Living only a few blocks from the Niagara Falls State Park and its various attractions, sometimes I like to go and “play tourist”.
Just as the 2026 tourist season is winding down, the Niagara Falls State Park opens a new attraction ROAR Above the Falls – a virtual reality attraction.
While Luna Island, Prospect Point and Terrapin Point allow visitors to get very close to the Falls, and the Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist gives visitors some incredible…and wet…encounters; the new ROAR adventure gives visitors views not found anywhere in the park. ROAR goes, above, around, and under the falls.
Visitors wear a virtual reality unit that includes headphones with a narrator who talks about the Falls throughout the adventure. While the VR travels, the chair moves around to help simulate motion and a real feeling of actually going over the Falls like the dare devils used to do and go above the Falls like Nik Wallenda when he walked the tight rope.

At times you are so close to the water that you are sure that you are about to get we and want to pick your feet up.
You even go below the surface of the river for a brief time and get a glimpse of what liess beneath the churning water.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, ready to assist anyone who may feel any discomfort during the “ride”.
The ROAR VR experience is located downstairs in the Visitor’s Center; to the right of the elevators.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or in person (walk ups are welcome).
An adventure worth seeing!
