The Julie Andrews Lifetime Achievement Award “recognizes individuals whose work has made a lasting impact on the performing arts, celebrating artistry, innovation, and a commitment to the future of theatre”.
At the Bay Street Theater and Sag Harbor Center for the Arts gala this summer the Center will present the award to “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Miranda is an Academy Award short of adding his name to the list of EGOT winners. He also has a Pulitzer Prize for his accomplishments as a songwriter, actor, director, and producer. Along with his creation of “Hamilton”, Miranda has created “In the Heights” and “All In: Comedy About Love”.
Artistic Director Scott Schwartz spoke on the Theater and Miranda via a statement saying, “for 35 years, Bay Street Theater has been a place where artists and audiences come together to experience the power of live storytelling. Honoring Lin-Manuel Miranda reflects that mission in action. His work has redefined what musical theatre can be, and his commitment to expanding access and opportunity in the arts resonates deeply with our own values.”
The gala event includes a VIP dinner, cocktail reception at the Bay Street Theater, performances, tributes, and a live auction. Proceeds from the event go to support the not-for-profit Theater and its programs.
