All during Hollywood Week on “American Idol” the singers have performed only for the judges, but on this final round the remaining 50 singers must perform live in front of an audience before the judges determine who will make up the top 24 singers to move on to the next round.
For this showcase round the judges were up in the balcony watching all of the action.
In this episode there were no full performances, only the final judgement was aired along with a few performance and audition clips.
First up was Layla Spring is the first singer to get the word…and she is the first person in the top 24.
Michael Woodard blew the judges away in his solo performance and earned his ticket to the top 24.
Despite a lovefest between Katy Perry and Trevor Holmes, Katy delivered the news that Trevor was not moving on to the next round.
Gabby Barrett is moving on to the next round despite Katy feeling that Gabby’s performance was lacking in the showcase.
In season nine Thaddeus Johnson was cut at this point in the show, this time around Thaddeus once again finds himself falling a little short and will not be moving on to the next round.
Michelle Sussett is moving on to the next round.
In a series of clips Dominique, Trevor McBane, Maddie Poppe, Ron Bultongez, and Alyssa Raghu all got the good new that they are in the top 24.
A scared Catie Turner was told that her showcase performance was shaky but she got the news that she is moving on to the next round.
In another series of clips Milo Sposato, Les Greene, Britney Holmes, and William Casanova all learned that they will not be moving on to the next round.
Jurnee’s military wife was able to make it to the showcase performance and then she learned that she is a part of the top 24.
Shannon O’Hara chose to sing a Katy Perry song in a stripped down acoustic performance for her showcase and brought Katy to tears. Calling her a secret spiritual ninja, Katy announced that Shannon is moving on to the top 24.
Kay Kay is also moving on to the top 24; along with Amelia Hammer Harris and Brandon Diaz.
Alpaca enthusiast Noah Davis chose a Lady Gaga song for his showcase but despite the judges falling in love with him, Noah is not moving on to the top 24. Katy invited Noah to come back next year.
In another series of clips Harper Grace, Carly Moffa, Samothias, Lee Vasi, and Victoria McQueen all learned that they will not be moving on to the next round.
After not making it in season 12, Adam returned as Ada Vox performed “Creep” for her showcase and brought the judges to their feet. Ada went to hear the judge’s verdict as Adam. Lionel noted that it took a lot of guts for Adam to do what he did; adding that he had taken them on a roller coaster ride. Lionel announced that the dynamic duo is now a part of the top 24.
Johnny Brenns didn’t tell his family about auditioning for the show but they were all there when he performed in the showcase.. Johnny is now a part of the top 24.
Mara Justine got mixed remarks from the judges. Lionel said that they didn’t have to ask who she was but Katy noted she is beginning to develop some bad habits. Despite the remarks Mara is going on to the next round.
Caleb Lee Hutchinson got the news he was hoping for, Luke Bryan telling him that he was moving on to the top 24.
Laine Hardy and Garrett Jacobs learned their results together. Garrett is moving on to the next round but Laine will not be a part of the top 24.
Rocker Cade Foehner got the news that he will get to keep rocking the stage as a part of the top 24.
And then there were four singers to learn their fate…
Effie Passero and Maddie Zahm were the last two females remaining with only one spot left. Effie is moving on to the top 24 but Maddie did not make it. Lionel told Maddie to come back.
The final two singers to learn their fates were fathers Dennis Lorenzo and Marcio Donaldson. The two men walked in to the room to hear the judge’s results. After teasing them that there was only one spot remaining, Katy announced that there were two spots and they were both moving on to the next round.
Next week it’s another solo round and for the first time in Idol history…all star duets before the final 14 are chosen.
