Recently the hit television series “Saturday Night Live” celebrated 50 years of comedy, satires, and music.
In May, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will open a special exhibit: “SNL: Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of Music”.
The immersive exhibit will feature state-of-the-art video installations, a virtual experience, and some of the most memorable musical performances from the show including Blondie, RUN-D.M.C., Mick Jagger, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and Sabrina Carpenter.
Over the years, SNL has featured musical performances by over 100 members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
SNL fans will recognize the format of the exhibit as it follows that of the show itself including the “cold open”, a base stage, and even a re-creation of the famed Studio 8H facade in Rockefeller Center. Fans will even have an opportunity to create their very own SNL moment as the host of the show.
Along with the music, the exhibit will feature costumes from some of those performances including The Blues Brothers, D–k in a Box, and the Sweeney Sisters.
And as fans exit the exhibit via the “Goodnights” section, they will be amazed by a display of 50 years of SNL musical performances.
Visitors will have more opportunities to interact with the exhibit and take home some memorabilia of their own via select bumper formats and a custom built SNL50 photo booth!
As a part of the exhibit, the Foster Theater will run an exclusive 20-minute documentary of “Ladies & Gentleman… 50 Years of SNL Music” directed by Questlove that will include never-before-seen footage of musical performances. The film plays hourly.
The ”50 Years of SNL” exhibit includes the very first digital companion and offers narration in Englis and Spanish; as well as, options for people with auditory, visual, and sensory issues.
And while at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, check out exhibits for the “2024 Inductees”, “Revolutionary Women in Music”, “Bon Jove: Forever”, and “1984”.
