Last week was the first full week after the Tony Awards for the 38 shows running on Broadway. And while two more shows had their final performances, others were packing the house.
Last week the Tony Award winning play “Death of a Salesman” held only seven performances – instead of the normal eight – and still brought in nearly $2 million!
“Chess” had its final performance on Sunday but brought in its biggest week of its entire Broadway run to land in the top five of the Million Dollar Club.
“The Balusters” and “Celebrity Autobiography” also closed on June 21.
Award winning musicals “Schmigadoon!” and “Ragtime” also saw some significant increases at the box office.
Overall, Broadway saw a small increase at the box office across the 38 shows with a draw of $38,949,543 from 307,921 theatre fans.
A total of 17 shows made it into the Million Dollar Club last week with “Hamilton” the only show to make it into the $2 Million Club.
