Over the years, “American Idol” has seen a number of judges from titans in the music industry to “just a music fan” – Elen DeGeneres. Last season Katy Perry announced that she was leaving the show.
The show has named Perry’s replacement, and this time it goes to someone who “has been there” with season four winner and award winning Country music superstar Carrie Underwood..
Underwood is the first “Idol” alum to sit behind the judge’s table; where she joins fellow Country music star Luke Bryan and music legend Lional Richie.
In a video, Underwood said, “I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show, and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since.”
Her musical accomplishments include 25 CMT Music Awards – the most of any singer – eight Grammy Awards, and consistently sees her music top the charts. Along with season one winner Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood are the most successful winners on the singing competition series.
In an ABC release, president of Disney Television Group Craig Erwich said, “this upcoming season marks 20 years since Carrie won America’s hearts on ‘Idol’ and launched her successful multi-Grammy Award-winning career. As a former Idol and dynamic musical force, she brings a remarkably unique perspective to one of the most popular shows on television. This is a full-circle moment both for the show and audiences at home who have been tuning in for over two decades. Welcome home, Carrie.”
One of the busiest men in Hollywood, Ryan Seacrest is set to split his time between “Idol” and as the new host of the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune”.
