For Jake Ybarra “Something in the Water” is more than just the title of his debut album. The South Carolina artist hails from a musical family with guitar playing brothers, a trumpet playing father, and a Classically trained pianist mother…there is definitely “Something in the Water” at the Ybarra home.
Set for an April 7 release, Ybarra channels the church music he performed as a child and musical idols Guy Clark, John Prine, James McMurtry, and Townes Van Zandt in his first full length album. Ybarra has some heavy Nashville hitters in his corner on “Something in the Water” with producer William Gawley, engineer Bryce Roberts, David Flint on guitar and mandolin, Dow Tomlin on base, Dane Bryant on keyboards, and Billy Thomas on drums. All of the songs on the album were written by Jake Ybarra.
“Late November” and “A Whole Lot to Remember” are available to stream and watch the video. “BloodFire” will be released as the first radio single later this month.
Despite a house full of musicians, Jake Ybarra had his eyes set on being a baseball star; but an injury at age 15 led him on a different path. Born in Texas, raised in South Carolina; Ybarra now makes his home in Nashville.
