Heavy.com/nascar is reporting that Cup Series driver Kyle Busch has been hospitalized for an undisclosed illness and will not be participating in any of the Coca-Cola 600 activities this weekend.
According to a social media post, “has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”
If true, this will mark the first time that Busch will miss a race since he broke his leg in a crash at Daytona in 2015.
Richard Childress Racing has announced that RCR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Austin Hill will take over the driving duties of the number eight car in Busch’s absence.
Richard Childress racing issued a statement saying, “Kyle Busch’s health is our upmost priority and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His number eight Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the number eight Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.”
Recently during a race, Busch came over the radio requesting medical assistance from a doctor but apparently had no trouble over the past weekend when he won the Craftsman Truck Series race last weekend.
Once Busch returns to his number eight car, RCR will have to apply for a waiver in order to continue competing for the playoffs.
NASCAR.com has no reports of any issues with Kyle Busch.
