Over the past couple of weeks NASCAR fans have been voting for the Most Memorable Playoff Moment over the past 10 years – the playoff era.
And it is no surprise that the winning moment is one that will never be seen again! Ross Chastain and his “Hail Melon” move at Martinsville to make it into the final four in 2022.
NASCAR has since banned the move that saw Chastain hit the wall in turn three and ride the wall to the finish line; passing a few drivers in the process including Denny Hamlin to make it in the final four. In the process Chastain set a new track record. Chastain was in 10th place when he hit the wall to make his move and finished the race in fifth.
The “Hail Melon” went up against the clash between Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth in 2015 in the final round. The “Hail Melon” earned 68% of the vote.
