The Latin Recording Academy is making some big changes to the Latin Grammys for 2025 in November.
Bringing the total to 60 categories, the Latin Recording Academy has added two new categories to the list of Latin Grammy Awards with the Best Music for Visual Media and a Best Roots Song categories.
Changes have also been made to the Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Latin Children’s Album categories. They will now be called the Best Contemporary Pop Album and the Best Children’s Album.
Music in the Best Music for Visual Media include film, television, and video games soundtracks and must either include Latin rhythms or be composed by a person of Ibero American descent.
The new Best Roots Song is a songwriter’s award and goes to songs that “reflect the traditions and roots of various communities, cultures, or social groups, especially those of Hispanic American origin, whether in Spanish, Portuguese or Indigenous languages or dialects.”
The Best Urban or Urban Fusion Performance category has been changed to allow remixes but only if they are released in the same year of eligibility as the original. The release must include at minimum of 60 percent of urban elements.
The Latin Recording Academy has altered the criteria for nominations in the Songwriter of the Year Award from six songs down to four songs.
In a change to the Best Long Form Music Video category, must have a minimum of 12 minutes of performance time (not including credits unless they contribute to the creative process).
While no changes were made to the Producer of the Year category, rebranding it as a craft, the winner will now be selected by a specialized committee and the membership at large.
