In the final week before the annual presentation of the Tony Awards, Broadway brought in $38 million from the 40 shows currently running.
“The Book of Mormon” is back in business after the fire, Harry Potter’s original Draco Malfoy has returned from holiday, and theatre fans were clamouring to see what made the new shows worth Tony Award nomination nods.
Tom Felton is proving to be a powerful wizard indeed; his return to “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” brought in an additional $500,000 at the box office!
The big question looming over Broadway in the week following the Tony Awards is whether winning Best Musical, Best Revival of a Musical, and Best Play will parlay into a boost at the box office for “Schmigadoon!”, “Ragtime”, and “Liberation”?
Just 15 of the 40 shows running made it into the Million Dollar Club this week with “Hamilton” topping the list at $2.1 million.
