The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series kicks off a double header weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with the Focused Health 302.

Before some Saturday night racing the drivers take to the track on a hot Saturday afternoon for a practice session before making a qualifying run to set the field.

Thirty-six teams brought cars to Las Vegas for 38 starting spots – everyone will make the race.

The drivers have just one set of tires for the 50 minute practice session.

Jeb Burton is on pit road after reporting a loud boom while he was on the track.  The crew is working to diagnose the issue.  Reports are that the car backfired.

In a wide open desert area, dust and dirt on the track can affect how the cars handle.  Tire wear is also an issue at Las Vegas.

Parker Retzlaff spins out with a flat tire with part of the tire coming off and rolling down the track, but keeps it off the wall and limps his way to pit road.

Jeremy Clements tops the leaderboard in single and five lap times with Jesse Love topping the leaderboard in 10 and 15 lap times.

The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is Dawson Cram who posted a time of 32.619 seconds.

William Sawalich had a rear end leak issue and will not be making a qualifying run.

Blaine Perkins is the first driver to break the 31 second mark with a time of 30.848 seconds.

Brandon Jones is the first driver to break the 30 second mark with a time of 29.918 seconds.

With a time of 29.858 seconds, Corey Day puts his number 17 car on the pole with Sheldon Creed alongside on the front row.

Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 111 laps for a total of 201 laps around the 1.5 mile track.

Austin Hill and Justin Allgaier are the only drivers in the field that have won a race at Las Vegas.

Corey Day brings the field down for the green flag start of the race with Sheldon Creed alongside.  Drivers are getting three wide on the start.  Sheldon Creed edges out for the lead.

Lap two, the top five are Sheldon Creed, Corey Day, Rajah Caruth, Brandon Jones, and Brent Crews.

Lap three, Brent Crews passes Brandon Jones for fourth.

Lap seven, Sheldon Creed holds on to the lead with Corey Day on his bumper; Rajah Caruth, Sam Mayer, and Brent Crews round out the top five.

Lap 10, Corey Day passes Sheldon Creed for the lead; they have pulled out to a lead of a second and a half on third place driver Rajah Caruth.

Lap 13, Brent Crews and Jesse Love battle for fifth.

Lap 14, the drivers have spread out around the track, mostly in single file.

The 47 car of Dawson Cram has gone to the garage with a mechanical issue.

Lap 17, Rajah Caruth and Sheldon Creed battle for second.

Lap 18, Corey Day has a lead of nearly a second and a half on Sheldon Creed.

Lap 21, Rajah Caruth passes Sheldon Creed for second.

The top five are Corey Day, Rajah Caruth, Sam Mayer, Sheldon Creed, and Brent Crews.

Lap 23, after starting from the back of the field, William Sawalich has moved up 18 spots.

Lap 25, third place driver Sam Mayer is running the fastest laps in the race.

Mason Maggio has taken his car to the garage with mechanical issues.

Corey Day reports some radio issues.

Lap 29, Corey Day has pulled out to a lead of over two seconds on Rajah Caruth; Sam Mayer, Jesse Love, and Brandon Jones round out the top five.

With 12  laps remaining in stage one, leader Corey Day has pulled out to a three second lead and has begun lapping slower traffic.

Justin Allgaier has brushed the wall multiple times.

Ten to go, the top five are Corey Day, Sam Mayer, Rajah Caruth, Jesse Love, and Brandon Jones.

With six laps to go in stage one, Sheldon Creed has fallen out of the top 10 in 13th.

William Sawalich passes Sheldon Creed for 13th.

With a lead of nearly four seconds, Corey Day wins stage one.

William Sawalich had advanced through the field and was just outside the top 10 in eleventh.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Brandon Jones winning the race off of pit road in a four wide battle.

Brandon Jones brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two with Rajah Caruth alongside on lap 54.  Jones edges out in front as drivers gets three and four wide.

Sam Mayer takes the lead with the drivers three wide several rows deep.

The caution flag comes out on lap 55 when Brandon Jones has a vibration, gets loose and gets into Justin Allgaier.  The crew did not get all of the lug nuts tightened on Brandon Jones’ tires.  There is significant damage to Justin Allgaier’s car.

Brandon Jones and Justin Allgaier’s cars were taken to the garage on the wrecker.

Sam Mayer brings the field down for the green flag restart with Rajah Caruth alongside on lap 63.  Mayer takes the lead.  Rajah Caruth and Corey Day battle for second.

Lap 64, Rajah Caruth takes second and begins to challenge Sam Mayer for the lead.

Lap 65, the top five are Sam Mayer, Rajah Caruth, Corey Day, Carson Kvapil, and Taylor Gray.

