When NASCAR returned after the Covid pandemic, they began to consolidate race weekends even further; eliminating practice for many of the tracks.
Recently there has been a clamour for full practice session to return; especially with all the new and young drivers entering the Cup Series.
Beginning with the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, NASCAR will have a full 50 minute practice session with all cars on the track and will continue through the remainder of the season.
The only exceptions are tracks that have been designated as a super speedway and tracks where NASCAR has designated the track an extended practice session facility.
NASCAR will be providing an extra set of tires for the 50 minute practice sessions.
The impound procedures established by NASCAR will remain in place; which means crews are very limited in the changes they may make to the cars.
Previously, in the Cup Series, the drivers were divided into two groups and had only 20 minutes of practice time.
The new practice rules will allow crews a better chance to monitor and diagnose tire wear and degradation.
The NASCAR rulebook will be updated to reflect the new change.
