For over 50 years the long bearded trio known as ZZ Top performed together presenting their unique form of southern rock. It is rare for a band to include the same members with no changes or loses for that long of a time.

On July 28, 2021, ZZ Top lost their bass player Dusty Hill died in his sleep at his Houston, Texas home. Hill was 72.

Currently on tour with ZZ Top, Hill recently missed a show due to what band members called “a hip issue”.

Hill, Billy Gibbons, and Frank Beard formed ZZ Top in 1969. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rockers went on to earn five multi-platinum albums, one of which has earned diamond status for selling at least 10 million copies in the United States.

He was born Joe Michael Hill on May 19, 1949 in Dallas, Texas.

Known for his bass playing, Hill began his musical journey on a cello. He also plays the keyboards and saxophone.

Before becoming a part of ZZ Top, Hill; along with brother Rocky, played in a number of bands including the Warlocks, Cellar Dwellers, and American Blues.

Hill is survived by his wife Charleen.
