presence on the show has been a religious experience. Katy thanked Willie for blessing and saving them.

The 2021 “American Idol” is Chayce Beckham!!!!

Chayce performs his single “23” in his first performance as the newest Idol.

Last year, the world of entertainment was turned upside down with the breakout of the Covid-19 pandemic that locked down businesses all over the world including music, concerts, and television production.  Just as “American Idol” was preparing for the live shows, all in person productions were brought to a halt. 

Idol finished out the season by providing all of the finalists with lighting and cameras to stream their performances live with the judges commenting on the performances from their homes.

Since they missed out on any of the live shows last season, Idol has brought back some of those finalists to perform on the Idol stage.  Fans cast their votes for the singer they like the best with the winner moving on to fill out the top 10 for season four on ABC of “American Idol”.

Kicking of the Comeback Show performances is Cyniah Elise who sang “Edge of Midnight”.  Noting the plot twist, Katy loved the runs at the end; adding that Cyniah did a good job.  Luke said that it was fun to see Cyniah’s stage presence.  Lionel was happy to see Cyniah on the stage.

Next up was Nick Merico singing his original song “City Lights”.  Luke said that it showed who Nick wanted to be as an artist; adding that for him Nick didn’t knock it out of the park.  Lionel loved the dancing and how Nick commanded the stage.  Katy noted that Nick has taken the time to find his own personality on stage.

Aliana Jester sang the Lady Gaga song “I’ll Never Love Again”.  Lionel said that Aliana handled it with grace and poise.  Katy said that she didn’t recognize Aliana; adding it was like watching a Divas show.  Luke called the performance elegant and beautiful.

School of Rock teacher Franklin Boone rocked the house with “Meant to Live” by Switchfoot.  Katy noted that Franklin threw them a curve ball.  Luke noted that the big stage and lights are bringing out different things.  Lionel commended Franklin on taking a chance. 

Faith Becnel takes on Janis Joplin with “Cry Baby” – a song she sang last season but messed up and forgot some of the lyrics.  Luke noted that he was a fan of her; adding that it was a great song choice.  Lionel noted to all of the singers that coming back, they were all winners.  Katy noted that one of the biggest remarks from last season was a lack of balance; adding that what she saw tonight was balance.

Taking a break from the competition, Idol alum and Jazz legend Harry Connick Jr returns with a medley of songs from his album “Alone with My Faith” – an album he wrote and recorded during the lock down; performing every instrument including percussion, keyboards, tuba, and trumpet.

Last season runner up and Nepal native Arthur Gunn returns to perform the Goo Goo Dolls song “Iris”.  Lionel said that Arthur stuck the right chords with him; adding that his voice is immediately recognizable.  Katy loves that Arthur goes his own way; adding that he is authentic.  Luke said that in a room where everybody is overstated, Arthur can walk out and be recognized.  The song choice was a last minute decision for Arthur.

DeWayne Crocker Jr returned with a performance of “Voice of God”.  DeWayne said that faith is a big part of his life.  Katy said that DeWayne looked like an artist; adding that he connected with the audience.  Luke said that it was great seeing DeWayne again; adding it was a solid vocal and a great song choice.  Lionel said that DeWayne has clearly stepped into the light; adding that DeWayne had their attention from the beginning.

Last season’s judge’s save Makayla Phillips sang “Anyone” by Demi Lovato.   Luke called it a wonderful performance.  Lionel said that Makayla has a signature high end to her voice; adding they felt the performance.  Katy noted how Makayla kept building in the song.

Idol alum and award winning Christian singer Lauren Daigle returns to perform “Look Up Child”.

Olivia Ximines promises a dance break during her performance of “Say Yes”.  Lionel said that Olivia danced into their lives last year; adding that she has the ability to make everyone smile.  He called her performance amazing.  Katy called the performance the complete package; adding that she was meant for the stage.  Luke said that Olivia makes everyone feel comfortable in her world; adding that she has show business dialed in.

Closing out the night of comeback music is Louis Knight who as a songwriter, chose one of his own songs – “Maybe That” – for his comeback performance.  Katy said that Louis came out and bared his soul; adding that she felt the song.  Luke noted that Louis showed tremendous growth; adding it felt like a real show.  Lionel commended Louis on becoming a great songwriter.  Louis called the performance a dream come true.  Louis began writing the song during the auditions last year.

Idol fans have the rest of the week to cast their votes as to which one of the 10 comeback singers will join the season four top 10.

Idol returns on May 2 to reveal the top 10 who will sing songs from the Disney songbook.

Last week on “American Idol”, the top 24 contestants performed and in a special Monday night episode, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the top 12 singers.

On the Monday results show, Ryan Seacrest announced that Wyatt Pike left the show for what was later announced as personal reasons.

Former Idol judge Paula Abdul sat in for Luke Bryan after the Country music star tested positive for the Covid virus.

This week the top 12 will become nine in the first across the country simulcast with live voting. On Monday finalists from last season who never got to take the Idol stage due the the virus and lock down rules will take the stage with one of them joining the 2021 singers to fill out the top 10.

Gearing up for the annual Academy Awards presentation next week, the theme for tonight’s performances is songs from Oscar winning and nominated songs.

Idol judge Lionel Richie opens the show with a performance of his Oscar winning hit “Say You Say Me”.

After a week off for Covid, Luke Bryan returns to join fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

First up is Grace Kinstler for a performance of “Happy” by Pharrell. Katy said that Grace can sing the telephone book. Katy wondered what kind of record Grace would make and what kind of artist she is. Happy to be back, Luke liked the way Grace commanded the stage; adding that he loved hearing her voice. Lionel noted that Grace was in control; adding that she needs to pick songs that demonstrate who she is.

Ava August chose “City of Stars” from “La La Land”. Mentor Bobby Bones said that Ava is a singer far beyond her years. Bobby gave the 15 year old a driving lesson in the golf cart. Luke noted that Ava’s moments are amazing; adding her performance was incredible. Lionel said that Ava has managed to appear as if she been singing her whole life. Katy noted that she has socks older than Ava; adding that she wants her to BE 15.

Country boy Caleb Kennedy took on Willie Nelson with “On the Road Again”. Bobby took Caleb fishing and told him to channel the feeling while he was on the stage. Last week Caleb performed without his hat, this week the hat is back. Caleb had the house on their feet dancing…including the judges. Lionel called the performance fantastic; adding that they couldn’t wait to get back on the road again. Lionel said that if Caleb keeps it up, he will be on the road for a long time. Katy said that Caleb sounded great; adding it was so cool when Caleb invited them to join in. Luke noted that Caleb didn’t over sing; adding it was his best performance. Luke said that Caleb chose a great song.
Hunter Metts performs “Falling Slowly” from “Lost”. After some rousing applause, Katy said that it was his best performance ever. Hunter was very emotional after his performance. Katy called it an incredible song choice and connected with them. Luke said that it was intense for him watching; adding that Hunter took him on a crazy ride of emotions. Luke said that Hunter’s falsettos were some of the best he has heard on the show. Lionel related a time he forgot the lyrics and the audience took over. Hunter thought he messed up, but all of the judges and Ryan said that he did not mess up, he was emotional and perfect.

Madison Watkins takes on Whitney Houston with “Run to You” from “The Bodyguard”. Luke said that Madison always gives solid performances. Lionel said that she knocked it out of the park. Katy called it an A level performance; adding that Madison played the favourites.

Chayce Beckham chose the Bryan Adams song “Everything I Do (I Do for You)” from “Robin Hood Prince of Thieves”. Lionel said that Chayce found himself in the second half of the song. Katy noted that there are a lot of young ladies thinking the song was just for them. Luke was so inspired by Chayce’s growth since the auditions; adding that he thinks Chayce is the front runner.

Judges save Beane performs “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from “Dirty Dancing”. Beane put his own spin on the song and opened with the guitar and sitting on a stool before getting up to dance around the stage as he sang. Katy noted that she saw another side of Beane; adding the performance was cool. Katy said that Beane is ready for the stage.

Alyssa Wray chose “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman”. Lionel called Alyssa a subtle force; adding that when the guns go off, they know it will be amazing.
Ryan announced that the nine remaining singers will go to Disney World in Florida after the show.

Deshawn Goncalves took on the iconic Barbra Streisand with “The Way We Were” from the film “The Way We Were”. Luke called the performance beautiful, classic, and classy; adding that he was caught up in the moment. When Luke couldn’t find the words, Katy mentioned Luther Vandross.

Casey Bishop performed the classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” made famous by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz”. Katy noted that Casey can do anything she wants; adding that Casey is the front runner. Luke said that Casey came out and gave another side of herself. Lionel said that it is one of his favourite songs. Lionel wonders what the DNA is made of from the 16 year old; adding that going from rock to Judy Garland is incredible.

Cassandra Coleman performed the Sam Smith song “Writing’s on the Wall” from the James Bond film “Spectre”. Luke said it was some of the most amazing stuff he has heard on the show. Lionel said that Cassandra brings them in. Katy told Cassandra that she isn’t what the world thinks of her but what she thinks of her.

The final performance of the night was from Willie Spence with a gospel inspired song from “Harriet” with “Stand Up” performed by Cynthia Erivo. Cynthia sent him a video message of thanks and encouragement. Standing, Lionel had a few words for Willie, “Amen, religious experiece, and you delivered the goods”. Katy called the performance powerful. Luke said that Willie taught him to never use the word front runner until the whole show is done.

After the nationwide voting, Ryan revealed the nine singers who would be moving on to the top 10…

Ava, Madison, and Beane have been eliminated from the competition.

On Monday, the comeback show where singers from last season will compete for the final spot in the top 10.

On Sunday’s episode of “American Idol”, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the top eight singers from the top 12 that performed last week. Each of the top 16 performed once again for fan votes.

On the Monday episode, Ryan will reveal the top 10 vote getters; plus two more singers chosen by judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

On Monday morning, Luke Bryan announced that he has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Luke is at home and sitting in for him is Idol alum Paula Abdul.

Paula compared the top 16 to the Grammy’s Best New Artist.

With no further explanation, Ryan announced that Wyatt Pike has withdrawn for the competition.

Ryan reveals the top 10 singers in no particular order.

The first singer in the top 10 is Casey Bishop who performs “House of the Rising Sun”.

Colin Jamieson is in the danger zone and will have to sing for his life in hopes of earning one of the two judges choices. He sang “Waves”. Lionel said that Colin did exactly what he was supposed to do. Katy noted that Colin has grown so much; adding that all of his performances are like a celebration. Paula said that she enjoyed watching Colin because of his passion; adding that he made her smile.

Ryan revealed that the difference between votes with some of the singers was less than 900 votes.

Next up to learn their results was Deshawn Gonclves who has made it into the top 10. Donning a gold jacket, Deshawn took on the great Stevie Wonder with “Higher Ground”. He had Paula out of her seat dancing. It wasn’t long before Katy and Lionel were out of their seats too.

Cassandra Coleman is also in the top 10. She sang “Light On” by Maggie Rogers.

Caleb Kennedy is the next person to learn his fate. Normally seen wearing a hat, Ryan didn’t recognize him at first. Caleb chose an original song after learning that is in the top 10. The song “Nowhere” is one Caleb had started before his audition and has recently finished. Lionel said that Caleb has become a great songwriter. Paula called Caleb extremely talented.

Long time Idol alum Randy Jackson Facetimed Ryan on his ipad. He called all of the judges amazing.

Next week, Idol will broadcast live across the country with real time voting.

Madison Watkins is in danger and will have to sing for her life with “Hotline Bling” by Drake. Lionel said that it was very clear to him that she was singing for her career and put it all out on the floor. Katy noted that Madison came out and brought the light. Paula called Madison extraordinary; adding that her voice is like an old friend.

Next up is Ava August who is moving on to the top 10. The youngest singer in the competition at 15, she chose the Queen song “Love of My Life”. Lionel said that Ava makes him forget that she is 15; adding she sings like a long time pro. He said that she owned the song. Paula said that Ava leaves her speechless; adding that she reaches notes that don’t exist.

Luke sent a text message saying that he misses them and being sick stinks.

In the next results, Beane learns that he is in the danger zone. He sang “Grow as We Go” in hopes of earning one of the judges spots in the top 12. After bringing the judges to their feet, Lionel noted that Beane has grown into his artistry; adding that Beane gave a stellar performance. Saying there is only one Beane, Katy said that she is a card carrying “Beanie Baby”. Paula also admitted that she is a Beane fan; adding that he shines like a spotlight.

Chayce Beckham has earned a spot into the top 10. Singing his audition song; Chayce performed “What Brings Life Also Kills”. Katy said that Luke texted her saying, “dang I’m still not that cool”.

Ryan announced that in a two night event, the top 12 become nine and then on Monday 10 of the finalists from last season will return to perform live on the stage after having to perform from their homes last season and fans will vote one of them to join the lineup for this season to fill out the top 10.

Alyssa Wray is the next singer to learn her fate and will join the top 10. She chose to sing the Michael Masser and Linda Creed song “The Greatest Love of All” originally made a hit by George Benson. Alyssa chose to sing the Whitney Housston version of the song. Alyssas got a message from her idol Jennifer Hudson. Paula said that Alyssa looked like a pro. She advised Alyssa to pick songs that let her shine.

Next up was Alanis Sophia is not in the top 10 and will have to sing for her life with “Heart Attack” by Demi Lovato. Lionel wondered how Alanis could hear that news and then give such a performance. He told her not to judge herself or think while she is performing. Katy said that she uses her rejections to fuel her fire. An impressed Paula agreed with Lionel of don’t think, just sing; adding to give it her all.

And then there were four…

Willie Spence blew the house away with his performance on Sunday night and earned his way into the top 10. Willie’s choir room performance of “Diamonds” by Rihanna went viral back in 2017; tonight he performs it live for the first time. Willie had his fellow contestants and the judges on their feet during hs performance. Katy called Willie brilliant; adding that he has an old soul vibe.

Only Grace, Hunter, and Graham remain…

Grace Kinstler is moving on to the top 10. She chose to sing “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande. Lionel said that Grace has an amazing attitude on stage; adding that it was an oh my god performance.

It’s down to Hunter and Graham…two great friends.

Hunter Metts is the final singer in the top 10 and sang the Bonnie Raitt song “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Paula noted that Hunter’s vocals are very distinct; adding that she is a big fan. She noted that the whole night has been incredible.


In the final performance of the night, Graham Defranco sings for his life with “Cover Me Up” by Jason Isbell. Lionel asked Graham if he understood what he has done; adding that he is punching his way to the future. Katy said that she thinks Graham got very close; adding that she thinks he has finally taken flight. Paula called Graham’s voice so comforting; adding that it was like butter…so smooth.

After the judges deliberation…

Lionel announced that after a tough evening that Madison Watkins is moving on to join the top 10.

The final spot in the top 12 is….
Saying that based on tonight’s performance, Katy announced in a unanimous decision Beane is in the top 12.

Colin Jamieson, Alanis Sophia, and Graham Defranco has been eliminated from the competition.

The top 24 artists have performed their solos and celebrity duets on “American Idol”. And now it is up to the fans to cast their votes and choose the top 16. One third of the singers will be sent home by the end of the show.

The top 24 performed over two nights. Host Ryan Seacrest will be announcing the top eight vote getters from each night.

The first singer moving on to the top 16 is Alyssa Wray who performs the Roberta Flack hit “Killing Me Softly with His Song”. Katy said that the performance was totally a vibe; adding that she was an actual artist. Agreeing with Katy, Luke called it a great song choice. Lionel noted that it was down ot confidence; adding that it was a stellar performance.

The next singer moving into the top 16 is survey pilot Graham Defranco who performed the Frank Sinatra song “That’s Life”. Luke noted that Graham is the guy who can’t believe he is here; adding that Graham has a timeless voice. Lionel noted that the crowd feeds off of Graham having fun. Katy said that Graham picked the best song for his voice; adding that he has an incredible voice.

The next singer moving on to the next round is Grace Kinstler who sang “Elastic Heart” by Sia. Standing, Lionel called Grace a force to be reckoned with; adding that she draws them into her performances. Katy noted that Grace can sing everything. Luke said that Grace has an amazing voice.

Ryan Seacrest named Alonis Sophia who chose to perform “The Story by Brandi Carlile. Katy thought it was a great song choice for her voice. Luke noted that it was a rangy song. Lionel wanted to know if they witnessed an explosion; adding that Alonis needs to learn how to work the stage.

The next singer into the top 16 is Willie Spence who sang “The Prayer” with Katherine McPhee for his duet last week. This week, Willie chose to sing the Adele song “Set Fire to the Rain”. Luke said that the coolest thing Willie did was suck them in. Lionel stood and said that God took control; adding that tit was close to a Donnie Hathaway, Luther Vandross moment and brilliant! Katy said that Willie was possessed in a Godly way.

