The saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover” but for musicians, the album cover is everything. It can be quite literally the difference between a number one chart topper and a flop.
The Recording Academy has added a new category for Best Album Cover.
The Best Recording Package and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package categories are being combined to for the Best Recording Package.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr spoke on the changes saying, “the Academy’s top priority is to represent the music people that we serve each year. That entails listening carefully to our members to make sure our rules and guidelines reflect today’s music and allow us to accurately recognize as many deserving creators as possible. As we kick off another exciting Grammy Season, we look forward to celebrating the amazing power of music and its ability to bring so many people together.”
He added, “each year during our Awards and Nominations review, our focus is on refining our rules, uncovering anything that is no longer working, and ensuring we are celebrating our creative community in the most meaningful way. I’m thrilled that many of this year’s changes … allow us to honor even more creators. That’s always a positive outcome for me. But even more importantly, these are much-needed updates that ensure those who are making significant contributions to the musical process are properly recognized and have the opportunity to be celebrated on Music’s Biggest Night.“
In the wake of Beyonce winning the Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards; the category has been split into two categories – Best Traditional Country Album and Best Contemporary Country Album.
