If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

I had to think hard on this one…

None of the characters in the books I like to read really seemed to fit the bill. And as much as I like “Star Trek”, it just didn’t seem like Mr.. Spock would be a good dinner partner.

So, it came down to two characters from TV shows I like; both of which were short lived shows.

Do I pick the vampire….who really doesn’t want to be a vampire…not the greatest choice for having dinner.

Then there is a man named John Amsterdam…for now…who unfortunately got caught up in the writer’s strike and only lasted about eight or 10 episodes.

Born Johann Vendersee in 1607 in Amsterdam, the young warrior came to the New World and what became known as New Amsterdam (today it is known as New York” and while caught in a battle was stabbed in the heart. A Shaman from the local Native tribe saved him and told him that he would not die until he met “the one”.

Many lifetimes, jobs, and families later, he goes by the name of John Amsterdam and is a New York City detective.

Not your normal immortal, John is filled with information about the past history of the city and is more than willing to share it. Funny the other characters in the show don’t catch on.

Always willing to listen to stories and learn the “real history” of places; I think that dinner with John Amsterdam would be a very interesting venture. Maybe we could even go on a carriage ride and hear all kinds of stories about the city.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series, short as it was, and would love to be able to stream it or buy the video (none exits). “New Amsterdam” is just one of a few shows I really like that have immortals as the main character and they all include scenes from the immortal’s past in every episode.

Dr. Henry Morgan from “Forever” (another short lived show – just one season) would also be a very interesting character.

The vampire… Nick Knight (born Nicholas de Brabone) in “Forever Knight”. He was “turned in 1228 but after 800 years, he doesn’t want to be a vampire any longer.