Next in the top 16 is Deshawn Goncalves who took on the iconic “Feeling Good” and began the song A Cappella before playing the piano. He brought the judges to their feet with his performance. Lionel noted that the hardest thing for a singer is to open with a cold start; adding that he owned the piano as well. Katy said that Deshawn went to the next level with his performance. Luke said that Deshawn put it all together. Ryan asked if the 16 year old had any butterflies with that cold start. Deshawn said absolutely.

The next singer in the top 16 is street singer Wyatt Pike who sang the Kings of Leon song “Use Somebody”. Katy noted that Wyatt looked so nervous; adding that he is an authentic singer songwriter. Luke said that Wyatt is going to be able to do music for the rest of his life. Lionel noted that Wyatt has a style on stage that makes them want to watch; adding that Wyatt made the song his own. Katy wants to hear Wyatt sing something to make them cry. Wyatt said that he would like to do that.

The final singer from the top 12 on last Sunday night is Cassandra Coleman. She chose to sing the Chris Isaak hit “Wicked Game”. Luke said that her verses were incredible but needs to soar more on the choruses. Lionel noted that the key word is confidence; adding don’t concentrate, just sing. Katy said that she would love to see what would happen on a tour.

Alana, Cecil, Andrea, and Anilee have all been eliminated from the competition.

The first singer from the top 12 on Monday night’s performances is Caleb Kennedy. The 16 year old Country singer chose the Chris Stapleton song “Midnight Train to Memphis”. Lionel said that he is convinced Caleb has ice water in his veins; adding he gave a great performance. Katy noted that Caleb has a grit and is becoming an outlaw. Luke noted that Caleb has a course he wants to follow and is doing a great job.

Next up is rocker Colin Jamieson who chose to perform the Tears for Fears hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. Colin had the audience clapping and dancing along. Katy said that Colin is an incredible vocalist. Luke noted that Colin was working the camera; adding that he “sang his butt off”. Lionel noted that it is called show business; adding that Colin was having fun on stage.

The next singer moving into the top 16 is Casey Bishop who sang the Soundgarden song “Black Hole Sun”. Luke noted that Casey can sing anything; adding her performance was impressive. Lionel said that it is fascinating to watch Casey; asking where is the extra pair of lungs. Katy called it the best performance from Casey so far.

Continuing to build the top 16, Madison Watkins is the next to perform. She chose “Gravity” by Sarah Bareilles. Lionel said that Madison gave a perfect presentation. Katy was surprised; saying that she was locked from the first few notes; adding it was her best performance. Luke said that Madison gave a flawless vocal performance.

Bean is lucky number 13 in the list of 16 singers. Beane chose to perform “Searching for a Feeling”. Katy said that Beane showed another side of himself. Luke noted that he thinks America wants to be entertained and Bean gave that to them. Lionel said that watching Beane perform is inviting.

The next singer moving to the top 16 is Hunter Metts performed “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver. Luke said that Hunter really dug in; adding no one sounds like Hunter. Lionel agreed with Luke. Katy said that Hunter gave them growl which was impressive.

Next into the top 16 is 15 year old Ava August who sang “2002” by Ann Marie. Lionel said that he is going to declare Ava 15 and dangerous. Katy reminded Ava that classic always turmps cool…and Ava is classic. Luke told Ava not to forget the classic and grace.

The final singer in the top 16 is Chayce Beckham who chose to sing “Waiting in Vain” by Bob Marley and Wailers. Chayce sat on a stool and played his guitar as he sang the classic raggae song. Katy said that Chayce checks all the boxes. Luke said that the count off was the coolest thing; adding he can deliver. Lionel said that if you can identify with real, then America will fall in love…and they did.

Jason, Mary Jo, Llahona, and Hannah have all been eliminated from the competition.

On Monday’s results show the top 12 will be revealed – 10 by fan vote and two selected by the judges.

On the Sunday episode of “American Idol”, 12 of the top 24 singers took to the stage for a solo performance and a duet with an all star artist.

Tonight, the remaining 12 will take the stage for their turn to perform; first a solo and an all star duet before a live audience.

The top eight vote getters from each night will be revealed next Sunday for the 16 singers remaining of the hundreds who came for the auditions.

The judges can express their opinions, but now it is all up to the fans.

First up is Jason Warrior with “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd and brought the judges to their feet.  Jason joins PJ Morton for a performance of “How Deep is Your Love” by The Bee Gees that again brought the judges to their feet.  Katy called it the best solo and duet performance she has heard so far.  Luke called it good old fashioned entertainment.  Lionel said that it doesn’t get any better than what Jason just did.  Host Ryan Seacrest said what a way to start the show.

Madison Watkins performed “Holy” before joining Idol alum Tori Kelly for a performance of the Stevie Wonder song “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing”.  Luke called Madison a natural entertainer; adding that she really showcased her voice.  Lionel noted how Madison reacted to Tori, not just sang the words.  Katy called the performance a show of vocal Olympics.

Beane takes the stage for a performance of “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa.  Beane shared the stage with international star Josh Groban for a performance of “Angels” by Robbie Williams.  The performance had the house on their feet and Lionel yelling yes.  Lionel said that they noticed exactly what he was doing.  Katy said that Beane has incredible artistic vision; adding that she would sign him.  Luke noted that Beane is growing in every round of the show.

Hannah Everhart sang “ I Was Wrong” by Chris Stapleton before taking the stage with award winning Country music star Jason Aldean for a performance of “She’s Country”.  The duo had Katy up dancing and Luke singing along.  Katy appreciated the risks Hannah took in her solo.  Luke said that it was fun watching Hannah grow.  Lionel agreed with his fellow judges; adding that she held her own with Jason Aldean.

Mary Jo Young sang the Ed Sheeran song “Castle on the Hill” before taking the stage with platinum selling artist Jewel for a performance of “Foolish Games”.  Luke said that he was proud of Mary Jo.  Lionel said that Mary Jo represented her generation.  Katy said that Mary Jo is legitimately becoming an artist before their eyes.

Next up is Chayce Beckham with “Afterglow” by Ed Sheeran.  For his duet, Chayce joins Incubus front man Brandon Boyd for “Drive” by Incubus.  Chayce is the first contestant that plays an instrument – guitar – on his duet.  Lionel said that Chayce has a magical voice; adding that Chayce needs to engage the audience.  Katy called Chayce a bona fide musical artist.  Luke noted that Chayce is just naturally cool.

Colin Jamieson sang the Bruno Mars song “Locked Out of Heaven” before taking the stage with Tori Kelly for a performance of “Hollow”.  Katy said that Colin looked like he performs 300 shows a year.  Luke called Colin infectious with his having fun.  Lionel said that Colin has the secret, performing like he is in his living room and they just stopped by.  Ryan said that Colin is seamless.

Llahona Olayan sang “Just Friends” before taking the stage with PJ Morton for a performance of Morton’s song “Say So” and brought the judges to their feet.  Luke said that Llahona is radio ready.  Lionel said that she has come so far since the first time they saw her.  Katy agreed that Llahona is radio ready.

The youngest singer remaining in the competition, Ava August performs “drivers license”.  The 15 year old performed the Joni Mitchell classic “Both Sides Now” with Josh Groban.  Lionel said that Ava is singing far past her age.  Katy called Ava an old soul.  Luke said that watching Ava and Josh Groban was like watching Judy Garland.

Caleb Kennedy chose The Allman Brothers classic “Midnight Rider” for his solo performance.  The 16 year old joined up with Jason Aldean for a duet performance of “Fly Over States”.   The 16 year old revealed that the song came out when he was in kindergarten.  Katy said that Caleb is authentically himself.  Luke thought that “Midnight Rider” showcased him better.  Lionel said that Caleb has been possessed by an old country man; adding that he has so much promise in his future.

Hunter Metts sang “Chandelier” by Sia before he joined Jewel for a performance of “Who Will Save Your Soul”; a song Jewel said that she wrote when she was 16.  Luke said that the beauty of Hunter is that he has an undeniable voice.  Lionel agreed with Luke; adding that Hunter has everything he needs to be a super star.  Katy fells that Hunter is judging himself against others; adding he has a voice of his own.

The final performance of the top 24 is Casey Bishop with “Decode” by Paramore.  Brandon Boyd returns to perform another song from the Incubus songbook “Wish You Were Here”.  Lionel wondered what America was going to do with all the talent this year; adding that Casey owned the stage.  Katy told Casey to grasp it.  Saying that Casey needs to listen to Katy, Luke noted that Casey is a 16 year old girl trying to bring rock back.

It’s the final night of auditions on “American Idol”. And on the biggest night in music with the annual Grammy Awards the final group of singers are loooking for that golden ticket and a trip to Hollywood.

Madison Watkins gets the night of auditions started off with an original song abut her dad while he sands outside the room with his ear to the door. Lionel loves the timbre of her voice. Luke called Madison the whole package. Katy called Madison the fresh off the bus Brittney Spears; adding that she is what they are looking for on Idol. Madison got her golden ticket to Hollywood with three yeses.

Some of the singing hopefuls were also big Katy Perry fans and bit more than star struck when they came into the audition room.

Liv Grace Blue brought her guitar for her audition. A big Katy Perry fan, she sang one of Katy’s songs.

Ava August is a singer songwriter and played the piano for her audition.

Both girls got their tickets to Hollywood.

Jackson State University tuba player Deshaun Gonclaves sang “Everything Must Change” while playing the piano for his audition. Lionel called the performance powerful; adding that God saw fit to put him in front of them. Katy called the performance magical. Luke called Deshaun wonderful. He got three yeses and his ticket to Hollywood.

In a series of clips, Alana and Cameron, sports players and singers got their tickets to Hollywood. The only member of the family not to play in a sports family, Tryzdin Grubbs had Luke concerned about the confidence. Lionel said that there was something there but needed some more confidence. Luke wanted to hear another song. Tryzdin brought the judges to their feet with the song. Luke’s only advice was to get some confidence. Tryzdin got his ticket to Hollywood with three yeses.

Andrea Valles sang “Landslide” for her audition while playing the guitar and had the judges saying very good. While Katy liked her voice, she wasn’t sure. Luke called her an unpolished diamond. Katy started talking and Andrea launched into another song. Lionel said that she needs to create magic in front of them. With a reluctant yes from Katy, Andrea got her ticket to Hollywood.

Registered nurse Kiko had to bring in a little help on guitar – his brother Francisco Martin who auditioned last year. Kiko performed a song by another Idol alum, Alejandro. Katy called the performance interesting; adding that he needs a little work. Lionel gave Kiko a yes but Luke agreed that Kiko had some work to do.

Making a return to Idol, Zachary D’Onofrio sang “Golden Slumbers” for his auditon while playing the piano. Katy said that Zach was like a math equation on the board. Katy wanted to hear more so Zach brought in his girlfriend to help – Catie Turner, another Idol alum. Katy said that Zach was with the right Catie. Luke said that Zach needs to pour on the gas. Katy noted that Zach reminds her of a turtle. Lionel said that ach needs to come out of his shell. Katy was a yes with a ? mark and the guys made it unanimous. Zach is going to Hollywood.

Helen Blondel sang a duet with her sock puppet. She was just one of some no clips.

Brianna’s sister posted a Tik Tok video of her that went viral. On the night before her audition Brianna ended up in the hospital due to her Cystic Fibrosis. Fortunately, the audition was rescheduled and she impressed the judges with her audition of a Pink song. Lionel loved the texture of her voice. Luke noted that there were a few things he would like to work on with her; adding that she knocked it out of the park. Brianna got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood.

Friends Danny Falco and Colin Jamieson are best friends and former boy band mates. Katy said that the performance felt a little put on. Luke noted that Danny has a good singing voice but isn’t using it properly. Lionel agreed that Danny has a great voice; adding that Idol doesn’t seem to be his destination. Danny got three nos from the judges. Luke said that Colin has a great voice but was concerned about all the breathes. Lionel said that there was something in Colin’s voice. Colin got yeses from all three of the judges and a ticket to Hollywood.

Vahhley chose a Whitney Houston song for her audition and brought Katy to her feet. Luke said that her singing is really good. She brought her toddler son into the room and he was running all over the place. Katy told Vahhley to believe in herself and gave her a yes. Luke and Lionel made it unanimous and Vahhley got her ticket to Hollywood.

Steven Paul chose a Brooks and Dunn song for his audition and had Luke joining in. Lionel called it something really special. Steven got a no from the judges because they felt he was a bit of an imitation.

Busker and songwriter Wyatt Pike sang an original song for his audition. Wyatt even brought his busking suitcase to the audition. Luke said that Wyatt was a twin of his high school bass player; adding that Wyatt is totally unique. Katy said that nerves got to Wyatt. Lionel called Wyatt a fabulous storyteller. Wyatt got yeses from all three of the judges. Luke put the golden ticket in Wyatt’s suitcase.

Jackson Snelling used to watch Idol when he was a child and now is auditioning for the show with an original song. Katy said that Jackson has a good voice; adding that he needs some experience. She said that there is something special in there. Lionel was impressed with Jackson; adding that he agrees with Katy that Jackson needs more experience. Lionel told Jackson to work a little more and come back.

In the final Idol audition for 2021, Althea Grace chose an original song for her audition. Luke loved the tone of Althea’s voice; adding that she has some Stevie Nicks qualities to her voice. Lionel said that Althea has something in her voice but needs to work on the confidence. Katy said that Althea needs to work on the fire. Althea got yeses from all three of the judges and her ticket to Hollywood.

Next week Hollywood Week begins…filled with challenges and curveballs.

The third week of “American Idol” brings more silliness from the judges and singers hoping to earn their golden tickets to Hollywood.

Gabby Barrett fan Laila Mach plays the piano and sings an original song for her audition. Lionel said that Laila had him fooled; givinger her songwriting props. Katy said that Laila is what it takes to be on the show. Luke agrees with his fellow judges; adding that he is impressed. Laila got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood.

Lead singer in the Army National Guard band Re’h took on Disco Queen Donna Summer with her performance of “Bad Girls”. She didn’t just sing the song, she performed it! The judges stood and saluted her. Katy said that Re’h has a real good shot. She got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Michael Gerow performed an original song for audition. The audition was filmed on the day the Georgia Bulldogs played the Alabama Crimson Tide so there was much rivalry going on between Luke and Katy. Lionel loved Michael’s voice. Katy called him an exceptional singer; adding that she though he was top 10 material. Luke just said yes. Michael got his ticket to Hollywood.

High school cheerleader from Alabama Cameron McGhar sang the Little Big Town hit “Girl Crush” for her audition. Luke stopped Cameron saying that she has a big voice but it didn’t look comfortable. Katy said that it wasn’t believable. She got another chance and chose a Loretta Lynn song. Katy kept saying attitude. Katy noted that they had to pull it out of her. Lionel said that Cameron had an infectious personality but doesn’t think she is ready. Katy noted that there is a lack of experience; adding that Cameron isn’t ready. Katy said that she would roll the dice and gave Cameron a yes. With Cameron begging, Luke finally agreed with Katy and gave a yes…and her ticket to Hollywood.

Bean (Brandon) chose “Wait for the Moment” for his audition. Luke and Lionel had big smiles on their faces during the performance. Katy called the performance fun. Lionel said that it was like Bean was very familiar but wasn’t sure it was right for Idol. Katy said that there was something special about Bean. The wedding singer got three yeses and his ticket to Hollywood.

Anthony Key chose the BTS hit “Dynomite” for his audition and danced as he sang. Katy wanted Anthony to teach them a few of his dance moves. Katy called the audition fun; adding that she wasn’t really sure who he was. Luke noted that the strength of the vocals weren’t really what it should be. Lionel noted that there is a place for Anthony in the entertainment business but Idol wasn’t it. He got nos from the judges.

Ash brought he guitar to perform an original song for her audition. She wrote the song for her Dad but he has never heard the song, so the judges brought him in to hear the song. Luke said that Dad has raised a very talented lady; adding that she has a nice vibrato. Lionel said that she found the one thing that never goes out of style…love. Katy gave Ash a yes; Luke and Lionel agreed for three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Cheryl K is a big Lionel Richie fan and sang “Endless Love” with him. She brought the 45 of the song…and her dog to the audition. Lionel said that Cheryl brought tears to his life. He noted that it takes a lot of guts to sing with one of them; adding that she is going to be competing with some really big voices and isn’t sure she cabn compete with them. He said that she has it but not the control. Katy agreed with Lionel. Luke noted that she has a great voice and spirit but needs to learn more.

Heather Russell is a big Katy Perry fan and chose one of her songs to sing for the audition while playing the piano. Luke reminded her to look at them and watch the tricks; adding that Heather is one of the better singers they have heard this year. Noting that Heather has total control, Lionel agreed with Luke. Katy said that it was way too much; adding that she has the best voice and needs to learn how to use it. Heather got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood. Katy said that Heather has a great voice but doesn’t know how to use it.

