What’s the best way to explore a new city?

As a non-driver, I depend on public transportation or my bike if it’s close to get around.

A bus is an excellent way to see what a new city has to offer. Get an all-day pass and just go for a ride. Don’t fall asleep! 🙂 Most mass transit systems cover the major traffic areas of a city – schools, shopping, attractions, government offices, and so forth. Get a map and note where places are located.

No having to drive and watch traffic while trying to learn where places are located can be a very daunting endeavour. As the old Greyhound bus commercial said, “take the buss and leave the driving to us.”

Of course, there are people who think just going and getting lost is a good idea. Too stressful!

If you have a bike or like to walk, that is an excellent way to explore your neighbourhood. Finding out what is in your new area is essential to knowing how to navigate. Where is the closest grocery store? What eating establishments are close by? If you don’t have a washer and dryer, knowing where the laundry mat is located is important. Are there any entertainment venues near by?

If you have a companion to join you on your venture, exploring a new area can be fun…and entertaining!
