The 2024 Grammy Awards was dominated by female artists.  On February 12, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released the list of nominees for the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  One third of the 15 finalists are women.

This year’s list features artists from both sides of the Atlantic; covering all manner of pop R&B, Hip-Hop, and rock.

Already a member of the Hall of Fame with Black Sabbath; Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne is among the nominees in his first nomination as a solo artist; as are Mary J Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B and Rakim, the Dave Matthews Band, and Jane’s Addiction.  Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, and Sade are all being nominated for the first time.

Speaking on the nominees Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman Joh Skyes said, “continuing in the true spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

If Sade gets inducted it will be her second Hall of Fame induction in two years after becoming a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame last year.

Artists become eligible for the Rock Hall 25 years after the release of their first release.  The over 1,000 artists and industry  professionals selects the new inductees; but the fans can also have their say and cast a vote for their favourites.  The fan votes are tabulated and count as one vote in the final vote.  Fans may cast their votes at vote.rockhall.com.
