As expected, the two Xfinity Series teams that failed post race inspection after the Lakes Region 200 at New Hampshire Speedway on July 21 have been charged with penalties.
The Joe Gibbs Racing number 18 car driven by Ryan Preece and the Chip Ganassi Racing number 42 car driven by John Hunter Nemechek were both found to have failed the height measurements. As a result of the infractions the number 18 car’s crew chief Eric Phillips and the number 42 crew chief Mike Shiplett were fined $10,000 and have been suspended for the next Xfinity Series race. In addition, team owners Joe Gibbs and Chip Ganassi were each docked 10 car owner points; as were the drivers.
The Hendrick Motorsports number 24 car driven by rookie William Byron was charged with a safety violation for not having all 20 of the lug nuts on the car secured properly after the Monster Energy Cup Series Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 race on July 22. As a result of the infraction, crew chief Darian Grubb was fined $10,000.
The Xfinity Series Jimmy Means Racing number 52 car driven by David Starr was found to have an improperly secured lug nut after the race and crew chief Timothy Brown has been fined $5,000.
