“The Rocket Man” returns to NASCAR!
Ryan Newman saw his full time racing career come to an end after a horrific race in Daytona that had fans shocked when he walked out of the hospital holding the hands of his daughters just two days later.
Earlier this season Rick Ware Racing driver Cody Ware was suspended from NASCAR after an arrest. Since that suspension, RWR has been filling the spot with a variety of drivers. RWR has hired Ryan Newman to some of that driving for them throughout the remainder of the season.
Ryan Newman spoke on his return to racing saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Rick Ware Racing and Ford. I think this will be good for all of us with our combined experience and knowledge. Being part of the Throwback Weekend at one of my favorite tracks in Darlington is pretty special. After recently being named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, it carries even some significance.”
Speaking on Ryan Newman, Rick Ware said, “I remember watching ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ on ESPN and seeing Ryan compete against some stout competition in those days. I became a fan then and when he first came to NASCAR, I knew he was going to be a great driver and win a lot of races. He brings great depth and insight to RWR while we continue to grow our team. Ryan’s been a great ambassador for our sport and Ford. We’re really looking forward to racing with him this season.”
In celebration of its 75th anniversary, NASCAR has been naming some of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history; Newman is one of those drivers. In 725 race starts he has won 18 races and 51 poles; along with 268 top 10’s; 117 of which were in the top five.
