Seven time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has retired from NASCAR and moved to IndyCar racing.

Last year Johnson ran only a partial schedule where he ran only in the road course races.

This year he is running the full schedule which included the Indianapolis 500 in May.

After making a good showing in events leading up to the race, Johnson was among the favourites; and he even led a lap during a cycle of green flag pit stops.  But a late race crash sent Johnson and his number 48 car to the garage.

Despite not finishing theo race on the track, Johnson was selected as the Rookie of the Race; him a $50,000 bonus.

However, not all of Johnson’s fellow competitors were pleased with the decision including David Malukas and Kyle Kirkwood; both of whom felt that they should have been given the award and took to social media to express their thoughts on the subject.
