After months of delay due to the strikes in Hollywood, the Prime Time Emmy Awards celebrates 75 years of television.

Host Anthony Anderson opens the show by emulating Mister Rogers by walking into the room and changing his jacket.  Sitting at the piano, Anderson and was joined by a choir to perform the  theme from “Good Times”.  Then came the theme from the “Facts of Life”. 

After changing to a white jacket, it was “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins and often heard on “Miami Vice” with Travis Barker on the drums.

Anderson announces that instead of the play off music to urge winners off the stage, his mama would be the playoff “music”.

Making her television debut at the age of one, Christina Applegate presented the first award of the night for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series to Ayo Edebiri for her role in “The Bear”.

Applegate introduced seven time Emmy winner Carol Burnett.  Burnett broke television ground by being the first female to host a comedy variety series. 

Burnett presented the award for Leading Actress in a Comedy Series to Qunita Brunson for her role in “Abbott Elementary”.

Sitting in a mock therapists office, Anthony Anderson remembers The Sopranos.

The award for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series went to Jennifer Coolidge for her role in “The White Lotus”.

The award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series went to Matthew MacFadyen for his role in “Succession”. 

The award for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series went to Ebon Moss-Bachrach for his role in “The Bear”.

Cast members from “Martin” reunite and present the award for Leading Actor in a Comedy Series to Jeremy Allen White for his role in “The Bear”.

The award for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series went to “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver.

The award Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie went to Niecy Nash-Betts for her role in “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”.  Niecy thanked herself for doing what “they” said she couldn’t do.  She dedicated the show to every black and brown woman.

Cast members from the 28 time winning sit-com “Cheers” re-united at “the bar” made famous by the show.  They presented the award for Outstanding Direction in a Comedy Series to Christopher Storer for “The Bear”.

The award for Outstanding Reality Competition Series to “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. 

Arsenio Hall takes the stage and noted that he wanted to be Johnny Carson growing up.  He went on to host his own talk show.  He presented the award for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series to “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver.  This is their eighth win in this category.

Cast members of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” presented the award for Outstanding Talk Series to “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah. 

The award for Outstanding Direction in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie went to Lee Sung Jin for “BEEF”.

In a mock medical set, cast members from “Grey’s Anatomy” reunited and it about to begin its 20th season.  They presented the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie to Paul Walter Hauser for “Black Bird”.  This was his first nomination and win.

Jon Hamm presented the award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series to Jesse Armstrong for “Succession”.  This is his fourth win for the show which has just concluded its run.

The award for Outstanding Writing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie went to Lee Sung Jin for “BEEF”.

The award for Outstanding Direction in a Drama Series went to Mark Myllod for “Succession”.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler re-enact their role as news anchors and present the award for Outstanding Live Variety Special to “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium”.  The award makes Sir Elton a member of the EGOT family for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.

In a black and white television, Anderson speaks of “Twilight Zone” and “American Horror Story”.  Amid a replica set of “American Horror Story” the award for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie went to Steven Yeun fo “BEEF”.

The award for Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Made for TV Movie went to Ali Wong for “BEEF”.

The award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series went to “BEEF”.

A small montage of the most 75 impactful moments in the history of television was aired.

This year’s Governor’s Award went to GLAAD – an organization that works to ensure fair representation of members of the LGBTQ+ community.

On the set of the show the two surviving members of “All in the Family” – Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers spoke on Norman Lear and his genius and introduce the In Memoriam segment of the show.  Charlie Puth and War and Treaty provide the music as the photos of those who have died over the past year are shown.

Cast members of “Ally McBeal” reunite in “the bathroom”; then present the award for Lead Actor in a Drama Series to Kieran Culkin for “Succession”.

Jodie Foster presented the award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series to Sarah Snook for “Succession”.

Natasha Leon and Tracy Ellis Ross re-imagined the chocolate factory scene from “I Love Lucy” before presenting the award for Best Comedy Series to “The Bear”.

Peter Dinklage from “Game of Thrones” presented the final award of the night for Outstanding Drama Series to “Succession” in its final year and takes home six Emmys tonight.

The show ended with a clip from Martin Luter King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
