Ok, I’m not quite sure this exactly qualifies for a misunderstanding; but then again, knowing my family it could easily be seen as one.
My dad’s side of the family has a rather “off beat” sense of humour. One liners and a play on words is par for the course. With my dad around, you definitely have to watch what you are saying.
My cousin (my dad’s nephew) has a glass eye. No big deal in itself but anybody who knows someone with an artificial eye can attest to the pranks that often get played involving those eyes!
NEVER tell someone with an artificial eye to keep an “EYE” on anything…you will return to find the eye on whatever you told them to keep an “eye” on.
But back to my cousin…
I was visiting my cousin and as was par for the course, we were out late mucking around.
About midnight, give or take, we decided that food was in order…enter Denny’s restaurant.
There we are; me, my cousin, and some other folks – I don’t remember who all of them were (been a while) but I’m sure some were also from the family clan – sitting in Denny’s talking, laughing, and waiting for food.
Not thinking – because if I had been, I probably would not have asked my cousin this question – I ask my cousin if he can take out his artificial eye – not that I really wanted to see him do it.
Gleefully he answers me, “Yeah, you wanna’ see it?”
Me, shaking my head, “NO”; especially not in the middle of a restaurant!
Can you imagine the responses if people around us saw this going on??? I don’t think they would have been amused.
I was just curious whether or not an artificial eye was like other prosthetics and could be easily removed; relatively speaking that is.
Watching Dr. Stephen Franklin put an artificial eye in G’Kar on an episode of “Babylon 5” was close enough.
