As more and more networks diversify their programming off the traditional network channels and on to streaming platforms that require paid subscriptions, the NFL continues to focus a large majority of its games on network television.
Throughout the 18 week regular NFL season, the 32 teams play a total of 272 total games combined.
While Netflix – a paid subscription streaming service – announced that they would be carrying some games this season, just 22 of the games will air with a streaming service as the primary carrier. Another 14 games will be on cable channels; but the remainder of the games – 236 – are being broadcast via ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC.
While in a recent interview the White House claimed NFL fans are being forced to pay $1,000 per game; the truth of the matter is that an avid fan who wants to see all 272 games may end up paying nearly $1,000 for the NFL Sunday Ticket package and the necessary streaming services.
As the NFL works to expand their international footprint, a total of nine games are being played around the world this season in Australia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico.