Caleb Kennedy brought his guitar for an original song at his audition. Katy wanted him to finish the song because it would take him somewhere. Luke said that Caleb’s voice goes beyond just being a 16 year old kid. Lionel said that Caleb has mastered the storyteller’s voice. Caleb got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Abby Lebaron played the piano on her audition. Katy said that Abby has the talent but needs to work on believing herself. Luke said that when Abby started he had chill bumps. Abby got her ticket to Hollywood.

Professional busker Murphy chose “Just the Two of Us” for his audition. Katy said that Murphy is on the edge but not quite there. Lionel wants to see more of Murphy. He asked for another song and he chose an original song this time. Lionel said that he couldn’t help but watch Murphy’s face. Luke said that he would give Murphy a shot. Saying that it was a bit too novelty, Katy gave him a no. Saying that they don’t have anything like him, Lionel gave a yes and Murphy got his ticket to Hollywood.

For the final audition of the night, small town Kentucky native Alyssa Wray grew up watching Idol. She chose “I Am Changing” for her audition and brought the judges to their feet. Lionel kept saying that he was so happy. Luke noted that the most challenging thing in show business is presence. Katy noted that Alyssa must have grown up having dreams; adding the world is open to whatever she can dream. Lionel asked how lucky were they to say that they knew her when… Alyssa got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood.

Next week the auditions come to a conclusion.

“American Idol” returns for a second week of auditions.

The night begins with a beautiful rendition of “Golden Slumbers” that had the judges saying all together that she was going to Hollywood. The show didn’t show the girl’s name.

Siblings Llahona and Ammon Olayan performed an original song. The two hail from Hawaii and are the oldest of eight children. Lionel liked what they did. Luke said that they complimented each other. Katy called them incredible songwriters and talented beyond belief. They both got three yeses from the judges.

Dressed as Thor, Anthony Guzman sang “Cry Me a River” and threw the judges curve. Lionel said that Anthony can seriously sing, so now it is time for Anthony to take himself serious. With a no vote from Luke, Anthony got his ticket to Hollywood.

Country girl Hannah Everhart sang “Wayfaring Stranger” for her audition. Luke stopped her and told her not to keep checking out the judges’ reactions. After saying that she had originally planned to sing “At Last”, Katy asked to hear her sing it. Luke said that Hannah is very close to being an amazing singer; adding that he is going to push her to be her best. Katy said that Hannah is no longer allowed to play it safe. Lionel said that Hannah is sitting on a gold mine, but needs to bring it. Hannah got her ticket to Hollywood.

Mississippi Delta native Calvin Upshaw is looking to turn his life around and provide for his family…and it begins with his audition. Lionel noted that the crack in Calvin’s voice was an emotional one. He broke down during the audition. Katy told him it was a new day. Calvin got three yeses and his ticket to Hollywood.

Luke and Lionel go golf cart racing in Ohai, California. Luke won the race.

Florida native Casey Bishop chose to sing a Motley Crue song a cappella for her audition. The judges noted that it was a first on the show. Katy wanted to hear some Ella Fitzgerald but Casey sang a Sarah Vaughan song instead. Lionel said that he would love for Casey to appreciate rock but sing like she just did. Luke has Casey in the top 10 already; adding that he thinks she is the winner. Katy said that Casey is really really good. Casey has never performed live before. Casey got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Cuban native Yurisbel calls Miami home and is looking to be the next big Latin music star like Pitbull, whose song he chose for his audition. Katy called him the Latin Luke. Lionel called it the best workout – they were dancing along. Katy called it fun and Luke said that it was awesome. Lionel called it so much fun. Katy siad that he would stir up the competition. Saying she wanted to say yes but said no, Luke and Lionel gave Yurisbel his ticket to Hollywood. Katy said that he sounded like a Cuban Cookie Monster.

Chayce Beckham had Luke clapping even before the song was over. Chayce performs with a reggae band. Lionel said that he loved what Chayce did and knew it was real. Luke said that Chayce is what the show is all about; adding Chayce had him with the first note. Katy called Chayce a top five. Chayce got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Ace Stiles gave performed an original song for her audition. Now 16, Ace decided at 14 that he was a boy. Katy said that Ace was doing great and would get better and better. Luke was concerned about the quietness of Ace’s voice; adding that he isn’t quite ready for Idol. Katy said that Ace has an interesting voice and worth investigating. Lionel gave Ace a yes but Katy and Luke said no.

Cassandra Coleman performs online and has never performed live before an audience. Luke and Katy loved the performance. Lionel said that the performance was about as angelic as it was going to get. Luke said that he got caught up in the moment. Asked if she was a musician, Lionel wanted to hear Cassandra on the piano. Luke said that Cassandra is her own voice with no one like her. She got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

In the final audition of the night, Georgia native Willie Spence is hoping to turn his passion for singing into something more. He sang the Rhianna song “Diamonds” for his audition and brought Lionel to his feet yelling yes yes yes. Luke called him a special individual; adding that he didn’t want it to end. Lionel kept saying unbelievable. Lionel said that Willie is what they have been looking for; adding that he had chills on the first note. Willie got his ticket to Hollywood.

The global pandemic rages on and live music performances are still on hold; but the competition reality series “American Idol” returns for another season with Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Backflipping Benson Boone gets the auditions started off singing and playing the piano. He impressed the judges with his performance; bringing Lionel and Luke to their feet. Katy said that she sees Benson winning Idol. He got his golden ticket to Hollywood.

Country boy Alex Miller brought his guitar to perform an original song for his audition. The 17 year old thrilled Luke and Lionel. Luke came out and sang with Alex. Lionel called the performance something special. Alex got his ticket to Hollywood.

Jason Warrior took on the legendary Marvin Gaye for his audition and brought the judges to their feet dancing. Lionel said that very few people could turn a Marvin Gaye song into their own; adding that it was phenomenal and one of the strongest performances he had heard. Katy called the performance magnificent. Jason got his ticket to Hollywood.

After some no clips, Ryan Romano took on Sir Elton John’s “Rocket Man” for his audition playing his portable keyboard impressed the judges with his showmanship but felt he lacked the vocals. Katy loved Ryan’s coat and offered him $400 for the coat.

Anilee List has been performing most of her life. Luke Kept saying amazing after her performance. The judges called the audition flawless. Anilee got her ticket to Hollywood. Lionel said that he can’t wait to see where it goes.

Danaica Steakley brought her Dad to accompany her on her audition. Katy called Danica talented but noted she could hear that she was 17 and a bit timid. Lionel was impressed with the high end, saying that Danica doesn’t know her voice yet. Luke said that she has all the makings to be a great singer, but needs to get out there and gig. Danica didn’t get her ticket to Hollywood after getting no’s from the guys. Her Dad was angry at the judge’s remarks.

Several singers brought their Dad’s to help out with the auditions.

DJ Johnson comes from a large musical family; she played the piano and sang an original song for her audition. She got very emotional during the song and Lionel offered her his handkerchief and told her to take her time. Luke asked if she wanted her Dad and they brought him in for some support. The judges noted that they wanted to give her a hug bug couldn’t. Katy and Lionel also got emotional during the performance. Lionel said that the message in the song was a hit record and the delivery was honest. Luke noted wondered how she got through the song; adding that she is very talented. Katy noted that some of the greatest artists have gotten that way because of the pain in their life. JD got her ticket to Hollywood with three yeses.

Dressed in black and white, Katy pretened to be a cow and Luke was cow tipping her.

Nia Renee had the judges attention from her first note with her performance of “Chain of Fools”. Luke said that Nia was born to do it. Katy said that Nia has a power in her voice. Nia got her ticket to Hollywood. Lionel said that they have never had anything like that.

After more clips of no performances, Claudia Conway – the daughter of Kelly Ann and George Conway – performed the Rhianna song “Love on the Brain” for her audition but got stopped by Katy, noting that she lost it. Katy gave her another chance to sing a different song. Luke noted that Claudia is singing like she is 16; adding that it was great. Lionel noted that Claudia showed that she can take coaching. Claudia got her ticket to Hollywood despite a no from Luke.

Bobby Bones returns as the Idol mentor this season.

Hoping to impress the judges for his talent and not for his appearance – he came into his audition wearing socks, shoes, and bikini shorts. It was a no for Mario.

Closing out the debut of a new season, Grace Kinstler wowed the judges with her performance of “Midnight Train to Georgia”. Luke asked what her other song would be and Grace sang “Natural Woman”. Katy told her to sing it like the legend she wanted to be. Lionel noted that Grace has great control of her voice. Luke said that it was the first time on the show that someone’s singing made his cry. Katy said Grace gave her chills. Luke compared Grace’s audition to that of Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson. Grace got her ticket to Hollywood.

“American Idol” has come to the end of another season with a grand finale filled with performances and the crowning a new Idol.

But first, the results that will reveal the final five…
Dillon James is the first artist moving on to the final.
Jonny West is also moving on to the finals.
The third person in the finals is Arthur Gunn.
Francisco Martin also moves on to the finals.
And the final spot goes to Just Sam…the only girl in the finale.

Julia Gargano and Louis Knight have been eliminated.

This is a live voting event with the winner announced at the end of the show.

For round one, the singers were asked to pick the song they would celebrate with and sing once the pandemic is over.

Dillon James is up first with “Change the World” by Eric Clapton.  Katy called it one of his best performances; adding that it was effortless.  Luke said that it felt natural.  Lionel said that Dillon’s vocal performance was stellar.

Up next is Francisco Martin with “Adore You” by Harry Styles.  Luke enjoyed watching Francisco.  Lionel said that Francisco earned his spot in the finals.  Katy agreed that Francisco deserved to be there.

Host Ryan Seacrest announced that “American Idol” would be back next year.

Just Sam chose “Stronger” by original Idol Kelly Clarkson for her celebration song.  The judges kept saying wow.  Lionel said that Sam brought attitude; adding that she killed it.  Katy noted that Sam doesn’t need to go back to singing in the subway…unless she wants too.  Luke called Sam a wonderful blessed singer.

Arthur Gunn put down his guitar this week to rock out the Gavin DeGraw song “I Don’t Wanna Be”.  In the pre-song video, the producer asked Arthur what his dream was and Arthur said that he is living it.  Katy said that Arthur is leaving it all on the floor; adding that he has grown so much.  Luke noted that Arthur connected with the camera and did a great job.  Lionel called the performance unbelievable and magical.

Finishing out round one, Jonny West performed “You Can’t Keep a Good Man Down”.  Lionel noted that Jonny can take any song in any style and make it his own.  Luke said that Jonny navigates the songs like a 40 year seasoned performer.  Katy said that she was getting lost in the performance.

Round two performances are the songs the singers would release if they won the title.

For his round two song, Dillon James chose the Bob Dylan classic “The Times They are a Changing”.  Lionel said that Dillon turned it into his song.  Katy noted that Dillon’s performance showed off more vocally.  Luke noted that this performance was better than the one Dillon did for his showcase in Hawaii.

Francisco returns with a performance of “Alaska” by Maggie Rogers.  Katy called the performance an elevated version; adding that it sounded like it was recorded in a professional studio.  Luke said that the sky is the limit for Francisco’s career.  Lionel called Francisco a model student; adding that he has taken all of their notes.

Just Sam returns with a performance of “Rise Up” by Audra Day.  After much clapping, Luke noted that Sam has grown on all levels.  Lionel called Sam an inspiration; adding that others can relate to her.  Lionel said that Sam has won in life.  Katy said what she gave them was that she rose up.

Mentor Bobby Bones noted that Arthur Gunn has travelled over 7,000 miles to realize his dream.  Arthur put his own spin on the Credence Clearwater Revival song “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”.  Lionel called Arthur an absolute star; adding that he has carved his place.  Katy said that Arthur was tremendous.  Luke said that Arthur is a star and authentic.  Luke told Arthur that if there are any more singers like him in Katmandu, to call them and tell them to come out next year.  Idol host Ryan Seacrest noted that Arthur has performed the song three times but has performed it differently every time.

Jonny West closes out the competition portion of the show with a performance of his original song “Makin’ Love”.  Katy noted that Jonny is already thinking about the future; adding that the song has soul and she is a fan.  Luke called the song radio ready.  Lionel called Jonny a singer, songwriter, producer extraordinaire.

Idol judge and Country music star Luke Bryan kicks off the superstar performance portion of the show with what he calls a drinking song – “One Margarita”.

At the Savannah auditions, Douglas Kiker sang “Bless the Broken Road”.  He returns to perform the song with Rascal Flatts.

Award winning Christian singer Lauren Daigle joins Just Sam for a performance of Daigle’s song “You Say”.

Katy Perry debuts her new single “Daisies”.

Broadway actor and award winning singer Cynthia Ervio and the top eleven singers pay tribute to “The Queen of Sou” Aretha Franklin.

In the next results, Arthur Gunn learns that he is one of the top two finalists.

And joining him is Just Sam.

Francisco, Dillon, and Jonny have been eliminated.

The new “American Idol” for 2020 is Just Sam!

New Idol Sam, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and some Idol alums including Phillip Phillips, Lauren Alaina, Kelly Pickler, Scotty McCreery, Reuben Stoddard, and Fantasia join Lionel Richie for a new performance of “We are the World”.  Richie penned the song with Michael Jackson as a charity single 35 years ago.  Richie has not performed the song since its original recording in 1985 in an all night recording session after the Grammy Awards.

This week on “American Idol” the top 10 becomes the top seven, just one week shy of the grand finale.

This week many of the performances were prerecorded.

To salute mother’s and Mother’s Day, this week’s theme is the Disney Songbook as the singers continue to perform from their homes.

This week in honour of Disney Week, Katy is dressed a “Jumbo” – Dumbo’s mother and she has a baby elephant in her arms – her dog in a costume.

The first person moving on to the top seven is Arthur Gunn.  Arthur chose “Kiss the Girl” from “The Little Mermaid”.  Katy noted that Arthur seemed very relaxed.  Luke noted that Arthur has become a potential massive star.  Lionel noted that Arthur puts his own stamp on every song.

The next singer in the top seven is Just Sam who sings “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from “Cinderella”.  After congratulating Sam, Luke said that she did a great job.  Lionel noted that Sam is their kid who has grown up right in front of them; adding that she is a star.  Katy loves Disney week, said that Sam is already a star.

Next up moving on to the top seven is Jonny West with “Almost There” from “The Princess and the Frog”.  Lionel called Jonny their casual assassin; adding that he is so effortless.  Katy called him a mix of Randy Newman, Billy Joel and Paul Simon; adding that he picked the right song and stayed true to himself.  Luke noted that Disney week forces people down a path they don’t normally go.

Also moving on to the top seven is Louis Knight.  Louis was mobbed by his family after the news.  He sang “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from “The Lion King”.  Katy said that Niall Horan better watch out; adding that he is going to be a massive star and look back on this moment.  Luke loved the tenderness of the performance; adding that Louis has a great future.  Lionel noted how difficult it is to perform solo with no audience.

Also moving on to the top seven is Julia Gargano who calls it insane.  She sings the title track from “Beauty and the Beast”.  Luke thought the song was a bit low.  Lionel noted that Julia’s low register needed a bit more work but he mid and highs were great.  Katy said that Julia has a gorgeous voice; adding she loved the arrangement but agreed with the guys on her voice.

The next singer moving on to the top seven is Francisco Martin who got cheers from the judges.  Francisco sings “You’ll Be in My Heart” from “Tarzan”.  Lionel said that they were witnessing the transition of Francisco; adding they loved to see the emotion.  Katy called the performance amazing; adding he showed the confidence and was spot on with his performance.  Luke said that Francisco did a great job; adding that he was king of the jungle.

And the final singer in the top seven goes to Dillon James.  Dillon said that they were going to give him a heart attack; adding that he was speechless.

With Dillon taking the final spot, Jovin Webb, Sophia James, Grace Leer, and Makayla Phillips have all been eliminated.

Dillon sang “Our Town” from “Cars”.  Katy said that Dillon took everything they said last week and applied it magnificently.  Luke noted that the performance had dynamics and emotion in the performance and felt great from top to bottom.  Lionel called Dillon a storyteller and a true artist.

Last year’s Idol winner Laine Hardy returns to Idol to perform “Life is a Highway” from “Cars”.  Laine will return next week for the grand finale.

With only seven singers moving on, they all sing two songs with the second round a Mother’s Day dedication.

Katy gets out of her costume for the second half of the showing off her baby bump; adding that the baby is kicking; especially during the performances.

Up first with his Mother’s Day dedication is Arthur with “Hey, Ma” by Bon Iver.  Luke noted that the high part of Arthur’s voice was done so well; adding it was a great performance.  Lionel said that Arthur could sing the phone book; adding no matter what he sings, it’s Arthur Gunn.  Katy called the performance beautiful; adding that Arthur makes her think he is a professional touring artist.

