After creating the award winning musical “Copacabana” based on the song by the same name, Bruce Sussman and Tony Award winning entertainer Barry Manilow wrote “Harmony” based on a group of humorists from the 1930’s during the Nazi occupation.
While the musical has been seen in a few locations, it is finally making it Broadway debut this spring at the Edmond J. Safra Hall at the Museum of Jewish Heritage–A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will presenting the musical with shows scheduled to begin April 13 and run through May 8.
Tony Award winning director Warren Carlyle is choreographing and directing the production. Broadway veterans Sierra Boggess and Chip Zien will star in the musical. Sean Bell, Danny Kornfeld, Eric Peters, Blake Roman, Steven Telsey, Jessie Davidson, Ana Hoffman, and Kenny Morris are also set to appear in the production.
The Comedian Harmonists took Germany…and the world…by storm during the 1920’s with their harmonies and stage antics; but when a Jewish singer joined the group, everything began to change.
