What would you change about modern society?
Every since Henry Ford created the first vehicle and proclaimed every car in the garage, Americans have had a love affair with the motorized vehicle.
Car salesmen are everywhere with lots filled with gas guzzling machines waiting to be plucked up with the rubber hitting the road.
As vehicle numbers have increased, public transportation availability has significantly decreased; depriving millions of access to transportation services.
Finally in the 70’s politicians began to understand the dangers of all those vehicles on the road and began to regulate emissions and the like to ensure the populous could breathe.
Now, car traffic has gotten considerably worse and even the offer of no emission electric vehicles cannot deter the onslaught of a new batch of pollutants.
The current administration is bent on eliminating all of the regulations that helped to curtail some of the worst of the air pollutants.
If I could change on thing, it would be to focus more on mass transit. To offer better public transportation to everyone.
The key to making a profit from mass transit is not eliminating service and alienating large groups of the population; but increasing the service and offering transportation to more people.
I live in a tourist town with very poor public transportation. Many of the Chinese, Indian, European, and Asian visitors that come to visit do not driver, they depend on the sufficient and practical mass transportation offered at home. With attractions scattered about the area; how do the officials expect to lure these tourists to spend more time in the area if there is not a viable mass transit service to carry them about the city and surrounding areas???
In large cities a proper mass transit system could go a long way in aiding traffic issues, air quality, and road maintenance.
Many years ago, Bill Cosby had a comedy routine about riding the subway in New York City that noted the ride was free, you were paying for the entertainment during the ride!
While I have missed out on some artistic and musical performances while on a bus or subway, a passenger did whip out her guitar and started some spontaneous singing on a transatlantic plane ride.
