Niagara Falls State Park was created in 1885 and is the oldest state park in the United States; but the Maid of the Mist boat ride is even older. The first Maid of the Mist boat was launched in 1856. There have been many boats since those early days and four years ago the newest boats of the historic fleet arrived in Niagara Falls – an electric boat! No longer do visitors have to listen to loud diesel engines and inhale noxious fumes. The ride is quiet and allows visitors to enjoy the sounds of the American, Bridal Veil, and Horseshoe Falls.
The Maid of the Mist takes visitors to within several feet of The Falls for a full experience that includes getting sprayed by the water coming over the falls .
The water visitors see when coming to Niagara Falls has already traveled thousands of mile through four of the five Great Lakes and is on its way to the fifth lake before working its way to the Atlantic Ocean.
