Well…
I’m not sure I can pick just one…
There are a couple of musicians who top that list; Daryl Hall and Barry Manilow.
I know, I know; they are very different when it comes to musical genres but when it comes to the music and songwriting, they are very much alike.
I have been a fan of Barry Manilow since I was a young teen when my cousin introduced me to “Mandy”. He had recorded the song on a tape recorder from the radio – way old school!
I have seen Barry Manilow live four times and he is always entertaining.
When it comes to songwriting and arranging, he has key changes (modulations) in every song. He was asked about it one time and he said that it keeps things interesting.
And that is where the similarities between Barry Manilow and Daryl Hall comes in; Baryl also uses key changes frequently in his songwriting. Often times he modulates multiple times in a single song.
Daryl has some very creative ways about him when he writes a song. There are musical passages in the background that once heard, you cannot let them go.
On his “Live from Daryl’s House” shows (I’m obsessed), spontaneity is a part of the performances. And he isn’t afraid to experiment which can create some very interesting pieces.
A new obsession, I have never seen Daryl Hall perform live, but would love to.
If I had the chance to meet and chat with Daryl or Barry it would have to be about the music! The conversation would definitely be a lesson in music theory and creativity. I could spend hours talking with either or both of them!
The third figure in the photo is astro-physicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I met Carl Sagan many years ago but we never had to opportunity to chat.
I recently read one of Tyson’s books; it was about if aliens came to Earth. It was funny, entertaining, and interesting. It would be fun to talk to him more about that book.
He referenced “Star Trek” a couple of times and I recognized the episodes, but the one thing he never mentioned was the alien that is a main character on the show – Mr. Spock. I wonder why????
I noticed the caption on the AI generated photo, obviously Neil DeGrasse Tyson is not a musician; he’s an astro-physicist. But, I do love the photo!

You have me listening to Barry Manilow again!
I’ve been a “FANILOW” for decades! LOVE HIM!!!
We went to see Barry manilow in Manchester a few years ago- my boyfriend thought I was nuts getting the tickets but my late mum used to love him and I said he is one of the classic performers . The night before we went to see Eric Clapton who was booorring and Barry was amazing ! Even the boyfriend was waving his glow stick !!
