Among its many collections, exhibits, and interactive stations The Strong houses the World Video Game Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame has just announced the newest class of video games that will be added to the collection – Computer Space, Barbie Fashion Designer, The Last of Us, and Wii Sports; beating out Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, FIFA International Soccer, Goldeneye 007, NBA 2K, Quake and Wizardry for the honour.

With the newest class of inductees, the World Video Game Hall of Fame now features 40 arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile games that have gone beyond the game to influence popular culture around the world and for generations to come.

In 1971, Computer Space became the first ever commercial available video game and ushered in the era of coin operated arcade machines.

Barbie Fashion Designer was the first video game marketed to girls. The game let girls design and print their own costumes for Barbie and her friends.  Selling 500,000 copies in its first two months of release in 1996, it also sparked discussion over gender stereotypes.

Capitalizing on the zombie craze, The Last of Us features a post-apocalyptic zombie storyline.  The game has since spawned a television spin-off.

Wii Sports launched a multi-generational interest in video games with its home video games that allowed fans to play their favourite sports inside using motion based technology.  Since launching, Wii Sports has sold over 82 million copies.

The Strong will be closed from June 19-29 as the museum moves into its expanded space in preparation for a June 30 grand re-opening.
