After spending the 2020 racing season in the NASCAR Cup Series, John Hunter Nemechek returns to the Camping World Truck Series for a full time ride with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Nemechek will be driving the number four truck for Busch; taking over the driving duties from Canadian driver Raphael Lessard.  Lessard’s future in NASCAR is not known at this time.

Nemechek spent the 2020 season – his rookie Cup Series season – driving the number 38 car for Front Row Motorsports.  But on November 16, Nemechek announced to the team that he would not be returning to the car for the 2021 season.

Noting that the decision was not easy, Nemechek spoke on returning to the Truck Series saying, “it definitely was a tougher decision, for sure, trying to weigh out the pros and cons of each one of them.  But when it comes down to it, I’m a competitive guy. I want to show up to the race track every single weekend and have a shot to win.  Definitely, I learned a lot and gained a lot of knowledge. … I’m looking forward to kind of coming back, even though it is somewhat taking a step back, but at the same time you have to look at the positives. We’re here to win races.”

Nemechek added, “honestly, if I mess up, I hope Kyle holds me accountable.  I hope that Kyle tells me how it is, straight to my face. I like that. I like when somebody tells me that I’ve messed up, so that I go back and fix it. As far as him busting on us or anything like that, I’m not super-afraid of that. I want to learn. I want to be better. If you can learn one thing every single day, you can be better that day and the following.”

While he had three top 10 finishes during the 2020 Cup Series season, Nemechek had not yet won any races.  However, he is a six time winner in the Truck Series.  Nemechek also has one win in the Xfinity Series as a part time driver for Chip Ganassi.
