The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be a memorable one for a number of reasons. Simone Biles has cemented her status as a GOAT, several countries saw their athletes win medals for the very first time, and there has been a great deal of controversy in the boxing ring.
And now a major disqualification has occurred. Vinesh Phogat is the first woman from India to make it to the finals in wrestling at the Olympic games. However, after earning a spot in the gold medal match, she has been disqualified for being overweight…by a “few grams”.
When it comes to the athletes winning the various medals, 80 countries have now earned medals at the games with just a few days remaining. The United States not only holds on to the lead in total medals and in the gold medal count; they are well on their way to reaching 100, just six shy of the century mark. And 14 countries now have earned more than 10 medals.
