As the old expression goes, “no good deed goes unpunished”.
Defending his quarterback, Jacksonville Jaguars Evan Engram joined several of his teammate when made a late hit on Houston Texans Azeez Al-Shaair after Al-Shaair made a violent tackle on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The NFL has fined Engram $11,255 for his actions.
Lawrence was in the process of sliding – a move that is designed to protect quarterbacks from violent hits – when Al-Shaair made a particularly violent hit on Lawrence that resulted in the quarterback having to be carted off the field and is now out with a concussion for the remainder of the season.
In other penalty news…
Chicago Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson has been fined $19,697 after he tripped Detroit Lions’ wide receiver Jameson Williams as Williams was heading out of bounds. Williams then threw the ball in Stevenson’s face for which Williams received a penalty flag.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ George Pickens was fined $10,231 for two separate infractions during the game with the Cincinnati Bengals. Pickens was charged with taunting in the first quarter and making a violent gesture toward a Bengal in the third quarter.