While this season is winding down, Idol is already promoting the submission of auditions for the next season at AmericanIdol.com/auditions.

Cynthia Erivo, Lauren Daigle, Rascal Flatts, judge Katy Perry, and judge Luke Bryan are all performing next week.  One of the singers…and co-writers…of “We are the World”, Lionel will be performing the song on the grand finale next week.

Just Sam returns with a dedication to her grandmother and “I Turn to You” by Christina Aguilera.  Lionel called Sam the angel of the group; adding that it is just one step closer to being Sam the star.  Katy said that Sam has shown incredible growth.  Luke noted that Sam has so many tools and left a forever mark on them; adding that she is an inspiration to the little girls out there.

Jonny West gave his dedication to his mother and sang his own version of “Amazing Grace” that included some original verses.  Jonny headed home to surprise his mom and gave his performance from his parent’s home.  Katy called Jonny original and talented; adding that she is 100 percent sold.  Luke noted that the added lyrics were great; adding that he has songwriting talent.  Lionel called Jonny a songwriter; noting that writing an “Amazing Grace” mother’s day verse might be difficult even for him.

Louis Knight returns with a dedication to his mom and him mom’s favourite song “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King and James Taylor.  Lionel kept saying, “way to go”.  Luke wanted more dynamics on his Disney performance and he heard them all of that song; adding it was his best so far.  After wishing his mother a Happy Mother’s Day, Lionel said that it way exactly what Louis needed to do.  Louis made Katy cry; saying it was one of his best performances ever.

Julia Gargano dedicates her performance of “Sweetest Devotion” by Adele to her mom. An emotional Katy, said that when the moms cry, she cries.  Katy called it a fantastic launching pad for Julia.  Luke said that Julia owned the performance.  Lionel said that it was probably the first time Julia delivered the song and was in the moment.

Francisco Martin gives a dedication to his mom for Mother’s Day…and her birthday…by cooking breakfast.  His mom is a nurse working on the frontlines.  Francisco performed “River” by Leon Bridges.  Katy said that Francisco has grown even more from his first performance to this one;  adding it was soulful and real.  Luke said that Francisco’s performance was better than the original; adding he would buy the song right now.  Lionel loved that the confidence was front and center; adding Francisco has a career.

Closing out the night of performances is Dillon James with a dedication to his mom and a performance of “Hang On. Hang On” by Amos Lee.  Luke noted that Dillon gave a great performance; adding that he will go far.  Lionel noted that there are kids out there struggling like Dillon did and he is an inspiration to them.  An emotional Katy noted that Dillon had come from a dark place but is much lighter now.

Next week it all comes to an end with the grand finale and the crowning of the new “American Idol”.

Still working from their homes, the top 20 singers on “American Idol” will learn tonight who will move on to the top 10 after the fan vote eliminates half of them.

The show opens with season 10 winner Phillip Phillips singing his hit “Home” while clips of the top 20 are aired in their homes.  The theme for tonight is “Home” or places that make them feel at home.

This week Katy Perry comes dressed as a roll of toilet paper…but didn’t stay in costume.

Some 36 million votes were cast last week.  Unlike the earlier season that sported similar vote numbers, fans are limited to just 10 votes per week.

Host Ryan Seacrest announced that tonight only the judges have a chance to save one of the singers.

This week the singers get some one on one time with mentor Bobby Bones.

In the first results of the night, Louis Knight is the first singer in the top 10.  An excited Louis said that his heart is beating through the roof.  This past week Louis was delivering pizzas to health care workers  Louis chose the Coldplay song “In My Place”.  Sans her toilet paper costume, Katy said that it was a good song choice.  Luke wasn’t blown away; but said that Louis has star quality.  Lionel called the performance really good.

This week’s votes will place the top seven.

The next singer moving on to the top 10 is Julia Gargano.  Living in New York City, Julia chose “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel for her “Home” themed song.  Luke called it his favourite performance of the year so far.  Lionel said that Julia took the song and made it her own.  Katy agreed with Luke; adding that Julia showed off how talented of a singer she was.

The third singer moving on to the top 10 was Jovin Webb “Voodoo” by Allen Stone.  Lionel loved the performance; adding that it was fabulous coming out of Jovin’s mouth.  Katy said that she was at a NOLA bar drinking; adding that she escaped with Jovin.  Luke said that Jovin did not hit one bad note; adding it was his best performance.

The next Idol hopeful moving into the top 10 is Country singer Grace Leer.  She chose “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – a song she grew up singing.  Noting it was an unusual performance, Katy said that she showed off a big voice.  Agreeing with Katy, Luke loved the performance.  Lionel reminded Grace to remember who her audience is.

The next singer moving into the top 10 is Jonny West.  Jonny sang the Journey hit “Faithfully”.   Luke noted that Jonny’s ability to look comfortable is amazing; adding that he can do anything.  Lionel said that Jonny made the song his own.  Katy said the performance was beautiful and magical; adding that she wants to see one of his shows.

Halfway through building the top 10.  The next singer to join the coveted group is Sophia James.  Singing from her room in California, Sophia chose “In My Room” by The Beach Boys for her song.  Lionel noted that Sophia has done the work; adding that he loves her delivery.  Katy noted that Sophia has a career in music…with or without Idol.  Luke called Sophia a wonderful vocalist; adding that it was magic to watch.

The next singer moving on to the top 10 is Arthur Gunn.  All of the singers were surprised to learn their results, but Arthur was truly shocked to get the news.  The Nepal native chose the John Denver smash hit “Take Me Home, Country Roads” but with a reggae beat; saying that it reminds him of his home.  Katy said that she more connected with that performance.  Luke noted that Arthur put his own vibe on the song and showcased himself.  Lionel noted that Arthur made the song believable; adding that he loved what Arthur did.

Only three more spots remain to fill the top 10 and 13 singers hoping theirs is the next name to be called.

The next person moving into the top 10 is Just Sam.  Alone in California, Sam chose not to go home to New York when the news to quarantine came out.  She chose the Bill Withers song “Grandma’s Hands” for her Grandma in New York.  Luke noted that it is Sam’s range that makes her worth listening too.  Katy said that the song reminded her of being is church.

Filling one of the last two open spots in the top 10 is Dillon James.  Dillon said that he was not expecting that to happen. Dillon sang The Beatles hit and most covered song in history “Yesterday”.  Lionel noted that Dillon has a very identifiable voice.  Luke and Katy were looking for a little more shape and form in the song.

And the final singer in the top 10 is Francisco Martin!  Francisco’s mom is a nurse working on the front lines.  He chose the James Arthurs song “Falling Like the Stars”.  An emotional Katy, said the song was believable and she felt it.  Luke called Francisco a diamond in the rough.  Lionel gave a shout out to Francisco’s mom; adding that Francisco showed who he was and did a great job.

During a commercial break the judges discussed whether or not they wanted to take advantage of their one and only save for the season.  They chose to use the save.  Katy revealed that they were saving Makayla Phillips.  Katy said that Makayla can give the other singers a run for their money if she chooses the right songs.

Makayla’s dad is a fireman.  She chose to sing the Miranda Lambert song “The House that Built Me”.  Luke said that he is glad she came back to show how great she is.  Lionel called Makayla a star.  Katy said that she felt like Makayla was singing directly to her.

Next week the top eleven become the top seven with only two weeks remaining in the season.

Stay at home orders and social distancing orders have changed the way the nation does things.  As a result; live television programming has also had to do business.

For the first time in “American Idol” history, the top 20 singers will perform for fan votes from their homes.

Host Ryan Seacrest gets the night started from his Los Angeles home and using the latest in technology to canvas the country and bring the music to fans.

The judges are also working from their homes.  Katy comes on camera dressed as a bottle sanitizer – “American Idol Music Sanitizer”.

Lionel pointed out that the singers don’t have all the glitz and glamour and will have to bring themselves to the performances.

Next week the top 20 will become the top 10.

Kimmy Gabriela in Florida gets the night of music started off with an Ariana Grande song.  Katy said that Kimmy has had a character evolution and is starting to know who she is.  Luke was looking for the neighbours to look over the fence; adding that it was impressive to see her navigate the notes.  Lionel noted that it was one thing to sing but another to act out the song and she took it to the next level.

Baton Rouge’s Jovin Webb is next with the Joe Cocker classic “A Little Help from My Friends”.  Luke called Jovin a very special talent.  Lionel said that Jovin has that instant identity and is delivering it with feeling; adding that he killed it.  Katy noted that every singer gets the same stuff but Jovin separated himself from the rest of the group.

Music teacher Franklin Boone performed the Tears for Fears hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.  Lionel and Luke came to their feet.  Lionel loves Franklin’s voice; adding that he is true to himself.  Katy said that she started tearing up; adding that Franklin has the “it” factor.  Luke said that he had chill bumps the whole song.  Luke called it a top 10 performance.

Back in California, Olivia Ximines sang the Billie Eilish song “bad guy”.  Katy said that she got to hear the quality of Olivia’s voice.  Luke said that Olivia always brings a show.  Lionel said that Olivia has everything to be a star.

Up next is Louis Knight from Pennsylvania with “If the World was Ending”.  Luke loved the song choice; adding that it gave a clear message as to who he is.  Lionel said that Louis’ voice was stellar; adding that loved the performance.  Katy agreed it was a great song choice; adding that his inflections were really cool.

Back to California and Makayla Phillips with the Ariana Grande song “Greedy”.  Lionel said that all 20 should go through and call it a day.  Lionel called her performance professional.  Katy said Makayla looked natural; adding that her song choice was a good one; but there were better choices.  Luke liked the star power and vocals at the end of the song.

Mentor Bobby Bones announced that next week the top 10 will again be at home next week performing songs about home.

Back to the deep south with Aliana Jester in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida singing “Run to You” by Whitney Houston.  Katy noted that Aliana put a lot of passion into her performance; adding that she got goose bumps.  Luke also noted that he got goose bumps; adding that he loved it.  Lionel noted that Aliana made the song her own.

Faith Becnel in Louisiana chose the Bishop Briggs song “River” for her performance.  Faith brought a “dang” out of Luke.  Lionel told Faith to open her eyes more; but he loved the song.  Luke called it his favourite rendition of the song.  Katy noted that Faith stuck the song.

From Woodland Hills, California Nick Merico performed the Plain White T’s song “Hey There Delilah”.  Katy called the performance amazing.  Lionel loved the performance.  Luke liked that Nick had stripped it down, just playing the piano.

Lauren Spencer-Smith gave a performance of “Mama Knows Best” by Jesse J with an incredible lakeside view behind her.  Katy said that Lauren sounded great; adding that she is growing as a star.  Luke said that Lauren’s voice gets better and better; adding that it is amazing.  Lionel said that her voice and attitude were amazing.

In Georgia, Cyniah Elise performed the Demi Lovato song “Warrior”.  Lionel called the performance crazy.  Luke called Cyinah one of the best singers in the show; adding it was a great song choice.  Lionel said that she makes things look effortless.  Katy noted that Cyniah is growing.

Crossing the country back to California for Francisco Martin performed judge Katy Perry’s song “Teenage Dream”.  Katy said the song choice worked; adding he did it real justice.  Luke said that he was nervous; adding that Francisco made it his own.  Lionel also said that Francisco made the song his own.

Close to home, Sophia has changed her name from Wackerman to James.  She sings “Burning”.   Katy said that Sophia is constantly evolving.  Luke called Sophia sneaky good.  Lionel said that Sophia can melt hearts when she looks into the camera.

In Colorado, Dewayne Crocker Jr performed the James Brown hit “I Got You (I Feel Good)” while family members danced.  Luke said that the song had a little too much slick for him but the last note was impressive.  Lionel agreed with Luke.  Katy noted that Dewayne has a good voice but wanted more growl.  Lionel told Dewayne to keep his dancers.

In Bakersfield, sitting outside Dillon James performed “Let it Be Me”.  Lionel said that Dillon’s presentation looked like a world class artist.  Luke said that Dillon needs to just go and make the kind of music he wants to make.  Katy agreed; adding that Dillon’s dreams are in his hands.

In Kansas, Nepal native Arthur Gunn performed “Lovin’ Machine”.  Host Ryan Seacrest said that the judge’s body language said it all.  Katy reminded Arthur to look at the camera.  Lionel called the performance powerful.  Luke said that Arthur has the potential to be a “ginormous” star.

In New York, Julia Gargano performed “Human”.  Luke loved hearing the nuances in the singer’s voices.  Lionel noted that there are a lot of singers in the world but stylists rule the world.  Katy said that Julia checked all the boxes.

After winning the first fan vote of the season, Grace Leer performed the Faith Hill song “Cry” from California.  Lionel said that Idol is discovering true artists; adding Grace gave a great delivery.  Katy said that Grace rode that bull real well.  Luke noted that Grace gave then the big notes in the second half of the song.

Just Sam takes on the music of season three Idol winner Fantasia Barrino with “I Believe”.  Katy said that Sam looked great; adding that she is flourishing.  Luke said that Sam owns every aspect of her voice range; adding that she did a great job.  Lionel called Sam an inspirational figure in the group; adding that he loves her Afro.

Closing out the night of music is Jonny West on the west coast performed the Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World”.  Katy kept saying, “we’re not worthy”.  Luke said that Jonny could take his career anywhere he wanted.  Lionel said that Jonny has a musical arsenal.  Jonny noted that he had made his song choice before the current situation.

Voting ends at 9am eastern time on Monday morning.

Last week on “American Idol” the judges revealed the top 20…rather 21; leaving the last spot up to the fans.  Fans will choose who will round out the top 20 with their first vote of the season on AmericanIdol.com

It is April 12 – Easter Sunday – and with most of the country still under the stay at home order, the series is taking the next two weeks to give fans a closer look at the singers on season 18 of “American Idol: This is Me” in hopes that the live performances can begin soon.

Idol takes some time to give fans a closer look at each singer when they are not on the stage.

It’s the last night for final judgment on “American Idol”.

When the show ended last week, Dillon James was awaiting his results. Eight singers have already been placed into the top 20 and will be singing for fan votes.

Lionel Richie reveals that he has some good news…good news, Dillon is an artist; the great news…he is in the top 20! Dillon was very emotional upon hearing the news.

Genavieve Linkowski got the news from Luke that he didn’t feel a connection in her showcase performance and will not be moving on to the next round. Katy said that she was impressed by Genavieve’s growth.

Franklin Boone has been working to make music his life beyond teaching. After telling Franklin that they are having to let some good people go, Katy revealed that Franklin is not one of them and will be in the top 20.

Julia Gargano impressed Katy with her original song at the original audition. After her performance of a Pink song in the showcase, Luke told Julia that she is in the top 20; adding that she could go all the way.

Aliana Jester was really nervous to learn her results; Lionel revealed that she is a part of the top 20.

Sophia Wacherman earned a standing ovation during Hollywood week and wowed the judges again in her showcase performance. Sophia thought she was being pranked when Katy told her she was in the top 20.

After squeaking through Hollywood week, Robert Taylor but redeemed himself somewhat with his showcase performance of a Sir Elton song. But it wasn’t quite enough, Robert did not make the top 20.

Lionel called Kimmy Gabriela top 10 material in her audition. Since then it has been a series of firsts for the 17 year old. Saying that she doesn’t remember all of Kimmy’s performances, Katy told her that it wasn’t enough to just be a good singer; but she will be a part of the top 20.

After a clip of some singers who did not make it, Shannon Gibbons learned that she also did not make the top 20.

Cyniah Lee is among the youngest singers to make it in the top 40 and chose the Labelle hit “Lady Marmalade” for her showcase performance.

Makayla Phillips had the crowd singing along with her showcase performance.

Lauren Spencer-Smith sang “Respect” for her showcase performance.

All three of the teens have earned a spot in the top 20.

Olivia Ximmenes ended the night of showcase performances with “Proud Mary” and brought the judges to their feet. After calling her performance amazing, Lionel told Olivia that she is in the top 20.

Only two spots remain in the top 20.

Lionel called Arthur Gunn one of the most unique singers in the competition. The Nepelese native chose a Bob Marley song for his showcase performance. Calling Arthur pure light, Lionel told Arthur that he is in the top 20.

And then there was one…
Demi Rae did not make it to the top 20 but Katy told her it was the beginning of the new Demi.

In the final decision Country music singers Grace Leer and Lauren Mascitti learned their results together. Luke said that both performances were really great. Saying that they couldn’t make a decision, the judges decided to leave it up to American voters and moved them both on to the next round.

Host Ryan Seacrest is asking fans to begin voting now to decide whether it will be Lauren or Grace moving on to the top 20.

Next week, Idol takes a closer look at the top 20.

“American Idol” travels to Hawaii for a showcase of the remaining 40 singers in a program that was shot back in January before the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus in the United States.

