When Jinkx Monsoon stepped into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in “Oh, Mary!” she sold out every single performance.
In January, Monsoon will return to the Cole Escola play to reprise the role.
Monsoon is set to appear in 30 performances running form January 8 to February 1.
Currently Jane Krakowski is playing the role of Mary and will end her stint on January 4. Understudy Hannah Solow will fill in on January 6 and 7.
Several of the cast members have signed on to extend their appearances in the show.
Monsoon spoke on the role in a statement saying, “I was plotting my return before my first run was half through. Normally I like more of a break before an encore, but this is one of those shows you can’t wait to come back to. Like the loving and familiar casts I had in my previous endeavors, this show is also the passion project and combined genius of some really great friends. Mary is a role that will live on in our theatre world. I have already met young, aspiring actors who call Mary their ‘Dream Role’ someday. There’s no chance I’m not coming back to this show as many times as makes sense!”
“Oh, Mary!” takes place in the weeks prior to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln when First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln “becomes a madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic”.
“Oh, Mary!” opened in 2024 at the Off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre. After three extensions, the play moved to Broadway and the Lyceum Theatre where it has been consistently breaking box office records. The show is the first show in the 121 year history of the Lyceum to earn $1 million in a single week.
