Recently Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Taylor Gray would be joining JGR next season to drive the number 54 car.
On Monday, JGR announced another driver in the Xfinity Series. Now 18, William Sawalich can participate in all of the races and will be moving up from the ARCA Series and occasional Craftsman Truck Series races to the Xfinity Series to drive the number 18 car.
Sawalich has made 13 starts in the Truck Series and earned three top 10’s; plus the pole position at Talladega Superspeedway.
Sawalich spoke on driving with JGR via a team release saying, “I am honored to be driving the number 18 full-time in the Xfinity Series next year. It has been really cool to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing, and I feel like I have developed so much as a driver over the past two years. I still have a lot to learn, especially with moving to a new series, so I am looking forward to taking this next step in racing.”
executive vice president of Xfinity Series and development at JGR Steve de Souza spoke on Sawalich via team release saying, “we are thrilled to announce William’s promotion to the next stage of his racing career with us. His outstanding record of victories and development over the past two years shows he’s ready for the Xfinity Series. We’re confident he’ll remain a strong contender for wins as he takes on this new challenge in 2025.”
Sheldon Creed currently drives the number 18 car and holds the NASCAR record for the most number two finishes without a win. Next season Creed will move over to the Haas Factory Team; along with Sam Mayer.
