Ever wondered how a musician from the British Isles ended up with an American name like Elvis????
On October 2 fans will learn the answer with the release of “My Aim is True” – a five-CD box set – filled with 104 tracks (52 of previously unreleased material) of demos, masters, outtakes, live performances, interviews, and other rare recordings of the journey of how Declan MacManus became Elvis Costello.
The boxed set also includes a remastered edition of the album.
Originally a computer operator, the young MacManus wrote and recorded songs in his bedroom in hopes of creating music for others to record.
The collection also includes rare and previously unseen photos, hand written lyrics, diary entries, and lists of early songs he performed while working toward a publishing or record deal.
Costello opens the collection with “when first proposed, I thought the whole idea of celebrating a 50th Anniversary of ‘My Aim Is True’ was preposterous. It made my teeth itch. It couldn’t just be set up like a venerable object in a glass case.”
