It’s a hot Tennessee Saturday afternoon when the Xfinity Series takes to the track at Nashville Superspeedway for the Tennessee Lottery 250.
Forty-one teams have brought cars to the track to fill 38 starting spots; meaning three cars will not make the race.
Qualifying is a one lap, one round session.
BJ McLeod is sitting in for David Starr this weekend; Starr is battling the flu.
Matt Mills is the first driver on the track to make a qualifying run and gets loose sending his car into the wall. After his crash, NASCAR and track officials paused qualifying while they cleaned up the track.
The next driver on the track is 19 year old Parker Retzlaff who posts a time of 31.223 seconds.
During practice on Friday, Tyler Reddick broke the transmission in his car. After the crew replaced the transmission, Reddick will have to start the race from the back of the field.
Several of the drivers got “wrecking loose” during their qualifying run and barely missed wrecking the cars. Drivers are reporting that the track is “slick and loose”.
After all 41 drivers have made their qualifying run, with a time of 30.562 seconds Riley Herbst puts his number 98 car on the pole with AJ Allmendinger starting alongside on the front row. This is his second career pole.
Matt Mills, Brennan Poole, and Mason Massey all failed to make the race.

After a rainstorm, the track is dry and the rain is gone; the cars are coming out on to pit road.
Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 98 laps for a total of 188 laps around the 1.33 mile concrete track.
Riley Herbst brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the inside lane. Herbst and AJ Allmendinger go side by side in a battle for the lead. Drivers are three wide back in the field.
Lap two, AJ Allmendinger takes the lead with Riley Herbst in second; Trevor Bayne, Austin Hill, and Jeb Burton round out the top five.
Lap four, AJ Allmendinger has a lead of over half a second on Riley Herbst; Trevor Bayne, Austin Hill, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five. JJ Yeley makes an unscheduled trip down pit road.
Lap seven, AJ Allmendinger has a one second lead on Riley Herbst; Trevor Bayne is in third.
Lap nine, AJ Allmendinger has a near one second lead on Riley Herbst; Trevor Bayne, Justin Allgaier, and Austin Hill round out the top five. JJ Yeley is still on pit road.
Lap eleven, Justin Allgaier passes Trevor Bayne for third. AJ Allmendinger continues to lead the race.
Lap 12, Josh Berry’s crew has a radio issue and cannot communicate with him. There is an open channel somewhere.
Lap 17, AJ Allmendinger has led every lap so far but Justin Allgaier is closing the gap quickly; Riley Herbst, Trevor Bayne, and Austin Hill rounds out the top five.
Lap 19, Justin Allgaier has caught leader AJ Allmendinger and is battling for the lead.
Lap 20, new leader, Justin Allgaier passes AJ Allmendinger for the lead.
Lap 22, Justin Allgaier has increased his lead to a second on AJ Allmendinger; Riley Herbst, Trevor Bayne, and Austin Hill round out the top five.
Lap 25, Justin Allgaier now has a lead of over a second and a half on AJ Allmendinger with Riley Herbst on his bumper; Trevor Bayne and Austin Hill round out the top five.
Lap 27, continuing to pull away, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over two seconds on AJ Allmendinger.
Josh Berry’s radio issue has gotten worse and all Berry hears in his ear is static.
JJ Yeley is off the track.
Lap 30, Noah Gragson is having some handling issues with his car and has fallen out of the top 10.
Lap 35, Justin Allgaier has left the field behind with a lead of over four seconds on AJ Allmendinger and Riley Herbst battling for second; Austin Hill and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.
With an air temperature of 96 degrees, the track temperature is 125 degrees. Temps inside the cars are also over 100 degrees.
Lap 39, driving it like he stole it, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over five and a half seconds on AJ Allmendinger; Trevor Bayne, Riley Herbst, and Austin Hill round out the top five.
JJ Yeley has returned to the track 29 laps down; there are 28 cars on the lead lap.
Lap 40, Trevor Bayne and Riley Herbst have gotten around AJ Allmendinger.
JR Motorsports has won the last 10 stages on oval tracks; if leader Justin Allgaier holds on to the end of the stage, he will make it eleven stage wins in a row.
Two laps remain in stage one, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over five seconds on Trevor Bayne.

