The annual Super Bowl Halftime Shows have become at least as popular as the game itself and have become as divisive as the games. 

For Super Bowl LX, award winning Puerto Rican music star Bad Bunny put on a show exclusively in Spanish.  Featuring daily life in the island nation, the show included an actual wedding and guest performances by Lady Gaga and fellow Puerto Rican Ricky Martin.

The show made history for being the first Halftime show with no English and then set another historic record when it won seven awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend!  The Halftime Show starring Kendrick Lamar in 2022 earned three Emmy Awards.

The Super Bowl Halftime Show also set a record for Emmy Award nominations with nine.

From the moment Bad Bunny was announced as the Halftime Show performer, fans began to protest.  NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that every year there are complaints saying, “we’re confident it’s going to be a great show.”

Goodell added, “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. And I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is responsible for selecting the Halftime entertainment for the Super Bowl.  Jay-Z spoke on why they chose Bad Bunny for Super Bowl LX saying, “what Benito (Bad Bunny’s real name) has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”

Bad Bunny spoke on performing the Halftime Show saying, “what I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
