What do you think gets better with age?
It may sound crazy but in some ways, music can get better with age.
Some Classical music has been around for four hundred years and is still sounding great today.
It’s really weird, music my brother listened to when we were young teens that I couldn’t stand to hear was just way too wild for me.
Now there is some of it that I actually like…maybe just a few songs from some of the groups, but I like it just the same.
Every generation has a musical style of its own that their parents cannot stand.
Big band gave way to rock-a-billy that became rock; then there was the British invasion, R&B, and Folk. Then came Disco and suddenly the music charts were bursting out all over the place with new musical styles and genres.
But it all boils down to the same 12 notes…just re-arranged in different patterns.
When it comes to writing music, it isn’t how you do it, but what you do with it. There are 12 notes to choose from and of course, some of them don’t sound good together; while others sound very good together. But it is still just the same 12 notes. A pattern of notes that sound very pleasing from one artist can sound very dissonant and displeasing from another.
But in the end, some music most definitely does get better with age.