Parker Retzlaff makes an unscheduled trip down pit road with a tire issue.

Brandon Jones is out of the race.

Lap 70, Sam Mayer has just a quarter of a second lead on Rajah Caruth; Corey Day, Carson Jvapil, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.

Quite on the radio, Sam Mayer said that the car was great!

Lap 76, in a battle of the Hendrickcars.com cars, Corey Day passes Rajah Caruth for second.

With eleven laps to go in stage two, Sam Mayer has pulled out to a lead of over a second on Corey Day; Rajah Caruth, Carson Kvapil, and Jeremy Clements round out the top five.

Sheldon Creed reports some handling issues with his car.

Just five laps remain in stage two, Corey Day has cut Sam Mayer’s lead to just half a second; Rajah Caruth, Carson Kvapil, and Jeremy Clements round out the top five.

The drivers come down pit road for service with William Sawalich edging out for the lead in a three way battle off of pit road.  Sam Mayer came out third.

Sam Mayer was charged with an uncontrolled tire that ended up on the other side of pit road.

Rajah Caruth was also charged with an uncontrolled tire.

Both drivers will have to restart the race from the back of the field.

With over 100 laps in stage three, the drivers will have to make a pit stop during the stage.  With 60 laps to go, the window opens to make a stop and make it to the end of the race.

Lap 101, 100 to go, Corey Day has a near half second lead on William Sawalich; Carson Kvapil, Jesse Love, and Jeremy Clements round out the top five.

Jeremy Clements and Jesse Love battle for fourth.

After a bad qualifying run, Sammy Smith has worked his way into the top 10.

Lap 108, Carson Kvapil passes William Sawalich for second.

Jeremy Clements has finally passes Jesse Love for fourth.

With 88 laps to go, COrey Day has a half second lead on Carson Kvapil; William Sawalich, Jeremy Clements, and Jesse Love round out the top five.

Lap 119, Justin Allgaier returns to the track 61 laps down but fails to make minimum speed and returns to the garage.

Sammy Smith reports a vibration.  The crew reports that all of the lug nuts are tight.

Lap 121, Corey Day has a one second lead on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, William Sawlich, and Jeremy Clements round out the top five.

Taylor Gray has worked his way back into the top 10 after having to serve a penalty at the end of stage two.

With 74 laps to go, Corey Day has a second and a half lead on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, William Sawalich, and Jesse Love round out the top five.

With 71 to go, William Sawalich and Jesse Love battle for fourth.

With 69 laps to go, Sam Mayer has worked his way back into the top 10 after serving a penalty for an uncontrolled tire.

With 65 laps to go, leader Corey Day is passing slower traffic.  There are just 21 cars on the lead lap.

Just 63 laps to go, leader Corey Day is over two seconds out in front of Carson Kvapil.

As the sun goes down, the track is gaining grip and the drivers are going faster.

Sixty to go, Corey Day continues to extend his lead and is now nearly three seconds out in front.

Sammy Smith is the first driver to make a green flag pit stop to begin the cycle.

With 57 laps to go, leader Corey Day makes his pit stop and gives the lead over to Anthony Alfredo.

Only Jeb Burton and Kyle Sieg have yet to make their green flag pit stops. 

With 52 laps to go, Corey Day retakes the lead with Carson Kvapil one second back in second; Brent Crews, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray round out the top five with just 16 cars on the lead lap.

Just 48 laps to go, Corey Day has a lead of over a second on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.

Forty-four laps to go, Corey Day has pulled out to a second and a half lead on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.

Just 35 laps remain in the race, Corey Day has pulled out to a two second lead on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray round out the top five with just 15 cars on the lead lap.  Sammy Smith is the last car on the lead lap.

Just 25 laps to go, Corey Day holds a lead of nearly two seconds on Carson Kvapil; Brent Crews, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray round out the top five.  Rajah Caruth has entered the top 10 after having to restart the race from the back of the field for an uncontrolled tire.  There are 15 cars on the lead lap.

Twenty to go!  Carson Kvapil has cut Corey Day’s lead to just half a second.

With 15 laps to go, Carson Kvapil has closed the gap on leader Corey Day un just a third of a second.

Fourteen to go, Carson Kvapil has caught leader Corey Day.

Eleven to go, the battle for the lead is on between Corey day and Carson Kvapil!

Nine to go, the battle for the lead continues…

Six to go,  Sheldon Creed is fighting to stay on the lead lap as the battle for the lead between Corey day and Carson Kvapil continues.

Three to go and the battle continues with Carson Kvapil taking to lead with just two laps remaining in the race.

Core Day comes up to battle side by side after Day scrapes the wall.

Corey Day edges out to beat Carson Kvapil and win the race!
