“The Book of Mormon” returned to the stage at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on May 27 after a three week hiatus for repairsS from a fire. 

And the show’s creator Matt Stone was on hand to welcome theater goers back. Stone noted that it was the third time the show had an opening night – the original open, a return after the pandemic, and the return from the fire.  He also thanked all the people who, “worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to makde the theatre safe and sound.”  

Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal joined Stone on stage to issue a Proclamation to honour the FDNY firefighters who battled the three alarm fire and saved the Theatre.  He proclaimed May 27 as FDNY Appreciation Day.

FDNY Chief of Department John M. Esposito was on hand to accept the Proclamation.

“The Book of Moron” and Theatre owners ATG Entertainment have previously thanked everyone who was involved in putting out the fire and making the repairs to the Theatre.

The show is celebrating 15 years of Broadway this year and as a part of the annual Tony Awards ceremonies, member of the original cast will be a part of the show.
