There are many events in the world today that make it clear history is a forgotten subject in schools.
The expression, “those who forget history are doomed to repeat it” has never been more appropriate than it does now.
But there is a major event in history that has sparked superstitions and fears for nearly 700 years…but does anyone truly know the story behind the date of
FRIDAY the 13th???
It all began back in 1118 when the Knights Templar was established to help protect pilgrims heading to Jerusalem during The Crusades.
While the details of their exploits other than protecting pilgrims is unclear; but has been the subject of books and films for centuries.
But, somehow the Templars amassed a great deal of wealth. It was the Knights Templar who establish the first banking system; allowing people travel safely through Europe and into what today is known as the Middle East.
By the beginning of the 14th century, the Templars had built numerous castles, churches, and banks; drawing the attention of less scrupulous rulers…and the Pope.
With the help of King Philip IV of France, Pope Clement devised a plan to rid the known world of all the Knights Templar at the same time. In order to launch such a devastating plan, the Templars had to be shown more unscrupulous as those planning their demise.
Letters were sent depicting the Knights Templar as heretics, warlocks (witches), and haters of Jesus and Christianity…all lies… but presented with the artful deceit of a modern day politician.
The plan went off like clockwork and nearly destroyed the Templars.
The date…October 13, 1307…a Friday!
And the superstition was born.
The number 13 is forever seen as one that is unlucky…especially if it lands on a Friday.
The number 13 is nowhere to be found in the state of New York – Building floors go from 12 to 14; street addresses skip the number 13.
