The Xfinity and Cup Series launched the round of eight this past weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and a playoff driver won in both races!
The playoffs standings got a bit of a shakeup when half of the round of eight drivers had issues during the race from pit road penalties and slow stops to day ending crashes.
Ryan Blaney’s weekend got off to a bad start when he crashed during laps one of practice and had to go to a backup car. He moved through the field in a timely manner only to get caught up in a crash. Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick were involved in the same wreck and sent Reddick flipping down the track before ending his day. Chase Elliott finished the race but was many laps down when the checkered flag waved.
However, one playoff driver came out on top…one that almost didn’t make the playoffs! Joey Logano held off Christopher Bell to win the race and secure a spot in the championship four at Phoenix. The two time cup Series champion also won the race at Las Vegas both time he won the championship.
Despite not winning the race, Christopher Bell sits at the top of the point standings.
