Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gene Simmons is best known as a member of the hard rock band KISS. But he is also an author who has recently penned a book on “The 27 Club” – musicians who died when they were 27 years old.
“27: The Legend and Mythology of the 27 Club” is Simmons latest authorial release and chronicles the artists who died often at the height of their careers and the methos that surrounds them.
It began in 1938 with Blues guitarist Robert Johnson; then in 1969 Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix all died at age 27. Most recently British artist Amy Winehouse died in 2011, again at age 27.