By the end of the showcase half of the singers will be eliminated from the competition as they work their way to the live shows and the fan vote.

Up first was Nick Merico, someone that Lionel didn’t like because he thought Nick was too arrogant. Nick sang a Bruno Mars song for his showcase. Admitting something has changed in him, Lionel announced that Nick is the first person in the top 20.

Makayla Brownley sang an Ingrid Andress song for her showcase. Lionel felt that she was too hyped up when she went on the stage and Luke announced that Makayla did not make it into the top 20.

Dewayne Crocker put his own spin on the smash hit “Old Town Road” for his showcase performance. Lionel noted that they had been wrestling with Dewayne; adding it was a hard decision but he is moving on to the top 20. Katy praised his showcase performance.

Camryn Leigh Smith chose “Break Every Chain” for her showcase. Katy thought that Camryn has a cool voice but Lionel didn’t feel the connection. Camryn did not make the top 20.

A storm popped up while the judges were delivering the news of the final judgement.

Devon Alexander, Jordan Jones, and Geena all failed to make the cut and are going home.

English born singer Louis Knight chose to perform the Sheeran song “Castle on the Hill” for his showcase. In true Hawaiian fashiion, Louis performed in bare feet. Katy noted that it wasn’t Louis’ best performance saying that he was too much in his head and needs to sing from the heart. Saying they have a bet on him, Louis made it into the top 20.

Fransisco Martin chose the Harry Stiles song “Falling” for his showcase and impressed the judges enough to make it into the top 20.

Jovin Webb impressed the judges in his audition with “Whipping Post” and hoped to repeat it with “You Are the Best Thing” in his showcase performance. Luke said that Jovin has a lot of signature star qualities and after scaring him, Lionel announced that Jovin is in the top 20.

Faith Becnel chose a Chaka Khan song for her showcase. Luke called Faith intriguing and fun; adding that her showcase was not a step up for her. Despite the remarks, Faith made it to the top 20.

Amber Fiedler was nine month pregnant when she auditioned – she gave birth three weeks after her audition. Katy has been fighting for Amber since her audition but that faith came to an end when Luke announced that Amber would not be moving on to the top 20.

Subway singer Just Sam sang a Selena song in Spanish for her showcase and had Katy on her feet. Sam is not a Spanish speaker. Luke called the performance impressive. Sam is in the top 20.

After originally coming to an audition to support girlfriend Margie Mays, Jonny West is now alone after the elimination of Margie and is feeling the nerves. Jonny chose a song by the Fray for his showcase and brought the judges to their feet. Katy called Jonny a serious artist but noted he is also playing the self sabotage game. Telling Jonny that he is no longer in the top 40, Katy said that he is in the top 20.

Dillon James chose a Bob Dylan song for his showcase – “The Times They are A-Changin’” – for his showcase, noting that it is appropriate for the time. Lionel noted that Dillon has emerged from a tunnel…but he will have to wait until next week to get the results.

It’s the final night of Hollywood Week on special Monday edition of “American Idol”. By the end of the night the 167 singers who arrived in Hollywood will be pared down to only 40.

But first the singers who survived the duets round have to sing solo one more time. This is the first time they will be performing with a full band.

Last season Alejandro made it all the way to the finale; this season he returns to speak with the singers and to offer a little advice.

Again for this round, the singers will not get any feedback from the judges.

Despite a word of warning from Katy and the other judges about performing original songs and picking a song that would showcase their talent; a number of the singers chose to perform their own material anyway. And it was the wrong choice for many of them.

The singers who make the top 40 will get to perform in a showcase on the beach in Hawaii.

Just Sam didn’t let a sore throat slow her down and brought the judges to their feet with her performance.

Marcus had some nervous issues with his song and had went blank during his performance. And he wasn’t the only one who cracked under the pressure.

After several bad performances, Katy went back stage and spoke to the singers.

Luke questioned whether they would have 40 singers to take to Hawaii.

After the stress got to her, Makayla collapsed back stage. She has a rare condition that causes her to react badly to stress. Makayla returns to the stage and performs her song sitting on a stool.

And it’s finally time for the judges to deliberate on who moves on and who goes home.

The singers have been divided into three rooms and await the judge’s verdict. One of the rooms will go home, but two of them will be moving on.

The first room got the good news that they will be moving on to the top 40.

In room two, the news wasn’t so good, they had reached the end of their Idol journey for this year.

In room three, they will be joining the singers in room one and making the trip to Hawaii for the top 40 showcase.

Next week the top 40 must sing for their lives before a live audience in a two night event that will reveal the singers who will sing for fan votes.

It’s night two of Hollywood Week on “American Idol” and more surprises are in store for the singers.

In seasons past the singers had to go through the treacherous group round; but surprise surprise, for an Idol first the singers will have to perform duets.

Unlike the genre round where the singers get no feedback from the judges, this time the singers will get their results after they perform.

The judges point out that with the group performances the singers only had to learn a little piece of a song but with the duets the singers had to not only learn more of the song, they also had to showcase their personalities and make a connection. Song choice was also an issue for some of the duos.

Madison and Peyton had a shaky performance; Peyton apologized for his part and told the judges that Madison should be given a second chance. After a short discussion, the judges decided to give both singers a second chance.

Tito and Robert put on a very passionate performance that was filled with vocal gymnastics and lots of high notes but Lionel announced that only Robert will be moving on to the next round.

On Monday, the singers have one final chance to impress the judges.

The singers have all gathered in California for Hollywood Week on “American Idol”; but it’s nothing like they have ever seen before as the judges work to find the top singers to earn fan votes.

For the first time in Idol history the judges will see all 167 singers before the judges make any decisions.

First up, they must pick a genre and then choose a song as they sing for their life.

First up is the singer-songwriter group. During his performance, Katy screamed to hear more from Nepal native Arthur.

Not surprisingly, the largest group was the pop genre. Other genres include R&B and Country. When R&B singer Just Sam performed, she brought her “lucky box” that she uses on the trains and after she sang, the judges put money in her box.

Upon learning that the judges would be listening to all 167 singers, Luke asked if they were violating some kind of labour law.

When Amber Fielder auditioned for Idol she was nine months pregnant; she returns in Hollywood Week three weeks after having the baby.

Garbage man Doug, teased the judges by starting the wrong song before performing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and had the crowd clapping along. In deliberations, the judges had mixed reviews. Doug didn’t make it through to the next round; but he wasn’t alone.

Next week it’s the group round…and more surprises.

In a two night event, “American Idol” concludes the 2020 edition of the auditions.

Getting things started in Oregon, Robert Taylor III plays the piano as he sings and amazed the judges. Growing up in the church, Robert felt that he could never by himself; but now he has come out of his shadow fulfilling a a dream of his father’s by being on the show. Katy said that now it is time for Robert to figure out what kind of artist he wants to be and he can begin with a trip to Hollywood week.

Jafar Hurambi put on a full performance. Katy noted that Jafar’s singing wasn’t as good as his dancing and gave him a no.

Grace Leer made it to the top 20 of “American Juniors” when she was eleven; after spending some time being a “normal” kid, she has returned to music and impressed the judges. Luke said that Grace was easy to listen to, Katy called Grace instantly recognizable. Grace got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

School of Rock teacher Franklin Boone earned some applause from the judges. Luke said that he saw recording artist from Franklin. Katy said that Franklin could win the show. Franklin got his ticket to Hollywood.

Luke Stafford brought his saxophone to his audition. Lionel was impressed with the sax but Luke got three nos from the judges on his singing.

Church singer Roselyn Carter was born and raised in Watts and is looking to show that there is a way out. Lionel was knocked out but Katy wanted to hear more saying that Roselyn took them to church, so now take them to the Staples Center. Lionel said that is what you call natural talent; adding that he was moved. Luke agreed that the audition was moving. Katy said that Roselyn embodies what Idol is all about. Giving Roselyn a cheer, she got her ticket to Hollywood.

Katy wants to hold auditions on a boat, since it is so beautiful in Washington, DC. Megan Knight is the first singer to audition on a boat for “American Idol”. Luke said that she had a great voice; adding that she could use a little coaching. In the boat vote, Megan got her ticket to Hollywood. Katy has to re-enact a scene from “Titanic”

Back in the audition room…Lionel finds someone else in his seat and pretends to be an auditioner with “Hello”. Gilberto River joined Lionel before singing “Proud Mary” for the judges dressed in a rainbow top and red stiletto boots. After telling his watch that he was ok, Lionel said that in a world of uniqueness, Gilberto is unique. Lionel thought that Gilberto is theatrical. Katy said that he needs to take himself and his voice more seriously. Questioning whether he is for Idol, Lionel said no but Luke gave Gilberto a yes and he got his ticket ot Hollywood.

Justin Oliver chose a Bruno Mars song – “Treasure” – with the man who wrote the song playing the piano. Fred said technically it was great but the singer needed more energy. Luke said vocally it didn’t get all there. Lionel felt that Justin’s vocals lacked a bit. Justin got three nos from the judges.

After some clips of no votes, Aliana Jester brought her dog into the audition with her. Katy said that Aliana has an incredible gift. Luke called her a special singer. Lionel called her a star; adding that Aliana reminds him of a young Whtiney. Aliana got her ticket to Hollywood.

Jamaica native and busker Jahzan, first sang with her mother and Lionel said that they had the vibe. After Jahzan sang on her own, Katy said that she did great; adding that her voice was a mix of Tony Braxton, Cher, and Shakira. Luke noted that Jahzan had a unique voice. Lionel invited mom to stand next to her daughter, and told them that Jahzan gets her ticket to Hollywood.

Jordan Moyes gave Katy chill bumps with his audition. Luke said that the audition screams massive songwriter. Katy loved his guitar player. Lionel called the performance very fresh. Jordan got his ticket to Hollywood.

Demi Rae wrote in a journal at age nine that it was her dream to be on “American Idol”; and now she is there to audition for the show. Katy asked if Demi had ever tried to perused a music career and when Demi said no; the judges asked why at the same time. Luke said that Demi has a natural cry and a great voice. Demi got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood – Katy put the ticket inside her journal.

While the judges were roasting marshmellows, Nash sang “Shoulda Been a Cowboy” with Luke joining in. Katy liked the mullet but questioned the singing. Nash got a little singing lesson from Luke. Lionel said no but to work on it and come back strong.

Seventeen year old Makayla Brownlee hails from the wheat capital of America and chose a Dixie Chicks song for her audition. Katy said that she has a really good voice on her but told her to enunciate more. Lionel loved the yodel cry, calling it her signature. Noting that they have a lot of Country singing girls this year but Luke is anxious to see her fight it out with them. She gets her ticket to Hollywood.

In the final audition of the season, a very pregnant Amber Fiedler revealed that she has put the baby up for adoption before she sang an Etta James song for her audition. Luke said that Amber has a timeless sound and easy to listen to. Katy said that she has a big shot at going very far. Lionel said that she nailed it. Amber got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood.

Tomorrow a new Hollywood week begins with challenges never seen before.

It’s week four of the auditions on “American Idol”. As the show begins, Lionel and Luke announce that there will be a fourth judge this season. Katy announces that she is going to have a baby; adding she is going to get fat and everything will be bigger.

Luke has to remove a splinter from Katy’s finger.

Dental student Danny La Bota gets the auditions started off with his version of “Royals” by Lorde. Katy called Danny one of the most original people on Idol this season. Luke said that Danny had an old school vintage voice. Lionel noted that Danny had control and a crazy range. Danny got his ticket to Hollywood with three yeses.

Several of the auditioners were more interested in seeing Luke.

But Lou Dawg had no idea who any of the judges were. He chose an original song for his audition. After Lou called Lionel Pat Sayjak, Lionel turned his chair around. Luke said that Lou almost had it but wondered whether he had enough to make it through the show. Katy said that it felt more like a hobby. When asked if he wanted it, Lou said that he didn’t know what “it” is. Noting that it would take a lot of work, Katy said yes, but the guys said no but encouraged Lou to find “it” and come back.

Devon Alexander grew up in a log cabin with a TV that got only one channel – the one Idol was on. The judges were into it and gave Devon his ticket to Hollywood.

Makayla Phillips auditioned in 2017 but was two weeks too young at the time. She returns to try again and gave Katy chills. Makayla got her her ticket to Hollywood.

Mosean Wilson chose an original song for his audition that he performed on his own keyboard. Luke said that Mosean is what it’s all about. Katy said that he has an incredible voice. Lionel said that they felt it and gave Mosean a hug. Lionel said that they are standing behind him and gave Mosean a ticket to Hollywood.

After clips of yes votes, Faith had questions about her. While they thought she had a good voice, they weren’t sure she was taking herself serious. Saying that Faith had a ton of potential, Katy said yes…and Luke agreed giving Faith her ticket to Hollywood.

After meeting at church Kat (Luna) and Space Cowboy (Alejandro) auditioned together with “Shallow” from “A Star is Born”. Luke asked if they were real people and Katy was in tears. Luke said that Space Cowboy is a good Instagram name. Luke said that it never happens that two people knock it out of the park. Kat got three yeses and then Alex also got three yeses for both singers to get their tickets to Hollywood.

Tavia brought her “girl-tarist” Terry to play with her. She chose the Gloria Gaynor hit “I Will Survive” for her audition. Calling them entertaining, Katy said that they duo should be a permanent duo, but noted the voice was sometimes iffy. Katy and Lionel said that she needs a little more work. This was Tavia’s first time doing an audition.

Sophia Wackerman comes from a musical family and played the piano for her audition. Luke said that Sophia has a signature tone. Lionel said that Sophia is several different threats that work in her favour. Katy said that Sophia has her own style with instant identity. Sophia got her ticket to Hollywood. Katy took Sophia out to meet the other singers to tell them to bring it because they have some really good singers.

Savannah is reportedly a haunted city, Jimmy Levy comes from a family of mediums and psychics. Jimmy’s mom comes in and has some psychic advice for the judges. Lionel called Jimmy a great front man for an Alternative band. Katy said that Jimmy would need a lot of work but gave him a yes. The guys also gave him a yes and Jimmy got his ticket to Hollywood. Jimmy said that his mother saw him getting the ticket seven years ago.

Dance team member Olivia Ximines performed with her dance team before singing for the judges. Lionel noted that Olivia had her dancers. Lionel called the performance fantastic. Katy called Olivia a delight. Luke said that Olivia has a sparkling personality. Olivia got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Marna Michele is the first singer to audition for the show who uses a wheelchair. Luke said that Marna has incredible range but wanted her to dig in a little more. Lionel told her to concentrate on the story because it loses the emotion. Katy gives Marna a little voice lesson. With three yeses, Marna has a ticket to Hollywood. Katy told Marna that she would be treated the same as the other singers.

West Virginia native Zack Dobbins comes from a musical family. He has never been to Hollywood…or on an airplane. Luke tuned up Zack’s guitar at the beginning of the original song Zach chose for his audition. Lionel was fascinated but couldn’t put it in words. Katy called Zack authentic. Luke said that they didn’t want to change Zack but they would teach him a little about singing. Zack got his ticket to Hollywood. Katy called Zack a diamond in the rough.

In the final audition of the night, Ren Patrick chose “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn for her audition. Luke called Ren an incredible singer; adding she did a great job. Lionel said that Ren’s got an instrument and he is interested in seeing how far she can go with that instrument. Katy brought Ren’s mom in and gave her the ticket to Hollywood.

It’s week three of the auditions on “American Idol” with more singing hopefuls trying to get their golden ticket to Hollywood.

Over the past two weeks, the judges – Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie – have encountered some good singers, not so good singers, and a gas leak on the way to collecting the newest group of singers to take to Hollywood.

This week’s auditions begin in Savannah with Kimmy Gabriela singing a One Republic song. Lionel called the performance fabulous. Of Latin heritage, Katy asked Kimmy to sing in Spanish and then told Kimmy that she was top 10. Luke said it was a yet from the first note. Kimmy got her ticket to Hollywood.

Katy revealed that boyfriend Orlando Bloom asked her to marry him on a helicopter…and she said yes.

Amelia sang “Yesterday” and played the piano for her audition. Katy called the performance a dream. She got her ticket to Hollywood

Erin Kirby sang a song that had Katy saying she didn’t like it, but loved it and a ticket to Hollywood.

jordan jones played the piano and sang; then he proposed to his girlfriend. She said yes!…and a ticket ot Hollywood

Lauren Mascitti brought her fiancee songwriter Sean to help out for her audition of an original song. Katy called the performance very moving. Saying that he is a sucker for a good songwriter, Lionel liked the silky mood of her storytelling. Lauren got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Country music DJ and podcast host Ryan Harmon did an original song – one he hopes will be on Luke’s next album – for his audition. Luke asked if Ryan ever thought of moving to Nashville. Ryan said he had. Luke said that Ryan had a good voice but not sure Idol good. Katy said that he was a couple yeas away from the golden dust. Lionel told Ryan to go to Nashville. Ryan didn’t get his ticket to Hollywood but got three very optimistic no’s from the judges. Luke noted that he is Grand Ole Opry host material.

