After the hostile takeover of the Kennedy Center by the White House administration last year, the board and officers were all replaced by loyalists to the administration including president Richard Grenell.
On March 13, Grenell has announced that he will be stepping down as president of the Kennedy Center.
Confirmed by a person who is “familiar with the plans”; the announcement will become official and public as a part of the board meeting at the White House on March 16.
Currently Matt Floca is the vice president of facilities operations and is expected to take over as president of the Center.
Grenell has given no reason for the departure or his future plans.
This summer, the Kennedy Center is scheduled to close for two years for some major renovations. Grenell played a major role in pushing for an overhaul of the iconic venue.
Since the takeover, numerous artists and organizations have cancelled performances and severed ties with the Kennedy Center.
