Sir Paul McCartney first appeared on the Billboard chart in 1964 with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” after the Mop Topped rockers led the British Invasion in America.

Sir Paul has a new album – “The Boys of Dungeon Lane” – due out May 29.

Ahead of the album release he has released the first single “Days We Left Behind”.  The song debuted at number 22 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart.

Sir Paul’s last appearance on the Adult Contemporary chart was back in 2018 when his song “Come On to Me” made it into the top 10.  It was his 19th top 10 hit as a solo artist.  Those hits include collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and as a part of Wings.

Sir Paul and his Beatle bandmates first appeared on the Adult Contemporary chart in the 1960’s.  They reached the number one spot with “Let it Be”.

“Days We Left Behind” is also charting on the Adult Alternative Radio chart.  And it debuted at number seven on the Rock Digital Songs chart.

Sir Paul spoke on the new album via statement saying, “this is very much a memory song for me. The album title, ‘The Boys of Dungeon Lane’, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind, and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past, but then I think, ‘How can you write about anything else?”

He continued, “it’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool.  It involves a bit in the middle about John [Lennon] and Forthlin Road, which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke, which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all, but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”

At 83, Sir Paul joins Barry Manilow as octogenarians releasing new music in the coming months.