Host Ryan Seacrest saw a girl on the corner who said that she wanted to audition but felt she had missed the cut off. Ryan brought her into the audition room himself with no previous screening. In an Idol first, the judges let her audition. Courtney Timmons, the security guard, got her audition of “Rise Up” A Cappella. The judges thought they were being punked. Saying that she had een Courtney sitting outside, Katy said that she could sing; adding that she is the best singer they have seen today. Courtney got her ticket to Hollywood. Katy said that Courtney is what “American Idol” is.

Lauren Spencer is a 16 year old singer from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Lionel said that Lauren was wise and gifted beyond her years; adding she did a great job. Luke called Lauren’s voice super interesting. Katy said that Lauren has a God given gift; adding that she has a lot to work with. Lauren got her ticket to Hollywood.

Accompanied by his 78 year old great grandmother, Dewayne Crocker Jr. chose the Bobby McFerrin hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” for his audition. Lionel liked the timber of Dewayne’s voice; adding that he has the goods. Katy noted that it was an interesting take on the song but wanted to connect more. Katy said it was a roll the dice moment for her but the guys said yes. Lionel got to meet great grandma…and a big hug. She told Lionel that they met on “Lady” and walked down the aisle to the song. Lionel sang a bit of the song as he danced with grandma; calling her a treasure.

Dillon James chose “Make You Feel My Love” for his audition. Katy called the performance awesome. Luke noted that the song was done with feeling and honesty; adding he had a Chris Isaak thing going. Lionel said that Dillon made it his song. Katy called his a country Post Malone. Dillon got his ticket to Hollywood.

Big Katy Perry fan Geena sang an original song for her audition and got the judges to join in on the song with her. Katy called her personable with a good voice. Luke said that she has a cool sound but thought the song was safe. Geena got three yeses and her ticket to Hollywood.

Jared Lettow – the other Jared Leto – showed off his yodeling skills with his audition. He gave Katy a yodeling lesson. Katy said that he had one of the coolest party tricks ever but Jared got three nos from the judges.

After clips of some not so good auditions, Luke and Katy came out with a megaphone asking for some real talent.

Shannon Gibbons chose the Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind” for her audition. Katy said that was why she keeps coming back to the show. Luke called it their new barometer. Shannon got her ticket to Hollywood amid a chorus of yeses from the judges.

While waiting for Katy in makeup, Luke and Lionel sing to some of their vinyl albums.

Model Isaiah Grass brought his music machine to perform an acoustic version of “Take on Me” by A-ha. The judges provided a little background singing during the audition. Katy said it was something and Luke called it a journey. Katy noted that he had a big range but was more of a musical theater person than an Idol person. Lionel said that he had a great package but needed something that encompassed that. Isaiah got three nos, but advice to go to musical theater.

In the final audition of the night, Genavieve Linkowski returns to Idol after being eliminated during Hollywood week two years ago. Playing the piano she sang “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You”. Katy said that she felt the song through and through. Lionel noted that she has actually grown; adding that she isn’t just singing, she is performing. Genavieve got her ticket back to Hollywood.

It’s week two of the auditions and “American Idol” travels to Savannah to begin the auditions.

After a prayer from the family, Cyniah Elise wowed the judges with a performance that had Lionel comparing her to a young Whitney Houston. After getting her ticket to Hollywood, the large musical family comes into the audition room. Noticing all the young faces, Lionel notes who they will be seeing in seasons to come and invites them all to come…one by one.

Kay Genyse impressed the judges with her personality, but not so much with her voice.After initially getting a no, Kay told Katy that she would do whatever it took to make it to the next level. Katy told her to take it to the street where she performed for the crowd who gave her a yes, the judges agreed and Kay got her ticket to Hollywood.

The first male cheerleader to make it onto the Philadelphia Eagles cheer leading squad, Kyle Taylor brought the whole squad to join him for his audition. Even though he has no previous singing experience, Kyle impressed the judges enough to get his ticket to Hollywood. Katy requested Kyle sing the song one step up and later told him that picking the right key was important; Lionel and Luke noted that Kyle has some work to do and has some stiff competition. Kyle gave each of the judges an Eagles jersey.

Louisiana native Jovin Webb blew the judges away with his performance of “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers. Lionel said that Jovin brought the BBQ sauce to “American Idol”. Katy got chills and Luke said that he could drink a lot of bourbon listening to that voice; adding that he would fly to whatever bar Jovin was singing in to hear that voice. Jovin got his ticket to Hollywood.

There was a gas leak in the building that forced an evacuation and brought the fire department. The problem turned out to be an issue with the pilot light in the kitchen and once rectified, the auditions began. But first the firemen had to do a little singing of “Al Night Long” by Lionel for the judges.

After some crazy vocal warm ups, Claire Jolie Goodman sang Broadway and Opera for her audition. Noting that she was comfortable in the Broadway style, Lionel said that Idol was not in her wheelhouse. Katy told Claire that if she wanted to be a Broadway star, then she should go there. Saying that she has some tremendous gifts, Luke told Claire to go to Broadway.

In between singers, Luke and Lionel muck around on the piano.

After being cut in Hawaii last season, Margie Mays returns to Idol and this time she brings her boyfriend along to play piano and audition himself. Katy called the performance nice but Margie didn’t choose the right song. Noting that Margie sang some bad notes last time, Luke said that there were no bad notes this time. Lionel liked the Margie that came back. The guys gave Margie a yes…and her ticket back to Hollywood.

Boyfriend Johnny West sang an original song for his audition. Katy called him silent but deadly; adding that he was so pro and pleasing to the ear. Katy noted that Johnny may go further than Margie. Lionel said that Johnny has everything Johnny needs to be a star. Luke said that Johnny has some special stuff. Johnny got three yeses and his own ticket to Hollywood.

Big families were the theme of the day for “American Idol” but none was bigger than Sarah Isen’s. Raised by two moms, Sarah learned who her sperm donor father was at age 14…and that she has 25 half brothers and sisters. She brought her moms, biological dad, and 10 of her siblings with her for the audition. Calling her performance flawless, Luke was blown away by the audition. Lionel noted that Sarah’s low end voice that would have him listening to every word. Katy loved Sarah’s beautiful alto voice but wanted more dynamics in the performance. Sarah got three yeses and a ticket to Hollywood.

Calling herself a universal show opener, Eliza Catastrophe brought gifts for the judges that included some very strong smelling sardines. She sang her original song “Sardines” and while the judges liked the song and felt she was entertaining; they didn’t think she was right for Idol.

During another break, the judges were roller skating around the room.

Julia Gargano performed an original song that had Katy hugging the singer. Katy said that Julia was every bit as good as Catie Turner and Alejandro; adding that she was a top five artist. Luke called the performance big time and Lionel said that she gave them the whole thing. Julia got her ticket to Hollywood.

Margie and Johnny were not the only couple to come to Idol for a shot at the show; married couple Curt Jones and Hannah Prestridge entered the room together for an audition. With Curt going first, Katy called him an authentic Country singer, Luke and Lionel noted that Curt supports Hannah. For Hannah; Katy said that she had something special, Luke noted that he could hear the pain in Hannah’s voice, and Lionel called Hannah the lead. Curt got a no from the judges but Hannah got her ticket to Hollywood.

A new season begins on “American Idol” and a whole new group of singing hopefuls. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges for this season.

Last year Laine Hardy was crowned the winner on his second attempt on the show; but Alejandro proved that a singer doesn’t have to win to make a mark on the public.

Camryn Leigh Smith gets the auditons started off. Luke said that Camryn reminded him of a young Katy. Katy and Lionel said that Camryn gave them hope for the new season. Camryn got three yeses for a ticket to Hollywood.

Douglas is a dustman from Mobile who has never performed before. Lionel sends him out to warm up. Ryan takes him out get warmed up before a group. After a bit of a warm up, Douglas Kiker returns to the audition room and gives an A Cappella audition. Katy wanted to see Douglas’ range, a real novice, Douglas didn’t know what that was. Luke sat at the piano and offered some help. For a man who does not know what his voice can do or what key he sings in, is here for one thing…to show his daughter you can do anything. Douglas got him a ticket to Hollywood…and a hug from each judge.

Francisco Martin is very nervous; so Lionel and Luke tries to help him calm down before his audition. Calmed down and ready to sing; Katy said that Francisco has an incredible voice. Katy wants to hear one of Francisco’s songs. Katy called him top 10, but Luke said top five. Francisco got his ticket to Hollywood.

Hunter Gibson – The Come Back – feels that Idol needs more rock and has Katy singing along with him. Katy liked it but isn’t sure if it’s right for “American Idol”. Luke noted that the singing and the vocals weren’t there yet. Lionel said that it wasn’t for Idol. Hunter did not get his ticket to Hollywood.

Nick Merico returned for another try. Last year he earned his ticket to Hollywood due to some personal issues never made it to Hollywood. Luke said that Nick is still dreamy and can sing. Katy said that she felt that Nick thought he was too good for them. She told Nick not to let his ego get in the way. Lionel said that he has a big problem, he doesn’t like Nick’s voice or attitude; adding that he doesn’t think Nick can make it in Hollywood. Nick got his ticket to Hollywood…and a yes from Lionel. Nick noted that Lionel scared him.

Along with the auditions, the “American Idol” bus returns to cross the country finding voices worthy of “American Idol”.

Born in Nepal, Arthur Gunn, now call America home and performed a Bob Dylan song for his audition. Lionel wanted to hear another song; Katy wanted him to open his eyes and look at them. Luke asked if Arthur wanted to open for him in a couple of weeks. Arthur came to the Idol bus in Knasas for his original audition. The judges called him something special and unique. Arthur got his ticket to Hollywood.

Now in the nation’s capital, Alisa calls New York home but was born in Russia. Alisa brought her musical partner Luige Babe for the audition. She played a stripper in the film “Hustlers”. They performed an original song for the audition. Katy wants to hear some Heart but they try to be funny instead. Luke called them loads of fun but was not blown away by the singing. The judges agreed it was fun but not for “American Idol”. Alisa did not get her ticket to Hollywood. Alisa said that the judges were out of their mind and didn’t know what unique was.

Born in London, Louis Knight now call Philadelphia home. He performed an original song about a friend who had committed suicide. He gave a heartfelt and emotional performance that had Luke calling him the biggest star they had on Idol. Lionel said that Louis was on to something big. Louis got his ticket to Hollywood.

In Milwaukee, Canadian singer Saveria was a child star in her homeland. Now she is looking for another chance to make it again. She performed an original song for her audition. Lionel said that she had some great vocal moments but didn’t feel it. Luke noted that Saveria worked her butt off but didn’t make him jump out of his seat. Katy called Saveria a great singer with so much potential. Lionel gave it a no, because he didn’t think that Idol could help her. With a yes from Katy and a no form Lionel, Luke had the final vote and agreed with Lionel. Katy said that Saveria deserved a chance to go to Hollywood, but the guys did not agree with her.

Luke and Lionel had some fun with Meghan Fitton the fitness instructor’s name and occupation; but when it came to her singing, Luke called it incredible and rock star worthy. Lionel called her voice raw and wonderful. Katy said that she had some special moments. Meghan got her ticket to Hollywood.

In the final audition of the night, subway singer Just Sam hopes to get out of the underground and get her ticket to Hollywood. She was very emotional when she began her audition and had to start over a couple times. She used her subway spiel before singing to help her get comfortable. Luke said that what she has is really important. Lionel told her to forget about winning but to rely on them to help her through it all. Before the decision, Sam led them in a prayer. She got her ticket to Hollywood.

Next week the auditions continue…

Only five singers remain on “American Idol” with only two shows remain before a new winner is crowned.

For these final two show, the judges no longer have a say in who stays and who goes home; it’s all up to the fans.

Each singer will perform three times, songs by Sir Elton John, songs chosen by Idol mentor Bobby Bones, and

Up first is Wade Cota with “You Are the Best Thing”.

Bobby chose the Miranda Lambert song “The House that Built Me” for Laci Kaye Booth.

Bobby chose the Bob Marley song “No Woman, No Cry” for Alejandro Aranda.

Bobby chose the Marshall Tucker Band song “Can’t You See” for Laine Hardy. Laine played a guitar he has had for only two days.

Finishing out the first round, Bobby chose the P!nk song “What About Us” for Madison Vandenburg.

Wade gets the music from the Sir Elton John songbook started with “Rocket Man”.

Laci chose the Elton John song “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”.

Alejandro chose “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word” for his Elton John performance..and played the piano.

Madison chose the song that launched Sir Elton into a superstar “You Song”.

Laine put down his guitar and closed out the round of Sir Elton songs with a performance of “Something About the Way You Look Tonight”.

Wade gets round three of dedicating songs to their personal heros with “Hard Luck Woman” by KISS.

Laci chose the Fleetwood Mac song “Dreams”.

Madison chose the Bob Dylan song “Make You Feel My Love”.

Laine chose the Beatles classic “Hey Jude” and had the crowd rocking along.

Alejandro closed out the performances with an original song dedicated to his musical mentor Twin Shadow.

Now that the performances are over, it is time to discover which three singers will be moving on to the finals and the hero’s trip home.

Only six singers and two weeks remain in this season of “American Idol”.

This week there are two themes as the singers must perform twice with 1969 – a tribute to Woodstock and Showstoppers with award winning Christian singer and Idol alum Lauren Daigle mentoring the singers.

Again this week two singers will be eliminated via fan vote unless the judges choose to use their only save of the season. This is the last week that the judges may use the save.

Madison Vandenberg gets the show started off with a performance of the Janis Joplin hit “Piece of My Heart” .

Laine Hardy takes the stage for the Joe Cocker song “I Don’t Need No Doctor”.

Katy Perry revealed that her Dad was at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon chose Joan Baez for her Woodstock performance with “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” – a song Baez sang in the early hours of the festival; she was six months pregnant at the time. Jeremiah brought the judges to their feet with his performance. Katy noted that Jeremiah was born on the same day ad John Lennon – Oct 9.

Laci Kaye Booth chose the Janis Joplin song “To Love Somebody” for her Woodstock performance.

Alejandro Aranda chose to take on Jefferson Airplane and “White Rabbit” for his Woodstock performance.

Wade Cota closes out round one with a performance of the Joe Cocker hit “With a Little Help from My Friends”. Walking back and forth in front of the judges table, Lionel said that was a 60’s style performance and the perfect song choice for him. Katy called it the best performance of the night. Luke said that Wade spiritually moved the whole room.

Idol alum Gabby Barrett took the Idol stage to perform her song “I Hope”.

Kicking off round two is Madison Vandenberg taking on Celine Dion with “I Surrender”.

Alejandro brings back his acoustic guitar with his original song “Poison”. Luke noted the difficulty in playing the guitar like Alejandro did. Lionel called him a star and Katy said it was the best Alejandro has ever sounded.

Laci Kaye Booth chose the Journey hit “Open Arms” for her Showstoppers performance. Lionel said that she gave a great delivery.

Jeremiah chose “Somewhere” from the hit musical “West Sadie Story” for his Showstopper performance. Lionel said that you cannot study mesmerizing and Jeremiah killed it tonight.

For his Showstopper performance Wade Cota chose the Shawn James song “Through the Valley”. Luke said that it felt like a Johnny Cash moment.

Laine Hardy closes out the night of performances by taking on the great Chuck Berry with “Johnny B. Good” and brought the house down. Laine has never danced before in his life and Lauren tried to give him a dance lesson during their mentoring session. The judges were on their feet dancing. Lionel said it was the perfect song.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon has been eliminated from the competition.

On Sunday night the remaining 14 contestants on “American Idol” performed in hopes of making it to the top 10.

The fans will choose seven of the top 10 with the judges picking the final three singers.

All 14 of the hopefuls will sing after learning their results. For the seven who are in danger, the judges will choose three of them to fill out the top 10.

Up first to learn her fate is Madison Vandenberg. Ryan revealed that America has voted to put Madison in the top 10.

Next up was Evelyn Cormier who is the first singer to be in danger and will have to hope that her performance impressed the judges enough to put her through to the top 10.

Walker Burroughs comes to the stage to learn his fate and finds that he will join Madison in the top 10. Walker also revealed that back home a local ice cream parlour has dedicated an ice cream flavour to him. Katy has aquired a bucket of the ice cream named for Walker Burroughs and they are eating it.

Ryan revealed that this season’s youngest singer Riley Thompson did not impress the fans enough with her performance of “Suds in the Bucket” to be voted into the top 10.

Next up Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon is the next person to learn his fate. Sir Elton John said via Instagram that Jeremiah’s performance took his breath away. The fans agreed and put Jeremiah in the top 10. Jeremiah chose to play the piano and perform an original song for his performance.