Drivers come down pit road for service. Despite a lead of over six seconds, Justin Allgaier is asking for a few adjustments to his car. Justin Allgaier wins the race off of pit road with team mate Josh Berry coming out second. Berry’s radio issues appear to have worked themselves out.
Sheldon Creed, Landon Cassill, Daniel Hemric, AJ Allmendinger, and Kyle Sieg were all caught speeding on pit road.
Jeb Burton was charged with equipment interference.
Riley Herbst hit the tire carrier for Trevor Bayne’s crew, the guys said that he is ok and good to go.
Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 53 and holds on to the lead.
Lap 54, Justin Allgaier has the lead with Ty Gibbs in second; Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, and Josh Berry round out the top five. The fourth member of JR Motorsports is also in the top 10 at ninth place for Noah Gragson.
Lap 59, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a lead of over half a second on Ty Gibbs; Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, and Austin Hill round out the top five.
Lap 65, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over a second on Ty Gibbs; Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, and Austin Hill round out the top five.
Trevor Bayne, Austin Hill, Josh Berry, and Noah Gragson are all in a close battle for position.
Lap 72, Justin Allgaier has a lead of nearly a second and a half on Ty Gibbs; Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.
Lap 76, after restarting the race in 25th from a speeding penalty, AJ Allmendinger has moved up to eleventh place. He reports that it is so hot in the car that his foot is burning. He is looking for some ice to cool it off.
Lap 77, Sam May passes Riley Herbst for third; Justin Allgaier has a lead of over a second on Ty Gibbs.
NBC/USA reports that inside of Noah Gragson’s car the temperature is 135 degrees.
Lap 84, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over a second and a half on Ty Gibbs as he continues to dominate the race.
There are 27 cars on the lead lap with all 38 cars still on the track.
With 100 laps remaining in the race, Justin Allgaier has pulled out to a two second lead on Ty Gibbs; Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.
Summertime in the south means hot temperatures; Nashville Superspeedway has free towels and water stations where fans can freely fill their own containers.
Justin Allgaier wins stage two for the stage sweep and the 12th straight oval stage win for JR Motorsports. All four of JRM’s cars are in the top 10.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Ty Gibbs just edging out Justin Allgaier to win the race off of pit road.
Teenager Sam Mayer is reporting some overheating issues inside the car. He will celebrate his 19th birthday tomorrow.
Anthony Alfredo and Sam Mayer were caught speeding on pit road.
It has been a very clean race so far with no caution flags for on track incidents.
Ty Gibbs brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three on lap 97 from the inside lane. Drivers are three and four wide back in the pack with Ty Gibbs and Justin Allgaier going side by side in a battle for the lead. Justin Allgaier takes the lead.
Lap 98, the top five are Justin Allgaier, Ty Gibbs, Austin Hill, Trevor Bayne, and Brandon Jones.
Ty Gibbs comes back to battle with Justin Allgaier for the lead; this time Gibbs edges out to take the lead but he is not pulling away from Allgaier.
Lap 100, Ty Gibbs has a tenth of a second lead on Justin Allgaier, but Allgaier comes back and retakes the lead; Trevor Bayne, Brandon Jones, and Austin Hill round out the top five.
Back in the top 10, AJ Allmendinger battles with Austin Hill for fifth. Allmendinger takes fifth and is on the bumper of Brandon Jones for fourth.
Lap 104, Justin Allgaier has a half second lead on Ty Gibbs.
With a stage of 98 laps, the drivers cannot complete the race on a single load of fuel and will have to make a pit stop at one point.
Josh Berry spins out and brings out the first caution flag for an on track incident on lap 105. Ryan Preece also got a bit of damage after making contact with Berry during the spin.

The teams were given a total of five sets of tires for the entire weekend. They have one more set of sticker tires in the pits.
Justin Allgaier brings the field down for the green flag restart from the inside lane on lap 110 with Ty Gibbs on the outside lane. Justin Allgaier jumps out in front for the lead.

