The Blind Audition continue of “The Voice” with a two hour Tuesday show. During the premiere of season 21 on Monday night, Kelly and Blake both used their only block to help them get singers they wanted on their teams.
Night two opens with Lana Scott singing country music. When Blake pushed his button for Lana, he fulfilled a prediction by her grandmother that a Lana would be on the show. Kelly Joined Blake in turning her chair. Blake said “THAT was country.” Thanking Lana for coming to the show, Blake loved her tone and personality. Kelly tries to convince Lana that she is a big country music fan. John and Ariana get up and leave for a snack while Blake and Kelly argue back and forth. After returning to their chairs, John and Ariana cast their votes for Kelly. Lana chose Blake to be her coach.
Ariana said that she feels like her and John are parents on a trip with their children fighting over toys.
Indiana native Samuel Harness calls being on “The Voice” is a dream come true. One of five adopted children, Samuel comes from a musical family – his dad and uncle are in a bluegrass band. Putting his own spin on the 3 Doors Down song “Here Without You”, Samuel impressed John enough to turn his chair. After a bit of a wait, Blake and Ariana also pushed their buttons. Ariana called the performance incredible; adding that she loved the whole journey. John noted that the vibrato and rasp was signature to Samuel; adding that he would love to work with Samuel. Kelly said that she loves Samuel’s voice. Blake said that voices like Samuel’s are rare. Noting that he is the reigning champ, Blake said that it would be nice to do it again. Saying that they are all amazing artists, Samuel chose John to be his coach.
Carolina Alonso was born in Mexico but now calls Reno, Nevada home. In college, she performs weekends with her dad. She performed her blind audition in Spanish. Kelly was the only coach to turn her chair. John noted that she has the perfect coach. Kelly said that she was obsessed with Carolina’s voice.
Chavon Rodgers comes from a musical family and impressed John with his performance of “Driver’s License” enough to turn his chair. Ariana joined John near the end of the song. Chavon brought a brick from his hometown of Ada, Oklahoma. Ariana said that she loved the journey of the performance and his interpretation. John loved that Chavon made the song his own. Chavon chose Ariana to be his coach.
Serenity Arce is just 14 years old and a dancer. The Jupiter, Florida cites Ariana as an idol of hers. Serenity failed to turn any chairs. Blake noted that it was probably a good thing no one turned for Serentiy; adding that she needed a little more time. Blake told her to come back or go and get her own record deal.
It took a while before any chairs turned for Joshua Vicanti, but John was the first and used his block in the process. Near the end Ariana turned her chair to find out that she was the once who got blocked. Kelly said that Joshua has insane range. John said that Joshua has a powerful voice.
Hailey Green returns, but this time she is 15 years old and the only female linebacker to play football and performing with her band. This time Hailey chose “Home” for her audition. Blake pushed his button at the very last moment. John said that Hailey has a powerful voice. Ariana said that Hailey’s voice is amazing; adding that she regrets not turning her chair. Blake said that he is excited to work with Hailey.
Jim and Sasha Allen are a father/son duo. Armed with a mandolin and guitar, the duo performed their version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. It took a white but Kelly finally pushed her button and at the very end Ariana joined her. Sasha presented Blake with a drawing of the duo with Blake. Kelly loved the duo; adding that there was no way she was going to let them go home. Ariana noted that the harmonies were perfect; adding that she would have liked to hear more range. John loves the idea of a family singing together. Jim and Sasha chose Ariana to be their coach.
This marks the first time that more than one group has moved on past the blind auditions.
Singing “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, Paris Winningham got John to turn his chair and get up dancing. Ariana also turned her chair. As a member of the US Navy, Paris has seen the world and lent his singing skills to Navy events. A knee injury ended his naval career but has helped to launch his musical career. Ariana said that Pairs has so much soul. John said that Pairs lit the stage one fire and gave a performance beyond great. Saying that he screwed up by not pushing his button, Blake called the performance incredible. Paris chose John to be his coach.
Camryn B failed to turn any chairs with her audition. John apologized for not having any good news for them. Camryn noted that she has been at tapings. Kelly wanted to hear more Camryn and less Adele in her performance. Ariana told Camryn to come back.
In the final audition of the night, Gymani comes from a musical family; her mother performed in a band. Gymani is singing one of Ariana Grande’s songs for her audition. Gymani didn’t have to wait long before Blake and Ariana pushed their buttons; John joined them shortly thereafter. Kelly made it the only four chair turn of the night. Ariana called the performance phenomenal; adding that she loved the changes. Ariana was honoured that Gymani sang one of her songs. John said that Gymani truly made the song her own and executed it flawlessly. Kelly said that she was in a battle with herself but had to turn her chair. Kelly noted that she has no one on her team like Gymani. Kelly said that Gymani’s voice is why the show is there. Gymani chose Kelly to be her coach.
