The field of drivers looking to make a run in the Daytona 500 has gotten a bit bigger.

The Floyd Mayweather owned team, The Money Team is hoping to field a team for the Daytona 500 with Conor Daly behind the wheel.

The Money Team is one of the new NASCAR teams to form in the past few years.  TMT Racing made its debut in the 2022 season with Kaz Grala driving the road course races.

Daly is an IndyCar driver who made his NASCAR debut last year at The Roval.  He has also run in three Craftsman Truck Series races and an Xfinity Series race.

Saying that he was excited, Daly noted, “it all started after the ROVAL last year. Everyone at TMT Racing, they were obviously interested in doing the Daytona 500.”

Daly continued relaying the conversation that ensued saying, “there’s going to be a lot of cars trying to qualifying. Do we want to take the risk at doing that or focus on the other races that we have?  We’re going to do a few other races. They have a car ready to go. The good side of making the race is very high.”

He noted that, “I never thought I’d have the chance to do the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500, in the same year.”

NASCAR rules state that a maximum of 40 Cup Series cars may run in any race.  Currently 36 of the cars set to compete in the Daytona 500 are chartered cars and guaranteed a spot in the 500; that leaves only four spots for non-charter cars.   With less than two weeks until the “Great American Race” a total of 42 cars are currently looking for a spot in the race.