Alyssa Raghu is hoping to make the top 10 on her second try…but has so far not made it to the top 10. She has chosen to sing a Katy Perry song for her performance.

After performing “Trouble” on Sunday night, America has decided that Wade Cota should be a part of the top 10.

Next up is Dimitrius to learn whether or not he will be a part of the top 10 and he is not…at least not yet.

Laci Kay Booth is the next singer to learn her fate and learned that her risk of singing a Blink-182 song paid off and she is in the top 10.

Eddie Island was not chosen by America to be a part of the top 10 but hopes his performance of a Kings of Leon song will impress the judges enough to give him a spot.

Ashley Hess did not get voted into the top 10 and will have to sing for her life.

Also trying to make a comeback, Laine Hardy has made it to the top 10.

It’s down to Alejandro Aranda and Uche for the final spot in the top seven before the judges have their say.

In the final fan vote results of the night, Alejandro is moving on to the top 10. Alejandro also chose top perform an original song.

Uche gives the final performance of the night and chose to sing “Diamonds”. When the judges gave their remarks, Lionel came up on the stage and said that Uche is an entertainer; adding that there is only one place for an entertainer and walked Uche over to the side of the stage for the top 10.

Saying that he has changed his mind three time, Luke chose to put Dimitrius in the top 10.

With the final pick, Katy chose Alyssa Raghu as the final singer in the top 10.

Eddie Island, Riley Thompson, Ashley Hess, and Evelyn Cormier have all been eliminated from the competition.

This week on “American Idol” the top 14 and the first chance for America to have their say in who stays and who goes home.

Each of the 14 singers will perform a song of their own choosing.

Laine Hardy gets the show started off with a performance of the Elvis Presley song “That’s All Right” and brought the judges to their feet with the crowd screaming.

Evelyn Cormier takes the stage for a performance of “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World in what Katy called a crowd pleaser.

Alyssa Raghu chose “She Used to be Mine” for her performance.

Eddie Island took on Sr Elton John with “Bennie and the Jets”.

This season’s youngest contestant, Riley Thompson sang the Country song “Suds in the Bucket” for her performance. Ryan brought Riley’s seven year old sister up on the stage.

Wade Cota chose “Trouble” for his performance. Lionel gave Wade the nickname “The Hammer”. Katy called it a perfect song choice.

Dimitrius Graham chose the Ed Sheeren ht Perfect” for his performance and had the crowd screaming.

Madison Vandenburg takes to the piano for a performance of the Alicia Keys song “Fallin’” and gave Luke goosebumps.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon played the piano and sang “We All Fall in Love Sometimes” by Sir Elton John. Lionel said that he Jeremiahed the whole thing passing Elton and Freddie along the way. An emotional Katy called Jeremiah a gift.

Uche performed the Bruno Mars song “Finesse” and not only had the crowd screaming but the judges on their feet dancing.

Alejandro Aranda chose the Canadian Hip-Hop artist Drake for his performance with “One Dance” that included Alejandro playing the keyboard and a little DJ work.

Ashley Hess chose the Coldplay song “Fix You” for her performance that included her playing the piano. Katy said that Ashely looked like Diana Krall and sang like Carole King.

Laci Kaye Booth chose the Blink 182 song “I Miss You”.

In the final performance of the night, Walker Burroughs performed “Climb Every Mountain” from the hit film and musical “Sound of Music”.

In the Monday results show, the top 10 will be revealed with seven of them chosen via fan votes and the final three selected by the judges.

On Sunday night seven of the top 14 were chosen after some all star duet performances.

On Monday, the remaining seven singers will be chosen after another round of all star performances. For many of the singers it is the first time that they have performed a duet.

For the first time in 17 seasons original host Ryan Seacrest is unable to appear due to an illness. Idol mentor Bobby Bones is sitting for Ryan and is serving as the host for tonight’s show.

First up is Alyssa Raghu and Julia Michaels for the Julia Michaels song that started her singing career, “Issues”.

Next up is Eddie Island with Lukas Graham for a performance of “Seven Years”.

Wade Cota joins lovelytheband for their hit song “Broken”.

Ryan Hammond paired up with award winning performer Cynthia Erivo for a performance of “Hold ON, I’m Coming”.

Eveylyn Cormier and Chris Isaak perform his smash hit “Wicked Game”. Evelyn performed the hit for her Idol audition.

Logan Johnson paired up with Julia Michaels for a performance of “What a Time”.

Raquel Trinidad joins up with lovelytheband for a performance of the Sir Elton John song “Tiny Dancer”. Raquel said that she had never heard the song.

Alejandro Aranda pairs up with his idol Ben Harper for a performance of “There Will Be a Light” with both singers playing the guitar.

On Sunday night 10 of the singers will perform and at the end of the night, three of them will be eliminated.

First up is Walker Burroughs with Jason Mraz with a performance of “Have it All”.

Late Barmett paired up with husband and wife Neil Giraldo and Pat Benatar for a performance of “Heartbreaker”.

Performing her first ever duet Riley Thompson teamed up with Country star Brett Young for a performance of “Like I Loved You”.

Uche and Shaggy paired up for a performance of “I Need Your Love”.

Neil Giraldo and Pat Benatar return to pair up with Madison Vandenburg for a performance of “We Belong”.

Shawn Robinson joins up with Elle King for a performance of the Credence Clearwater Revival classic “Proud Mary”.

Jason Mraz returns to join up with Ashley Hess to perform Jason’s hit song “I’m Yours”.

Shaggy returns to pair up with Bumbly for a reggae rendition of the hit song of “Angel”.

Brett Young returns to join up with Laci Kay Booth for a performance of “Mercy”.

“American Idol” have revealed their top 20 and have returned to Los Angeles. Now it is time for them to showcase their voices to not only impress the judges; but to also, impress the fans for their votes.

Up first is Madison Vandenberg with ‘Domino” by Jessie J.

Shawn Robinson sang the Nick Jonas song “Jealous” and had young audience members and judge Lionel Richie up dancing.

Laine Hardy performed a unique rendition of the Sam Cooke song “Bring it on Home to Me” and not only brought the judges to their feet but noted that Laine has discovered some moves.

Wedding singer Uche sang “Figures” and gave Katy goosebumps and laying out on the floor.

Eddie Island chose a The Lumineers song or his performance.

Evelyn Cormier chose the classic John Denver song “Leaving on a Jet Plane” for her performance.

Returning singer Alyssa Raghu made it to the top 20 after being eliminated in the top 24 last season. She sang a Paramore song for her performance.

Ryan Hamond performed “You Say” by Lauren Daigle.

Raquel Trinidad sang “Love Fool” for her performance.

Logan Johnson has turned his life around with music and chose the song “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” or his performance.

Dimitrius Graham sang the Adele song “Hello”; a song host Ryan Seacrest said is the second best song with the word “Hello” in the title.

The youngest singer in the competition Riley Thompson chose the Dolly Parton classic ‘Jolene” for her performance.

Walker Burroughs took on the Bee Gees with ‘How Deep is Your Love” for his performance. He began the song A Capella and blew Luke away.

Taking on Mariah Carey, subway singer Bumbly performed “Vision of Love”

Ashely Hess performed the John Mayer Song ‘Dreaming with a Broken Heart” while playing the piano.

Alejandro Aranda performed the Post Malone song “I Fall Apart”.

Kate Barnette took on Maroon 5 with her performance of “Sunday Morning”.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon took to the piano for his performance of “Make You Feel My Love”.

Laci Kaye Booth performed the classic rock song “I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick.

In the final performance of the night, Wade Cota sang “All I Want” and brought the judges to their feet.

Next week the top 20 will perform all star duets before six singers are eliminated from the competition.

It’s the Final Judgement on “American Idol” when the remaining 40 singers travel to Hawaii to give a showcase performance before half of them are eliminated when the top 20 are revealed.

Returning singer Alyssa Raghu was the first to learn that she has made it into the top 20.

Madison Vandenburg is also in the top 20.

Vietnamese singer Myra Tran failed to make the cut.

Logan Johnson chose to sing part of his showcase performance in Spanish and earned himself a spot in the top 20.

Nate Walker survived a trip to the hospital and a lost voice to make it to the top 40. Nate chose to sing a Commodores song for his Showcase Performance and brought Lionel Richie to his feet. But Nate failed to make it to the top 20.

Dimitrius Graham did get the news he was hoping for and will be a part of the top 20.

Ashley Hess also learned that she is a part of the top 20.

Drake McCain interacted well with the crowd and had fun on stage but failed to make it to the top 20.

Church singer Kai the Singer experienced a lot of things on her journey, but failed to make the top 20.

Laci Kay Booth chose “Georgia on My Mind” for her Showcase Performance and brought the judges to their feet and made it into the top 20.

Nick Townsend did not make the top 20, but Luke and Lionel said that Nick is an inspiration and has saved lives with his story of dealing with losing his brother to suicide.

Clay Page, Kason Lester, and Johanna Jones also got no answers from the judges. But Johanna got her man when her boyfriend proposed during Hollywood Week.

Birmingham native Walker Burroughs felt that his Showcase Performance was his weakest yet but he still earned hi a spot in the top 20.

Ryan Hammond sang his boyfriend’s favourite song for the Showcase Performance – “A Song for You” – and earned himself a spot in the top 20. Ryan was very emotional when they delivered the news.

Kate Barnette and Evelyn Cormier both learned that they will be moving on to the top 20.

Emma Kleinberg fulfilled a dream by singing on the beach in Hawaii with her Showcase Performance but failed to earn a spot in the top 20.

Uche had the judges on their feet dancing with his Showcase Performance of “Play that Funky Music” and had Lionel calling him Mr. Entertainment. After teasing Uche that they were sending him home, Uche learned that he is in the top 20.

Alejandro Aranda brought the judges to their feet after his Showcase Performance and earned himself a spot in the top 20.

Church janitor Jeramiah Lloyd Harmon chose the Fleetwood Mac hit “Landslide” for his Showcase Performance and has earned himself a spot in the top 20.

Shayy chose an Adele song for her Showcase Performance and while the judges said that they love her, she is not a part of the top 20.

Mica Giaconi, Payton Taylor, and Idalis also failed to make the top 20 this season.

Riley Thompson is this season’s youngest contestant has dreamed of singing since she was four years old and has now earned herself a spot in the top 20.

Raquel Trinidad, Shawn Robinson, and Bumbly all earned themselves spots in the top 20; leaving only three remaining spots.

Naive Wade Cota doesn’t like traveling long distances and thought he needed a passport. to go to Hawaii but gave an impressive performance in the Showcase and earned himself a spot in the top 20. When he got the news, Wade asked why. Wade picked up Ryan and spun him around.

Margie Mays and Eddie Island went to see the judges together. Margie did not make it in the top 20 but Eddie did with instructions from the judges to take himself seriously.

Two more singers and only one more spot left…

Laine Hardy and Tyler Mitchell are the final singers to learn their fate but only one of them will go through. It was at this point last season that Laine was eliminated. Tyler did not make it the top 20 but this year the news was different for Laine who is the last person to fill the top 20.

On Monday night the top 20 perform for the judges…and fan votes.

It’s the final week of auditions on “American Idol” before the singing hopefuls make their way to Hollywood for the toughest week in the competition.

Katy celebrates her birthday during the Louisville auditions including a video message from Dolly Parton and a Louisville slugger bat.

Big Katy Perry fan Jessica Whitley returns to Idol after a seven year absence to give it another go but again failed to get her golden ticket.

Jacob Moran blew the judges away and earned his ticket to Hollywood. Luke said that Jacob was the best voice in Kentucky.

Several auditioners returned from previous seasons, and some of them earned their tickets to Hollywood. After being eliminated in the top 24 last season, Alyssa Raghu returned to audition again and after giving Luke goosebumps, she got her ticket to Hollywood for another try.

And after numerous wannabes, Colby Swift walked in and brought a smile to Luke’s face. Luke said that Colby reminded him of himself at 19. Despite the judges feeling that Colby is very unpolished, he got his ticket to Hollywood.

Evelyn Cormier chose the Chris Isaaks song “Wicked Game” for her audition. Katy called it one of her favourite voices ever. Evelyn got her ticket to Hollywood.

Former dental hygienist Ashley Hess played the piano as she auditioned with a Norah Jones song. Ashley had the judges gathering around the piano to hear hers sing. After praising Ashley for her control, she got her ticket to Hollywood.

Gaba chose an Adele song for her audition. Luke said that Gaba has a very polished voice. Gaba go her ticket to Hollywood.

Cheerleader and straight A student Peach Martine got mixed remarks from the judges but ended up getting her ticket to Hollywood.

While it is a singing competition, many of the singers bring their instruments along and had to get some help from the judges in getting their guitars tuned up.

Construction worker Dalton Elliott can put up his tools for a while, while he goes to Hollywood.

Katie Belle chose Jennifer Hudson’s version of “Golden Slumbers” for her audition and while Katy thinks Katie needs to work on her voice, Katie Belle got her ticket to Hollywood.

For the final audition on the Sunday night episode, 27 year old widow Lauren Engle chose an original song about her husband for her audition and earned her ticket to Hollywood.

In the final audition show on Monday, the last group of hopefuls audition in hopes of getting their golden tickets to Hollywood.

Jade Flores got the show kicked off and impressed the judges with her entertaining, not just singing. She got her ticket to Hollywood.

Jacob O’Brien chose to sing an original song he wrote about America as he auditioned wearing a flag shirt. But only Luke gave him a yes vote.

Christian Padavan chose a Billy Joel song for his audition. Katy told Christian to bring in his girlfriend, who is very shy. Christian got his ticket to Hollywood. They talked the girlfriend into singing.

Ryan Hammond grew up singing in church chose a Sam Smith song for his audition as his family listened at the door. Lionel said that Ryan made the song his own. Ryan got his ticket to Hollywood.

Chloe Channell brought Country music star Billy Dean to play guitar for her audition. Chloe got her ticket to Hollywood. Luke and Billy sang together.

Emma Kleinberg chose an Allen Stone song for her audition and earned her ticket to Hollywood.

Zeb Spencer showed off a little of clogging expertise before singing. Luke called Zeb his favourite Country voice over the past two years. He got his tcket to Hollywood.

Israeli born Jorgie performed an original song with his band – violin and piano – for his audition. After Lionel said that Jorgie nailed it, he got his ticket to Hollywood.

“Hunkasourous Rex” – Nick Merico is a veteran of Nickelodeon TV. He chose an Amy Winehouse song for his audition as he played the piano. After the audition, Luke asked if they could school him on the girls screaming. Nick got his ticket to Hollywood.

Lady Mapo dressed in black walked into the room but when she got ready to sing, she pulled her wig off and it was last season’s winner Maddie Poppy. Many of the former Idols made surprise visits during the auditions this season.

Fireman Jared Sanders chose a George Srait song for his audition as Caleb Lee Hutchinson looked on with the judges. With only a yes from Lionel, Jared did not get his ticket to Hollywood.

For the final audition of the season, Jackson Gillies amazed Luke and earned his ticket to Hollywood.

It’s week two of season 17 (two on ABC) of “American Idol” and the episode got off to a good start with a familiar face and a little sing a long with the judges. Gator hunter Laine returned to play for friend Ashton and they both walked out with a golden ticket.

Country boy Austin sang “Your Man” – the song that had Idol fans going crazy for Scotty McCreery – and danced around a bit and earned a golden ticket with a yes from the guys and then put on a little roping demonstration sitting on Luke’s shoulders.

Jake’s song choice of “This is How We Do It” had Luke and Katy dancing – including the worm from Katy – and got his ticket to Hollywood.

But along with the good performances were hopefuls who were definitely not ready to quite their day job.

Drake chose the spiritual “His Eye is on the Sparrow” for his audition and had Katy joining in. Then they did “O Happy Day from “Sister Act”. Drake got his ticket to Hollywood.

And eight other singers got their golden tickets to Hollywood.

“American Idol” returns for a second season on ABC with Ryan Seacrest hosting and Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie returning to judge the reality singing competition. Radio personality Bobby Bones returns to Idol to serve as the season long mentor to the contestants.

This season Idol stopped in Kentucky, Idaho – an Idol first, New York, California, and Colorado for auditions from singers looking to make their mark in music on the Idol stage.

Singing hopefuls used the piano, played the guitar, sag A Cappella, and even provided their own tracks as they auditioned for the judges.

After the season 17 premiere, the judges sent eleven singers to Hollywood with a golden ticket.

On a special Wednesday episode another 12 singers got their golden tickets to Hollywood.

This week on “American Idol” the top 10 take one the songs of Disney in the first ever cross the country simulcast.

Mickey and Minnie join Snow White – Katy – Lionel, and Luke to get the show started.

Starting at the beginning of the show, fans across the country can cast their votes until the last commercial break. At the end of the show, three of the top 10 will go home.

