While Washington, D.C. and The White House are busy taking away money from and demolishing Arts organizations; others are working hard to not only preserve but enhance the arts.
On May 11, the Lincoln Center broke ground for a new theatre in a performance filled extravaganza featuring poetry reading, music, and dance.
Thanks to a donation from The Baron Family Foundation of $75 million, the Lincoln Center is expanding with a new theatre that will make it possible to use the green spaces around the Center – the new Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Gardens -as an extension of the theatre which is being named after the donors – the Baron Theatre. The new theatre will have a 2,000 seat capacity with construction expected to be completed in 2028.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has made a $75 million grant to support community engagement initiatives, free programming throughout Summer for the City, and the ongoing Legacies of San Juan Hill initiative.
The new SNF Gardens will also feature The Len Tow Community Stage, a performance area within the groves where performances and family programming will be created by and for the community.
