NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne retired from full time driving in 2018 citing health issues.

Nine years later, Kahne is making a return to the sport as a full time driver for Spire Motorsports in the newly named FedEx Freight Truck Series beginning next season.

Previously, Kahne has made six starts in the Truck Series; winning five of those races, and coming in second in the sixth race.

In 2023, NASCAR celebrated its 75th anniversary and named the 75 Greatest Drivers.  Eighteen time race winner Kasey Kahne was on that list.

After a seven year absence, Kahne made a return last year in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driving the number 33 car for Richard Childress Racing at Rockingham Speedway where Kahne finished 14th after being involved in a crash early in the race.

After the Rockingham race, Kahne was asked if he would consider running more NASCAR races.  He responded, “I don’t know about more in the future, but I’m really glad I did this.”

While not racing full time in NASCAR; Kasey Kahne has not been away from racing; he has been racing sprint cars and dirt-racing.

Kahne is also a six time World of Outlaws champion owner.

In 2025, Kahne noted that his health was “in a good place because I don’t do this all the time. I don’t do the long races, the heat.”  While Truck Series races are longer than the Sprint Cars and dirt track races; they are considerably shorter than the Cup Series races Kahne drove before his retirement.

Kasey Kahne will join the roster of full time points earning drivers when the 2027 season begins at Daytona International Speedway in February.