This week the artists get a visit to Disneyland and the help from a mentor – Tony Award winning performer Indina Menzel.

First up is Maddie Poppe with “The Bare Necessities” from “The Jungle Book” as she plays the ukulele. Saying that he hopes she is having a lot of fun, Lionel said that Maddie is coming of age right before their eyes. Snow White appreciated Maddie’s taking on all of those notes; adding she did a great job. Luke said that Maddie’s voice feels timeless and makes him want to keep listening.

Host Ryan Seacrest noted that even before the first song, a million and a half votes have been cast.

Jurnee performed “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana”. Katy said that Jurnee was very connected and vulnerable – which she says is a strength. Luke said that Jurnee did a great job; adding that no matter what happens to keep dreaming. Lionel reminds Jurnee that music is a business and sometimes people get it right; adding that tonight it felt like she was singing from her heart.

Ryan revealed that this week Jurnee’s Army wife was deployed and when he asked Jurnee where Ashley was going, Jurnee replied that she couldn’t say but it was very dangerous.

D Cappella perform “Never Had a Friend” from “Alladin”.

Idol rocker Cade Foehner showed off another side when he performed “Kiss the Girl” from “The Little Mermaid”. Luke said that with everything he is bringing, he is excited to see what Cade will do. Lionel noted that Cade has instant identity; adding that he loves what Cade is doing. Fanning herself with a card, Katy said that she felt like she was the only person in the room; noting that she had never seen that side of Cade. Ryan noted that there was something special about Cade’s performance.

D Cappella performs music from “The Lion King”.

Ada Vox takes on “The Lion King” when she channels her inner lioness with “The Circle of Life”. Indina called Ada a role model for kids. Ada got a rousing applause for her performance. Lionel called her a movement unto herself; adding that she needs to keep it up. Katy said that tonight she really embodied Ada Vox. Luke said that Ada has the voice to take their heads off; adding that her taking a subtle route was great.

D Cappella performs music form “The Little Mermaid”.

Michelle Sussett performed “Remember Me” from “Coco” – a song in English and Spanish. Katy noted that in the past some of Michelle’s performances didn’t focus on the sound but this time the sound was a priority. Luke said that Michelle came and did what she was supposed to do. Lionel said that Michelle’s true identity finally came through.

Ryan noted that about eight million votes have come in and there is a clear leader.

Gabby Barrett sang “Colors of the Wind” from “Pocahontas”. Luke said that Gabby has all the tools to win the show; adding she did a great job. Lionel called Gabby the package; adding she is star quality. Katy said that Gabby is diverse and showed that she can sing anything tonight.

D Cappella sang music form “Beauty and the Beast”.

Michal J. Woodard performed “Beauty and the Beast” from “Beauty and the Beast” and shocks the house when he holds a note for several counts. Lionel called Michael his little martian and Katy called him her little angel. She said that Michael fits between Michael Jackson and Frank Ocean. Luke called Michael magical like Disney.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson took on the theme from “Toy Story” with”You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. Katy said the performance was so believable and a great song choice. Luke called it a great song choice and make America smile. Lionel said that Caleb doesn’t have to anything tricky…just open his mouth.

Caty Turner took on “Sleeping Beauty” with “Once Upon a Dream”. Lionel said that Caty took them on a magical journey. Katy said that Caty showed some growth; going from a girl to a woman. Luke said they stole all his words; adding he hoped that America appreciated what all the singers were doing.

In the final performance of the night, Dennis Lorenzo also takes on “The Lion King” with “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” – a song that has some personal meaning for him. Luke called the performance a home run; adding that Dennis always knocks it out of the park for him. Lionel called the performance very good. Katy was eating an apple that “some lady” backstage gave her.

Saying that millions of votes were cast, Ryan noted that the results were very close.

After the live vote, the results that will see three singers go home…

Ada Vox, Dennis Lorenzo, and Michelle Sussett were eliminated from the competition.

The auditions have been completed, Hollywood Week is over, and the top 14 have been chosen…and now it is up to America to decide who will be the next “American Idol”!

All 14 singers will be performing tonight, but only six of them will survive the fan vote. On Monday night the remaining eight singers will battle it out for the final four spots in the top 10 which will be chosen by the judges.

There is no musical theme for tonight’s performances, the singers can perform any song they want.

First up is Caleb Lee Hutchinson playing the banjo as he performs “Midnight Train to Memphis”. Katy noted that it felt like Caleb thinks he can’t believe he is here; adding that it seemed like his nerves got the best of him. Luke noted that Caleb has grown a great deal; adding that Caleb did a great job even though he wasn’t cray about the song choice. Lionel noted that when the girls started singing, Caleb forgot about the song. This was Caleb’s first on stage performance with the banjo.

Michelle Sussett sang “Friends”. Luke said that she became a pop star tonight; adding that is what they need. Lionel agreed with Luke; adding that she owned it. Katy said that it felt like early Shakira; reminding her that she needs to play more to the voters than the audience.

Marcio Donaldson chose the Barry Manilow hit “It’s a Miracle”. On his feet, Lionel called it an old school performance; adding that Marcio’s confidence is about to get out of control and he is on fire. Katy said that it was really good and joyful; adding that Marcio is an inspiration. Luke wasn’t sold on the song but added it was a good job showing them another side. Marcio told Ryan Seacrest that he wanted to show entertainment.

Speaking on the nerves, Lionel said that he remembers all the times that the audience didn’t come to rehearsals; adding that whatever happens on stage, pretend that you meant to do it.

The youngest contestant in the competition, Mara Justine sang “This is Me” from the film “The Greatest Showman”. Katy said that Mara has come a long way toward owning the stage. Luke noted that Mara took them on a variety of rides; adding he wasn’t totally sold on that performance. Lionel noted that he knows what Mara has been through.

Garrett Jacobs took on “American Idol” champion Phillip Phillips with “Raging Fire”. Luke called it a very dynamic performance; adding that Garrett took them on a ride. He noted that Garrett is the first performer of the night who really looked comfortable on the stage. Lionel told Garrett to remember just stay in character. Katy said that she believed that Garrett was comfortable on stage; adding that he did great.

Ada Vox performed the Queen song “The Show Must Go On”. Standing Lionel said that Ada has no idea how fabulous she is; adding that she came to stop the show. Lionel noted that Ada takes them to a different level each time she performs and he is there to make sure she gets to the top; adding that she is on fire. Katy said that Ada started the show; adding that it was exciting to see her spreading her wings. Luke said it was the biggest voice he has ever heard. When Ryan asked Ada about her focus, Ada said that she loves what she does.

Next up was Catie Turner with Hozier’s “Take Me to Church”. Katy said that whatever happens, she would like to sing with Catie. Luke noted that Catie can win this thing. Lionel agreed with him; adding that there is no one like Catie.

Rocker Cade Foehner took on Carlos Santana with “Black Magic Woman”. Saying that his wife loves Cade, Luke noted that the performance showed so much about who Cade is. Lionel said that they call that the package – the talent from singing, the playing…and the swivel hips. Katy said that her mom is obsessed with Cade and wants a lock of hair for her mom…and got it. A fan from Fresno sent a bouquet of Kale to Cade.

Dennis Lorenzo sang the Shawn Mendes song “In My Blood”. Lionel congratulated Dennis for taking the next step. Katy said that it felt a little shaky at first; adding that Dennis showed him another side tonight. Luke noted that Dennis has shown so many sides of himself; adding that it was amazing.

Maddie Poppe chose the Simon and Garfunkel song “Homeward Bound”. Katy said that she closed her eyes and thought that she was listening to Joni Mitchell; adding that a lot of people can sing but not everybody has taste. Luke called Maddie seasoned in her vocal choices. Lionel said that Maddie presents herself with every song.

Jurnee chose “Bang Bang” for her performance. Luke thanked her for showing another side of herself; adding tht she brought it. Lionel kept saying oh yeah; adding that she brought it. Katy noted that they had never seen Jurnee move; adding that she is an artist now.

Jonnie Brenns took Katy’s advice and took some ballet. He chose Panic! at the Disco’s “This is Gospel” for his performance. Lionel said that he loves to watch Jonnie perform; noting that Jonnie enjoys himself on stage. Katy said that real men can wear tights and thanked him for taking her advice. Katy agreed that the performance was fun; adding she wants to hear more. Luke noted that Jonnie came in a lounge singer but is now attacking the big notes; adding that he comes out and goes after it.

Michael J. Woodard has been keeping the judge’s guessing all season long; tonight he performed the Sia song “Titanium”. Katy said that she is going to see Sia and will tell her that she met a star who did an incredible job on her song. Luke said that he felt ii in his heart that people love him; adding Michael pulls them in every time he sings. Lionel said that Michael is giving them another level and he keeps tuning in to see what Michael will do next. Michael thanked the judges for encouraging him to be himself.

The final performance of the night is Gabby Barrett chose “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus for her performance. Luke called it his favourite vocal of the night; adding that for the first time Gabby is not playing around anymore. Katy said that Gabby went through the “starwash”; adding she rode the song so well and is impressed. Lionel noted that there are things in the music business that just happen.

On Monday’s results the top 10 are revealed.

On Sunday night the first 12 of the top 24 performed before a live audience on “American Idol”. Tonight they will perform duets with chart topping award winning artists…and five will go home.

First up is Catie Turner and Andy Grammer for “Good to be Alive”. Katy Perry called Catie Turner a natural and amazing. Lionel said that Catie must be several people because she is doing things she shouldn’t know how to do. Luke called her an anomaly and amazing.

Resident rocker Cade Foehner joined up with Bishop Briggs for the INXS song “Never Tear Us Apart”. Lionel said to put the tickets on sale. Luke asked if Cade wanted to come on tour; adding to just keep doing his deal. Katy said that it was apparent he had something special.

Layla Spring and Sugarland performed “Stuck Like Glue”. Jennifer Nettles said that Layla has so much energy. Luke said that Layla just fit in with Sugarland; adding that they are watching someone who is going to be performing for a long time. Katy said that Layla is springing full of joy; adding that she has talent and personality. Lionel called Layla the bravest person he knows because he also sang with Jennifer; adding that she sang like she had been doing it forever.

Dominique paired up with Aloe Blacc for a performance of “Wake Me Up”. Aloe Blacc called Domique an “American Idol”. Katy said that she didn’t know how to critique anymore. Lionel called the performance smooth; adding that Domique is at the spot where he might become famous. Luke called Dominique a world class singer.

Brandon Diaz and Luis Fonsi for a performance of “Despasito”. Luis said that Brandon nailed it. Lionel was very surprised; adding that Brandon was toe to toe with Luis. Luke said it was a great song choice and Brandon did a great job. Katy noted that Brandon was a very diverse performer.

Kay Kay and Pat Monahan of Train paired up for “Drive By”. This was Kay Kay’s first duet ever. Luke said that Kay Kay did a great job and fun energy. Katy thought the blend was amazing. Lionel commended Kay Kay on her first duet; adding that she took care of business.

Bishop Briggs returns to pair up with Trevor McBane for a performance of “River”. Katy said that it was amazing to see Trevor come out of his shell. Lionel called it the real deal; adding that Trevor went toe to toe with Bishop. Luke said that they loved Trevor’s vibe.

Luis Fonsi returns to sing “I Can’t Make You Love Me” with Michelle Sussett. Lionel said that they had chemistry and their voices blended perfectly. Luke didn’t want it to end. Katy said Michelle made her a believer; adding that she can be whatever she wants.

Andy Grammer returns to perform “Back Home” with Jonny Brenns. Luke said that Jonny did a great job; adding he is learning it like he should. Lionel noted that Jonny was having some fun on stage; adding that’s what performing is all about. Katy suggested that Jonny take some ballet or movement classes; telling him to do anything he can to be the best he can be.

Dennis Lorenzo joins up with Allen Stone for “Unaware”. Katy kept saying wow; adding that it was so special. Lionel noted to find that kind of chemistry tells you where you are; adding that it was spectacular. Luke said Dennis is like the little engine that could and keeps showing them what he can do; adding the performance felt so natural.

Pat Monahan returns to perform “Angel in Blue Jeans” with Michael J Woodard. Lionel noted that Michael is rising to the occasion. Luke said that he cannot take his eyes off of Michael on stage; telling him to keep it up. Katy called Michael a beautiful chameleon.

In the final performance of the evening, Sugarland returns to perform “Stay” with Gabby Barrett. Luke said that Gabby nailed it top to bottom. Katy noted that Gabby has come so far. Lionel againg noted that he has sung with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland and said that Gabby nailed it.

Trevor McBane, Kay Kay, Domique, Layla Spring, and Brandon Diaz have all been eliminated. Luke tells the eliminated artists that they can control what they do from now on.

The auditions are over and 24 Hollywood Week have survived Hollywood Week now it is time for the first performances.

Over the next two weeks the top 24 will be performing live and an all star duet.

For the first time on Idol, the top 24 get a mentor to help them prepare for their upcoming performances when Country music star Bobby Bone joins the cast.

First up is Dominique with the Rufus and Chaka Khan hit “Ain’t Nobody”. Saying that Dominique has arrived, Katy said that she felt like it was a show at a club. Saying that he is a great talent, Lionel called Dominique the star attraction. Saying that it was awesome, Luke noted that Domique showed another side of himself.

Next up was Kentucky girl Layla Spring with “A Broken Wing” by Martina McBride. Lionel noted that it was one thing to take their advice and another thing to do; adding that Layla did it. Saying that she dug in, Katy said that Layla made them feel it and was impressed with what Layla did. Saying that she is infectious, Luke said that it was fun to watch Layla; adding that she is mature beyond her years.

Catie Turner sang the Blondie hit “Call Me” and had the judges up dancing. Luke said that he couldn’t stop watching her; adding that she did a good job. Saying she made a cool song choice, Katy noted that Catie’s sound is growing. Saying that she did a great job, Lionel said that Catie has taken her style and med them believers.

Dennis Lorenzo wanted to bring a little fun to the stage and chose Magic’s “Rude” for his performance. Katy loved seeing the connection; adding that she also loved the island vibe in the song. While Lionel was crazy about the song choice, he noted that Lorenzo brought the flavour. Saying that Lorenzo could do no wrong in his eyes, Luke loved the stage presence; adding that Lorenzo is a natural star.

Michelle Sussett chose to sing in English and Spanish with “If I Were a Boy” by Beyonce. Lionel said that she has stage presence and superstar ability. Saying that she loved the bilingual singing, Katy noted that Michelle has the power to light the stage on fire. Luke noted that Michelle has a unique tone.

Michael J. Woodard chose to sing “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles and brought the judges to their feet. Luke noted that Michael lets all of his emotions show. Katy called Michael chosen; adding that he is meant to be here. Lionel said that Michael is spectacular at showing his emotions; adding that is his character and to keep it up.

Trevor McBane sang “Way Down We Go” by Kaleo. Katy called Trevor a thunderbolt in a bottle; adding that it is hard to control him. Lionel said that he knew he was going to be slayed every time Trevor took the stage; but added he wanted Trevor to let go. Luke said that Trevor is making them believe but also noted that Trevor is still reigned in and needs to let go.

Jonny Brenns chose to perform the Vance Joy song “Georgia” and had the girls screaming. Lionel asked if he sensed the sexy coming out; adding that Jonny is blooming and coming alive. Saying that she believed in him from day one, Katy said that Jonny’s song choice was dead on. Luke said that Jonny is a great star but just doesn’t know it yet. Luke said that Jonny has a really smooth voice that no one expects; adding that Jonny has all the tools.

Kay Kay chose to perform the Rihanna song “Love on the Brain” and brought the judges to their feet. Luke said that she was born a star. Katy called Kay Kay incredibly talented; adding that tonight the total package has arrived. Lionel siad that Kay Kay had poise.

Brandon Diaz took a big chance by performing the Lionel Richie smash hit “Hello” and had Lionel saying wow. Katy and Lionel both called Brandon so brave. Lionel said that it was the first time he was nervous for Brandon; adding that he wanted Brandon to own it. Host Ryan Seacrest called Lionel to the stage to sing with Brandon…just a little bit. Lionel had trouble remembering the words. Luke and Katy were dancing together.

Next up is Gabby Barrett with the Maren Morris song “My Church” and brought the judges to their feet. Lionel said that he had never in his life had a person wait until the end of the song to blow him away. Lionel told her not to wait until the end but to show herself earlier in the song. Katy called the performance super cool; adding that she agreed with Lionel. Country star Luke Bryan was very happy.

In the final performance of the night Cade Foehner rocked the house with his version of the Jimi Hendrix song “All Along the Watchtower”.Cade was the only performer of the night who played an instrument while he sang. He brought the judges to their feet. Katy said he could preach to her anytime Cade wanted. Katy called him a star. Lionel noted that he was there when the first guy came around; adding that Cade was bringing it all. Luke had no words.
