The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series takes to the track on a hot Friday afternoon for practice and qualifying for a race under the lights in the Food City 300.
Thirty-nine teams have brought cars to Bristol for 38 starting spots.
The teams have 50 minutes of practice before making a qualifying run to set the field for the race.
Sheldon Creed has taken over the points lead with Justin Allgaier in second; three points back after dominating the regular season.
Nick Sanchez’ number 87 car is trailing smoke, reporting something broke. NASCAR has paused practice to clean up the track.
NASCAR has told the teams that is they want to take a set of tires from their race allotment to make a mock qualifying run, they may do so; but it will leave them one set down on sticker tires for the race.
Brandon Jones tops the single lap leaderboard with a time of 15.943 seconds around the half mile track.
The first driver on the track to make a qualifying run is ARCA Series driver Landon S. Huffman who posted a time of 16.337 seconds around the half mile track.
NASCAR has halted qualifying after only four drivers for lightning in the area. If lightning strikes within an eight mile radius of the track, all activities are paused. The radar must be clear of any lightning for a 30 period in order for track activities to resume.
NASCAR has cancelled qualifying due to lightning strikes. The lineup will be set by the NASCAR metric.