Lap 112, Justin Allgaier has a half second lead on Trevor Bayne.
After reporting that it is so hot that he can’t think straight, Sam Mayer’s crew gave him two ice packs and two bottles of water during his last pit stop.
There are 26 cars on the lead lap with all 38 cars on the track.
Lap 116, Justin Allgaier has a one second lead on Trevor Bayne.
Jeffrey Earnhardt has a slow spin to bring out the caution flag on lap 117. The drivers are now withing their pit window to make it to the end of the race on fuel.
Some of the drivers come down pit road including the leaders. Taking fuel only, Ryan Ellis and Anthony Alfredo wins the race off of pit road.
Ryan Preece was charged with crew members over the wall too soon and Trevor Bayne were charged with equipment interference violations during the pit stop.
AJ Allmendinger, Brandon Jones, Noah Gragson, Daniel Hemric, Landon Cassill, Tyler Reddick, and Ryan Sieg all stayed out on the track.
AJ Allmendinger and Brandon Jones bring the field down for the green flag restart on lap 123 with AJ Allmendinger taking the lead. After making a pit stop, Justin Allgaier is in eleventh place.
The fifth caution flag of the race comes out for a crash on lap 124. Sheldon Creed, Jeb Burton, and Joe Graf Jr were all involved. Creed’s car is resting up against the outside wall with the driver’s side against the wall. The drivers were three and four wide at the time of the incident.
Sheldon Creed is trying to get his car moving again after a push off the wall. NASCAR rules state that officials cannot “help” a driver back to pit road. Creed gets the car going again and brings it back to pit road.
AJ Allmendinger brings the field down for the green flag restart with 58 laps remaining in the race. After going side by side with Brandon Jones, AJ Allmendigner takes the lead.
Lap 131, the top five are AJ Allmendinger, Brandon Jones, Noah Gragson, Daniel Hemric, and Ty Gibbs. Justin Allgaier is in sixth place.
With 25 cars on the lead lap, there are four cars out of the race.
Myatt Snider is slowed on the track with a flat tire but makes it to pit road and the track stays green.
Lap 134, Brandon Jones and AJ Allmendinger battle for the lead with Jones takes the spot briefly before Allmendinger retakes the lead.
Lap 138, AJ Allmendinger leads the race with Brandon Jones on his bumper; Noah Gragson, Justin Allgaier, and Ty Gibbs round out the top five.
Lap 143, AJ Allmendinger has a lead of just under half a second on Brandon Jones; Justin Allgaier, Noah Gragson, and Ty Gibbs round out the top five.
Lap 146, Justin Allgaier passes Brandon Jones for second.
Ty Gibbs gets loose but saves the car thanks to bumping Sam Mayer and the track stays green. There is a bit of damage to both cars.
Lap 148, Justin Allgaier has caught up to leader AJ Allmendinger and is beginning to challenge for the lead.
Lap 150, Justin Allgaier passes AJ Allmendinger for the lead and begins to pull away.
With 37 laps remaining in the race, Justin Allgaier has a lead of over a second on AJ Allmendinger; Brandon Jones, Noah Gragson, and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.
Lap 156, Justin Allgaier has a three second lead on AJ Allmendinger who is in a battle for second with Brandon Jones; Noah Gragson and Trevor Bayne round out the top five.
With 28 laps to go, drivers are looking to make their moves; Justin Allgaier has a lead of over four seconds on Trevor Bayne; Noah Gragson, Brandon Jones, and Riley Herbst round out the top five.
Noah Gragson is looking to make it a JRM battle for the lead and is now in second place behind Justin Allgaier.

There are just 13 cars on the lead lap.
Ten to go, with 12 cars on the lead lap, Justin Allgaier has a four second lead on Trevor Bayne; Riley Herbst, Ty Gibbs, and Sam Mayer round out the top five.
Seven to go, Justin Allgaier has increased his lead to nearly four and a half seconds on Trevor Bayne; third place driver Riley Herbst is over seven seconds back.
Four to go, Justin Allgaier continues to dominate the race.
With just 12 drivers on the lead lap, Justin Allgaier takes the white flag.
With a lead of over four seconds, Justin Allgaier gets win number two in the 2022 season. Winners of the race at Nashville win a guitar from Gibson.
Allgaier noted that it was hot in the car but added that it was hotter in the stands and thanked the fans for sticking around.
Some of the drivers have been taken to the infield care center; while others are being attended outside their cars. AJ Allmendinger is sitting on the track and dumping ice on his feet.
